    I've been lucky with EBay and have a 99% success rate. I always look at the images, the seller rating is important as well as past customer comments. I also look at what else is out there to make an informed decision. But this is obviously not what was described in the listing. While this was a good meaty section of Uncanny X-Men you made the right decision in sending them back. The seller's packaging of the books tells alot about their attitude concerning their business practices. Investing more unto pressing was not in my opinion worth the added expenses you would have incurred. Thank you for sharing this unfortunate experience. It does not change my opinion in buying from eBay sellers. The vast majority are good, honest people.

      Thanks for the comments. I agree with everything you have to say. Outside of this purchase, my other Ebay purchases have been extremely positive and I plan to buy comics on Ebay in the future. I agree, most sellers are honest, good people.
      Pictures are key. Unfortunately, I gave the seller the benefit of the doubt on the pictures because there were so many books. But, I won't make that mistake again.
      Yeah, the packaging, or lack there of was absolutely egregious. Honestly, how much more damage was done to the books on the way to me?? Jeez.
      Good luck on your future purchase. I hope you get some great comics! :)

    $700 for those is pretty steep with the condition. They were newstands and could have been cleaned up with a press, but subscription creases are hard to completely remove in a best case scenario.

      Yeah, it was just going to be more hassle time and money wise, if I wanted to get them into better condition, than it was probably worth. It's ok, I will just go the long route in finding these issues.

    THANKFULLY Ive never had a problem with a book on my end of the purchase. If the seller only showed the front cover i would always message them to see if they could take a photo of the back, and all of them did! Packaging was never a problem as well, i only buy single issues anyway.

    Yeah, I have from my childhood a lot of those from my childhood,10yrs old and under. I bought a new era hat packed better than that it had fragile on the box too. They're great titles, those books will cost more unless you really search long and hard

      Yeah, they are great books. Unfortunately, the listing was too good to be true. It's ok, I am fine with paying more for better condition books, especially for these older, lower issue number books. And, I am ok with working on collecting them over time, it's part of the fun, right? :)

    I once had to return a Batman in the 130 or 140's. Seller did not except returns on sale listing. Once the book came I couldn't quite tell if staples were replaced or original, but the cover was glued on. Feel I got lucky they took it back.

    • @MinnesotaComicGeek-if2vn
      @MinnesotaComicGeek-if2vn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh yeah, that's rough. I feel like with the older books there is much more chance that the listing images and descriptions aren't going to match closely. There is more room for "creative" listings to try and get someone to buy the book. Glad you were able to return the book.

    I have never bought comics on ebay, but am in the process of bagging and boarding my collection with the intention of selling them on ebay or mercari in the near future. To pay $700 for what you show is outrageous. I would have packed them much better. I would have notified you of all dings and tears before making a deal with you. Sorry you went thru such a bad experience.

    You made the right decision. buying books individually is the way to go. Buying books in bulk is never a good plan. It will take a little longer to build your collection but, in the end, you'll be much happier with your overall collection. This is what I've done, and I have been able to pick books in really good condition.

      For the most part I totally agree with you. :). I took a chance on this purchase in the hopes that I could knock off a large chunk of the Uncanny run I needed. It didn't work out. It's ok, I was able to get a refund and will just go about the slow process of hunting down these issues. The main problem is that comic shops generally don't have a lot of the lower number issues available. So, buying those one at a time on Ebay will get to be a little expensive. :)

    I'd focus on the claremont bryne issues and worry about 144 and up later. Those are relatively easily to find and cheap to find in high grade. Newsstands shouldn't have much of a premium to directs because they had higher print runs until the mid to late. 80s. A lot of them were not circulated either. Guess it just goes to personal preference

    • @MinnesotaComicGeek-if2vn

When they got to me they were all together in one bag with no board and the bag they were in spelled like cat piss and was yellowing like it had been around smoke. Somehow the comics were fine, so I kept them and never bought from that seller again.

      That's too bad that you are dealing with the similar situation. The intentional or unintentional misrepresenting the condition of the books is unfortunate because it just ends up wasting time and money on the seller's side since Ebay allows for full refunds. • @MinnesotaComicGeek-if2vn

      I agree on all of these points. It is much easier to do on a single issue purchase when they can have multiple pictures of the book. Unfortunately, with such a large lot, the pictures were taken a bit deceptively to hide all of the damage on the books. And the description wasn't accurate to their condition. I took a chance because I really would like to get all of these books and would have been an excellent price for these specific books.

      It's perfectly ok to sell "bad" condition comics as you describe. Just make sure to be very clear in your description about their condition. And, make sure to include LOTS of pictures that clearly show all potential "condition issues." That way you protect yourself and the buyer is able to make a very informed decision.
      The issue with my Uncanny X-Men purchase was that the seller boldly and clearly labeled all of these comics as HIGH GRADE books. As you can see in the video, they are definitely NOT high grade. If these exact books were described as mid or low grade and the lot was for $200ish, I would have been more than happy to buy them, but not for $700.

    • @MinnesotaComicGeek-if2vn
      @MinnesotaComicGeek-if2vn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, they were mostly newsstand copies which was a cool bonus to the listing. If they were in even slightly better condition, I would have been fine with the $700 price tag. Oh well.

      @piratecapn4real 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MinnesotaComicGeek-if2vn you had a lot of books there that would potentially value close to 700 though I agree that does seem a little bit high for the condition but it's a shame you send them back I would have probably kept them and got them pressed

    • @MinnesotaComicGeek-if2vn
      @MinnesotaComicGeek-if2vn  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, if they had been in better condition then the $700 price tag would have been a good value for all of them. I didn't want to go through the process of trying to get them pressed as I have never done that before, so I don't know how much more money that would have added to the total. The lower number issues would have been worth it to press, but I couldn't just keep those specific issues.

    Hi. I saw your video about the damage on the X-Men. Sorry about that. I bought X-Men 135-200 when they came out. I bought 2 copies-one to read and one for my pc. The pc copies I bought only best I could find, then I boarded them in Mylar. 144-200 I’ve stored and kept in an acid free box in my closet. The others I had graded. They were not pressed or cleaned but got grades of either cgc 9.8 or 9.6. I had decided to keep them all, but now at the age of 76 I’m thinking of reducing my pc. I might be interested in trading them for a single graded key if you’re open to it.

    • @MinnesotaComicGeek-if2vn

      That's really awesome that you were able to buy and collect all of those awesome X-men issues when they came out and actually bough 2 copies. What a great long term investment considering the grades you got on all of them.
      I would love to be able to buy all of these issues, but I definitely can't afford to do so in graded form. You will be able to sell them for a good premium in their graded form. You definitely have a wonderful treasure on your hands! Good luck reducing your PC.

    I feel like you are being too picky. Ebay is not a store. It is just random people selling stuff. It is like going to a garage sale. If you are going to be super into condition then ebay is probably not for you

      This particular seller was not a random person selling. They were a professional comic shop enterprise with 10's of thousands of sales. That is why I expected more from them.
      Random "garage sale" type of sellers that I have bought comics from have been a far superior level.
      You can get excellent condition comics on ebay. I know, because I have gotten a lot of great condition comics on ebay. It requires that the seller is operating in good faith, providing an accurate description and providing plenty of quality photos for the buyer to gauge the accurate condition of the comics.
