Myst was my childhood, even if I was born after the original came out. My father used to play Myst with me all the time- one of my favorite ones was End Of Ages, I think.
its absolutely amazing, not as "fun" for me as a lot of games, but you'll keep coming back to it and you'll always remember it. all the games are very different, like uru is nothing like the myst series, but both are amazing. the scenery and graphics are incredible, and the "puzzles" are great.
Great compilation of clips. This was a series that really brought the player deep into the beautiful void. Such vast and fantastic worlds. I wish I could relive my first experiences in these games and recover the awe of them. Returning now, anyway, they are wonderfully familiar and yet still mysterious.
especially in the earlier versions.. it's the kinda of game that you really need to be into to enjoy.. b/c it's very subtle, yet extremely intriguing to those of us who read into it.. literally.
i remember watching my dad play this back in the 90s on the old family PC and being completely fascinated by the sense of mystery and isolation that surrounds this little world.
I've played up to part way through Myst IV. From what I've played, 1 had the greatest mystique, 2 had the best design and story, 3 had the funnest puzzles, and 4 the best visuals. Of course, If I played them all again, I might easily come to a different conclusion. The funnest puzzle has got to be the hollow glassish/icish ball on rails in 3, particularly when you've got it all done.
While as a child my mother played myst, I was too young to apreciate it. I was almost scared of these massive, empty worlds. It wasn't till when I was older, when I tried Myst III, that I fell in love with the series.
A gorgeous tribute to what is the one of the most beautiful game series I've ever played. It's amazing seeing how far it's come since Myst, and it's a fitting tribute to the end of the story. Thank you for making this!
it's a very intelectual game about puzzles. and the different worlds are called "Ages" and you teleport to them through these books, which you touch a picture inside of. The game is "Visually stunning" and from experience of playing almost every one including Myst Online: Uru i must say, that Myst is the most Beautiful game series i've ever played :) The puzzles can be very, very difficult though. i had to use a walkthrough on certain parts.
i grew up with the first 3 myst games. the first and third are my faves so far. i have the soundtrack for EXILE, and it is beautiful. this was a great video!
Very nice tribute. I was working at PC Mag. in the early nineties when Myst fell on my desk. (Proper metaphor, indeed.) I was completely blown away and spent many a late night sitting in the dark of my office wandering those strange and fantastic worlds. There was nothing like it. What fun. When are we going to get something new Cyan?
Brilliant video, well done! I absolutley LOVE the Myst games although I've only played the first and fifth ones >.< But now that I've bought all 5 in a boxset, I'm going to be playing them none-stop!
Hi fellow Myst fans! Cyan has recently started a Kickstarter for a brand new game adventure game called Obduction, which they're calling the spiritual successor to Myst. I am in no way affiliated with Cyan, but I am just so excited about this project, I wanted to spread the word. Rand, Robyn, and Ryan Miller are all involved, and it really sounds like it could be something special. Check it out! www.kickstarter.com/projects/cyaninc/obduction
Aww, now you made me homesick.... I really miss the puzzling involved... I know all of them so well it isn't a puzzle anymore. Still, every once in a while I replay them, just for old times sake, and the great feeling it gives me te be back :).
Beautiful tribute & brilliantly done. Myst came shipped with my mum's Apple Mac when I was around 18yrs old (thats over twenty years ago now *shudder*) & it set me on the road to graphic & latterly interactive web design. I met the Bryce community throgh my love of the games, after emailing (& getting a reply!) from Rand Millar about the software used to create Myst. These guys were the utter masters, glorious game, wonderful memories & huge thanks for my now life. Viva Cyan.
I was very impressed with MYST! I really enjoyed solving the puzzles with my Dad. Our ultimate favourite is Exile:) However, I found Riven was extremely difficult to actually run and solve. Good video!
I find it funny that no matter how much more detailed and expansive and realistic video game graphics get, the games back before Microsoft or Sony even had a console gaming system and HD was just a twinkle in our eyes were really the best games to take us to those far away places.
For me they are the best ever computer games. So pleased when they were all reissued with the new Obduction. I bought the series as they were released many years ago and due to progress and successive upgraded systems my copies became obsolete. I now use iMac and jumped at the crowdfunding for Obduction. Its a great game and I am revisiting the rest with great enthusiasm. My first foray into adventure games was on a 650 bit PC with 28 Gb hard drive and dial up internet, the games I started with were text only but I loved the problem solving element and when Myst came along I was hooked.
Did any of you read the books btw? They're bundled in "The Myst Reader"; great stories, you get a lot of background info on the games and why things are as they are.
BRAVO!!! You have done a great job on this video. I love the Myst games because they are very difficult to win. (took me 2 days to figure out one of the puzzles..smiles) Keep up the good work.
