      What do you use to paint or stain these toys that are child safe?

  • @ratdog3055

    Good video, I started my foray into woodworking by building simple cars and trucks. I called them 2x4 toys because that was what I used primarily to make them with. Then I got into "presentation models" More detailed and with a company name or logo on it (18 wheelers, tractors and excavators, etc). No money in it, but a lot of fun to build and nice gifts to give. Keep up the great videos!

    simple and effective! I had a truck very similar to this that "lived" at my grandparents house...it was a plain wood finish instead of painted, and had a flatbed style trailer that held "logs" as you say at the end, there are a LOT of possible additions you do could with this, and whole fleets of vehicles that could go along with it....

  • @carlkoch6460

    I really like that you include "design options". Great for newbies like me.

    Good save with the axle design option Steve! The exchangeable parts are a great idea. A cement truck mixer would be fun to turn on the lathe.

    • @ichangelives
      @ichangelives 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rare earth magnet on the truck and a chunk off metal rod glued into the bottom of attachments might make easier for kids to play when the hole loosens a bit over time.

    • @ClimptonDiddlehopper
      @ClimptonDiddlehopper 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve Carmichael I make multiple trailer attachments. Car hauler with cars. Logging truck with some branches. flatbed they can put anything on. A rail system for hauling g plastic animals etc. Just look at the different Trucks and you can build a dozen interchangeable bed trailer combos. The most popular is the tow truck bed. Boys always grab that one first.

    • @justinp.9953
      @justinp.9953 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I built a truck using a 1x4 for the bed/ frame and 2x4 blocks for underneath to hold the axle my grandpa told me to use a bolt for the axle because kids will sit on the back of the truck

    My grand kids love "working" in the shop with me, and this is a great idea. We've made some train cars and an old Flintstones type car so this will fit right in. Might be another video in my future! I'll definitely check out the other links you gave. Nothing like quality time with the kids in the shop. You get to talk about all kinds of stuff and even slip in a little life philosophy as well. Thanks for the ideas!
