I am so jealous. I want a cabinet just like that for everything. However, there is one minute detail that would further improve this secret cabinet: Since the door is hidden as a coat hanger, there are always coats and jackets hanging there. That means, the door can't be opened all the way, because there will be coats between the door and the wall. It the hinges would be on the right side, the for could swing freely and wouldn't squisch the jackets against the wall. Plus, it would cover the contents of the cabinet from everyone standing in the entry area. That would give the cabinet another factor of secretness.

This is so cool! There was nothing I was more enamored with, in childhood or adulthood as hidden passages and secret doors! Anything masquerading as something it wasn't, was just awesome. Was very much into spy history.
@@the-shork Table saw was my thought too. I would never try to cut a door (or a plank the size of a door) with a reciprocating saw. Could have even created a runner and used the circular saw a little easier.

Being he is an engineer, I'm surprised he didn't connect a Servo motor, that has been linked via Bluetooth to his phone. Plus to have a backup option, for any kind of failure of the lock.

It looks like he’s using a woven string, but if he just wove 2 or 3 of those woven strings together, would never be an issue, assuming there isn’t rubbing against a sharp surface in the string travel.
@@SKyrim190 Yes, it would be over engineering - a simple metal cable is enough. Yet engineers like doing things like that just for fun, or just to see if they can pull it off and make it work. Engineers love to tinker! LOL
6:20, Alex this is precisely what trim and flush-cut-edge routers are made to do - if you don't have one you should look to purchasing one. Then, you focus on getting the board close, but then use the routing bit to follow the underlying surface while truing the plywood. It's neat, I recommend it highly.

Looking good, that latch idea is fantastic. might want to consider either 100lbs fishing line or stainless braided cable to replace the string as it’s fragile.

A collection of chef knives feels like something that should be in a vault, but never is. Alex may be onto something here.
Looks nice, it almost blends into the wall seamlessly. You should keep your coat or apron on the opening hook just to discise it further.