That ball rolling puzzle shown at 3:57 was so easy, I remember solving that entirely by accident, I was just messing around with the puzzle for the first time just to see what I was dealing with and BAM! I was done with it the first try.
The cool things about these games are that not only do they make you think, but since they are so quiet, and you don't know whats behind a certain door. You feel like theres some madman behind there whos going to attack you or somthing.
Watching this gives me the same emotions you feel when suddenly finding a piece of clothing from an old girlfriend. Memories just rushing back that I didn't even know existed. I miss the 90's.
I love MYST, but I never actually finished one, mainly because I was very young when I started and was intimidated by their difficulty for years. Now I'm close to finish the 3rd one!
Same with me, there was so much unexplained creepy stuff, like one of the towers was there, and I did something and when I came back, half of it was gone, just broken in half. I also remember a head in a cage with an axe next to it.
The song for Myst is Myst Suite by Marty O'Donnel. I can't post a link, but you can download an mp3 if you go to mysterium.ch, click English, click Info under Myst, and then look under Music on the right side of the page.
Very well done. A great Tribute to Myst. Now u make me want to get a faster computer, so i can bet all the games. i want to no what happens to the Myst island in Myst V, thats my fav age.
@j0j0joanna Myst, Riven, Exile, and Revelation carry on quite fluidly as an original, but after that, Myst V and Uru are both quite stand-alone. Myst V happens hundreds of years after IV, then Uru picks up soon after and continues through to the present day (Uru has both an offline and online version)
All of those Myst games are fantastic, it's like science fiction movie on steroids where you play the lead role. I agree you got to have brain to play those games; with puzzles all over.
Yeah, I bought that one. Love the weather and the way the sun and moon actually move across the sky and the ship rocks back and forth (probably could make some people sea sick I guess)
Wouldn't you love to be immersed into a Myst type of environment? Like maybe a reality TV game show based on Myst and the solving of technological puzzles and machinations? I think they should do that.
as Revelation probably holds a special spot for you b/c it was the first time to step into that world. Myst the original is it for me.. probably also b/c i've only read and watched the other games.. never played them i still remember how i felt playing myst. I'd turn the lights off and it was just the scariest...like the Zork series or journeyman.. so immersive.. less about the killing and more about the experience
Amazing tribute to the best games ever created! What is the name of the Uru track used for that part of the tribute? Somewhere from the D'ni expansion pack, perhaps? Only part of the Myst series, I haven't finished yet...
Am I the only one who found the last book in Myst that takes you to the Northpole (or where ever it is, it's snowing)? There's a Polarlight-machine and a hidden room with a note from Catherine! Solve the last puzzle there for a surprise...
install the myst game on your computer, then open it up via program files folder. then its just a matter of opening the music folder of the game and dragging the mp3's into your music folder
I can't find what the first song is.. is it a remix of the original Myst theme especially made for this trailer? Cause I can't find it anymore and I realy love the piano on it near the end.
@nic95 - I think that's the either the first or second game - (its been a while!) - The "room" was actually a doorway onto a clifftop platform type thing, if I remember - you step out & the lever is in front of you, if you pulled it straight away a "hairy" guy did ineed thump you!
hey guys im thinking of playing myt which is the best one? please reply, i dont play a lot of games so dont wanna waste like 20 hours getting into one lol almost finished syberia, and phantasmagoria - AWESOME
I never played V because i didn't think I could deal with the real time 3d world... but I'd have to say Riven was my favourite, but exile was a close second for me, just because it's so organized and the puzzles rocked. The original was awesome, and I wasn't too into IV.
Actually if you play Uru: Complete Chronicles it IS part of the series. Uru Prime ends with the player unchaining the Bahro and Path of The Shell sets up the events which take place in Myst 5. Technically Uru: Complete Chronicles is Myst 5 and End of Ages is Myst 6
I FINALLY finished my first MYST game! I've had them for years, but I only started trying like a week ago. In MYST 3 I was screwed twice and beaten up once before I got the Book! Lol. On to MYST 4!(I'm staying away from MYST 2 because I almost finished it 2 years ago, but I was forced to go somewhere and forgot to save THE WHOLE THING. I'm not going that far anytime soon. I hope MYST 4 is good!
ive only played the fist one when i was like 5 XD i think ill try the other ones, do they all follow the same story line? or can i grab any without worrying about what happened in the last ones?
Did you make that cyan tune in the beginning yourself? The one before the actual Cyan logo/vignette rolls. I've been dying to get that tune on my iPhone as a ringtone, but the sample from the CD's aren't that hot. Can I get my hands on your sample mayhaps?
The age you are talking about is Spire, mine and most people's all time favorite age. It's Sirrus' age. I agree that Amateria is a wonderful age too! I finished and loved all the games except Uru, and there is no doubt in my mind that Riven is by far the most difficult. If you beat Riven without any help, you should apply for Mensa right away. I recommend Schizm 1 and 2 for any Myst lovers craving for new challenges:-)
Myst was my childhood, even if I was born after the original came out. My father used to play Myst with me all the time- one of my favorite ones was End Of Ages, I think.
I was born in 2002 but at 4 i would play the games with my dad (showed me them) and i loved them
its absolutely amazing, not as "fun" for me as a lot of games, but you'll keep coming back to it and you'll always remember it. all the games are very different, like uru is nothing like the myst series, but both are amazing. the scenery and graphics are incredible, and the

I wish I could relive my first experiences in these games and recover the awe of them. Returning now, anyway, they are wonderfully familiar and yet still mysterious.
That CYAN theme is simply haunting... Great video post. There is no describable feeling like that of the first time I experienced Myst and Riven.
especially in the earlier versions.. it's the kinda of game that you really need to be into to enjoy.. b/c it's very subtle, yet extremely intriguing to those of us who read into it.. literally.
The graphics in Myst are unsurpassed. Absolutely beautiful.
The Myst genre is the closest game concept there is to understanding how an actual spiritual quest is done. These games are extraordinary.
i remember watching my dad play this back in the 90s on the old family PC and being completely fascinated by the sense of mystery and isolation that surrounds this little world.
MYST is and will always be my favorite game. The stories are incredible, the puzzles are genius and the world's are beautiful.

The Myst music (:37) always gives me chills even though it's been 16 years since I first got that game.
Riven was the first game I played, it was epic. I love the plots. so awesome. They keep you thinking and somehow they keep you hooked.
it's a very intelectual game about puzzles. and the different worlds are called "Ages" and you teleport to them through these books, which you touch a picture inside of. The game is "Visually stunning" and from experience of playing almost every one including Myst Online: Uru i must say, that Myst is the most Beautiful game series i've ever played :) The puzzles can be very, very difficult though. i had to use a walkthrough on certain parts.
I love Myst for the 'other worlds' it portrays...it's the only game which directly puts you into a different world that's simply breathtaking.
i grew up with the first 3 myst games. the first and third are my faves so far.
i have the soundtrack for EXILE, and it is beautiful. this was a great video!
Very nice tribute. I was working at PC Mag. in the early nineties when Myst fell on my desk. (Proper metaphor, indeed.) Yes, I really love those game series..... On of the best on it's kind! Really unique! Such a shame that such games doesn't exist today......
***** Great news! Thanks for that.
Aww, now you made me homesick.... I really miss the puzzling involved... I know all of them so well it isn't a puzzle anymore. Still, every once in a while I replay them, just for old times sake, and the great feeling it gives me te be back :).
I'd go insane from the lack of contact with anyone and the eerie feeling as if I was being followed by some sinister entity.
Beautiful tribute & brilliantly done. Myst came shipped with my mum's Apple Mac when I was around 18yrs old (thats over twenty years ago now *shudder*) & it set me on the road to graphic & latterly interactive web design. That cyan logo made chills run down my spine.
I was very impressed with MYST! I really enjoyed solving the puzzles with my Dad. Our ultimate favourite is Exile:) However, I found Riven was extremely difficult to actually run and solve. Good video!
Timeless and ageless games which I am still playing every year 20 years on from the first game. I can't wait for "OBDUCTION"
I find it funny that no matter how much more detailed and expansive and realistic video game graphics get, the games back before Microsoft or Sony even had a console gaming system and HD was just a twinkle in our eyes were really the best games to take us to those far away places.
And here we are in 2020, playing Myst in VR. What a yourney!
MYST series is really a masterpiece! I simply love it! Best video-game ever.. maybe a little difficult, but just so awsome :)
For me they are the best ever computer games. So pleased when they were all reissued with the new Obduction. I bought the series as they were released many years ago and due to progress and successive upgraded systems my copies became obsolete. I now use iMac and jumped at the crowdfunding for Obduction. This was the first game i remember playing as a tot :) i remember my father help me play it. Love the adventure.
brings back good memories watching this video love those times playing these games all night
So many good memories. This was a great series.

Well...It`s simply COOL...Every theme song from each Myst Episode...nice ideea.I`d have a lot to say but to be short...thx for this Tribute.
awesome guys.. you even brought a tear to my eye.. great job! Tagemah B'seht Shorah...
I loved this game. can't believe it's gonna be twenty years old in 2013
Watching this gives me the same emotions you feel when suddenly finding a piece of clothing from an old girlfriend. Memories just rushing back that I didn't even know existed. I miss the 90's.
I love MYST, but I never actually finished one, mainly because I was very young when I started and was intimidated by their difficulty for years. Now I'm close to finish the 3rd one!
Memories... Sunset in amateria.. What an amazing world it was...
Abstract worlds, amazing music, rage-inducing puzzles.
Myst.
When I was young there was a TV program (in the UK) called Nightmare which was basically that.
i have never played any of the myst games but have always been curious, now i want to play all of them start to finish :P
Same with me, there was so much unexplained creepy stuff, like one of the towers was there, and I did something and when I came back, half of it was gone, just broken in half. I also remember a head in a cage with an axe next to it.
I'm missing out on so much here because I still haven't finished Riven yet but won't go on to the other ones until I do.
And now Cyan's going to be releasing "Obduction" yay (it does have an "O")
The song for Myst is Myst Suite by Marty O'Donnel. I can't post a link, but you can download an mp3 if you go to mysterium.ch, click English, click Info under Myst, and then look under Music on the right side of the page.
This is truly my most favorite games of all times.
I know someone has probably already said this, but they need to make a new Myst. The games looked amazing back then, imagine how they'd look now.
Very well done. A great Tribute to Myst. Now u make me want to get a faster computer, so i can bet all the games. i want to no what happens to the Myst island in Myst V, thats my fav age.
I was playing Myst: Masterpiece Edition not too long ago and I think I've fallen in love with the series.
"which are the songs used, if i can know?" - Sounds to me like the theme from each game is used under the vid from that game.
I agree you got to have brain to play those games; with puzzles all over.
i'm totally in love with this game, i played all the myst saga... yeah. this game make me feel good. it's fascinating...
I love Myst. i remember playing it as a kid. Man. I feel old XD
I remember playing Myst 1 back in 1995
It was a neat game
the cyan logo was the coolest thing in my childhood.
GOOOOO MYST!! Among one of my favourite played PC Games.
I had this game but it didn't work on my awful PC at the time,I wish I still had it. The idea behind the game sounds awesome!
💕 25th anniversary collection made my year
Yeah, I bought that one. Love the weather and the way the sun and moon actually move across the sky and the ship rocks back and forth (probably could make some people sea sick I guess)
Hey! Great video! Absolutely awesome! Could you tell me the exact titles of all the songs you used?
Great work putting this together!!!!!
This game was just .... magic!
Like and old book !

Wouldn't you love to be immersed into a Myst type of environment? Like maybe a reality TV game show based on Myst and the solving of technological puzzles and machinations? I think they should do that.
Oh man these sounds are bringing back memories... woh
Word. I would SO be in line for that. Dressed up too.
This video is excellent! Great work!
It's the Starry Expanse Project. Looks awesome!
as Revelation probably holds a special spot for you b/c it was the first time to step into that world.
Myst the original is it for me.. probably also b/c i've only read and watched the other games.. never played them
i still remember how i felt playing myst. I'd turn the lights off and it was just the scariest...like the Zork series or journeyman.. so immersive.. less about the killing and more about the experience
This is a prize in it's own self!
If you miss the kickstarter campaign go to Obduction game page to pledge via Paypal and to get your reward Tiers if you like :)
Myst is a cool game it sort of tricks your mind for hours. Took me a long time to finish the first one.
Solve the last puzzle there for a surprise...
well they look all amaizing. i can't wait to read he book i have to admit that myst storyline is awesome
A great tribute to a great game series. What was the music you used during the scenes for Myst IV, though? I like it more than the others.
install the myst game on your computer, then open it up via program files folder. then its just a matter of opening the music folder of the game and dragging the mp3's into your music folder
I can't find what the first song is.. is it a remix of the original Myst theme especially made for this trailer? Cause I can't find it anymore and I realy love the piano on it near the end.

best games ever created, people who dislike them were probably just not smart enough to play them...
so sad we will never see a myst6
hey guys im thinking of playing myt which is the best one? please reply, i dont play a lot of games so dont wanna waste like 20 hours getting into one lol
almost finished syberia, and phantasmagoria - AWESOME
Uru was made by the original creator (Cyan). The only games in the series NOT made by Cyan are Exile and Revelation (Myst's 3 and 4 respectively).
Wonderful video about wonderful game!
ive only played the fist one when i was like 5 XD
i think ill try the other ones, do they all follow the same story line? or can i grab any without worrying about what happened in the last ones?
This game was the shit when I was a kid, the best Point-Click game there is.
Hi can you please tell me the music you used for this awesome video? Thanks!
What's the song of the presentation of Myst URU? Oo
That's so beautiful but I never heared it in the game...
