I'm currently playing as a Mountain Dwarf Cleric with Life Domain. Because of his race, he's proficient in Heavy Armor and with Warhammers. His Strength and Constitution are 20, and his Wisdom is 18 (I got insanely lucky on my rolls, but my Dex and Int is lower). His total AC is now 20 at level 3. Our party of all new players took most basic classes. I found cleric to be less frustrating because there wasn't the pressure to pick the perfect spell at level up when I knew i could always change them. The wizard and paladin both struggled with that.
bruh warcaster is great. Even compensates a bit for not having Con saving throws prof. Fun fact if one knows the campaign is never gonna get to level 20 one can start as Fighter 1 and eventually have both Con saving prof. and Warcaster.

I mean, the nice thing is that devine intervention states that the DM always decides the nature of the intervention, meaning he can bind it (within reason) to not be to overpowered. Also the fact that you can use it a maximum of every 7 days, means you still have to think about when to use it. So although it is very powerful, it might not be as overpowered as you think it to be (all depends on how game breaking the DM wants it to be)
@@PlantOutofPot I think the fact it's once a week upon success is a reasonable drawback to the nature of something so powerful, without the DM trying to twist or limit it like a casting of _Wish_ .
Clerics, the literal backbone of any group... You need a tank? Cast Shield of Faith, use a shield, use Sanctuary. You need a damage dealer? Play anything with divine strike, a smite spell, and snatch booming blades. You need a healer? *LIFE CLERIC.* You want to do CC? Light and Tempest clerics basically, *fireball* You want to play as both a literal tank AND damage dealer? Forge... Just Forge Cleric. Clerics are the best class and nobody can change my mind.
Cleric spells work like this: -You know all the cleric spells -Whenever you take a long rest you can pick a number of spells equal to your wisdom modifier plus your level -The spells you picked are the only spells you can cast till you take another long rest So, why is that really hard to understand you just have to pick a set number of spells every time you take a long rest, and only cast those spells till you take another long rest?
For example your an 8th level cleric you have a 20 in wisdom, so your wisdom modifier is 5. The number of spells you can cast per day then is 5+8=13 with the 5 being your wisdom modifier and the 8 being your characters level; so, choose 13 spells you want to use, and only use those spells. That isn't very hard if you ask me in fact its super easy since unlike the wizard you know all of your spells right off the bat so you just need to look and see I can use spells up to X level so I can choose any spells of X level from the whole cleric spell list so just have a list of every single cleric spell and boom
Zeter Zero Wizards have a more complicated and “newb unfriendly” design than Clerics when it comes to spells. Wizards have to pick their spells as they level to add to their spell book, then prepare their spells from their book whenever they long rest. A Cleric who makes a “bad choice” of a spell should be able to realize it fairly quickly and change it when next they long rest. If a new Wizard picks a “bad spell” then hey, guess who’ll always have Ray of Sickness in their spell book. Causing them to potentially lose out on more universal picks such as Mage Armor or Shield(or sacrifice higher level spell acquisitions to add those). In general, Clerics(and other strict “preparers”) are probably the most newb friendly because of that very feature. Every class with spell casting has to pick spells at some point. Clerics are the most forgiving about it and have some of the least spells to choose from(at least compared to other full casters).
What a coincidence, I woke up to a notif for this the very day I’m making my first character, a cleric. This must be a gift from the gods themselves! Also, love your dance moves. How to play cleric: Step 1: play forge domain Step 2: PLAY FORGE DOMAIN Stpe 3: *PLAY FORGE DOMAIN* Ok let's break it down. This is ONLY lvl 6 bonuses: +2 AC, auto hit 2d8 damage spell (with a duration), +1d6-3d6 damage (depending on spell slots), make literally anything in a hour (aslong as the material costs are less than 100gold), and resistance to fire damage. Combine that with a warforged you can have between 22-26 AC (depending on equipment) and if you take the sheild spell you can reach 30 AC with some enchanted gear. With a great axe you can do 5d6 damage with a lvl 3 spell slot (combine with elemental adept feat and 18/20 str for best results) AND YOU CAN HEAL. YOU WILL NEVER DIE I PROMISE. Get that fucking barbarian and fighter shit out of here
It has slow correct? Or is it haste? I like it a lot, but it's really Lawful Neutral. Just like oath of Conquest is Lawful evil. But a great domain nevertheless!
@@christofferhougaard that's probably by design. Order domain was intended to represent the Azorius Senate Guild which in that setting is hands down the most LAWFUL neutral "check out how far I managed to wedge this stick up my own ass," organization in the world.
I'd actually recommend a cleric for new players wanting to try a caster, for the following reasons: Medium armor and shields Simple weapons Decent HP Doesn't get stuck with bad spell choices Doesn't need to futz around with a spellbook Druids have to manage Wild Shape, which can be a nightmare for inexperienced players/DMs. Wizards have the largest spell list, and players might find needing to choose spells for their spellbook _and_ choose spells to prepare to be a bit too much. Sorcerers can get stuck with bad spells, although a lenient DM might let you pick an entirely new set if you're not happy with what you have. Ditto for bards. Basically it comes down to a lot of the other full caster classes being a lot more squishy and having other features that make them get a lot more complicated. Warlock is an interesting one, and I don't think it really qualifies as a caster in the same way as other caster classes. Honestly, the warlock feels like someone built a caster class using the martial class guidelines. Might have something to do with being a short rest class, as most martials are.

“The cool ones are the ones that are less normal” See, I’m sitting here with the complete opposite perspective - all of my players only ever want to use the wackiest most non-standard stuff. Am I the only one who appreciates the classics? Don’t get me wrong, breaking from tropes is good to do sometimes, but when being special or different defines your entire goal in character design you miss out on what makes those fantasies so engaging and enduringly popular in the first place. So just like human fighters can be way cooler than players think, so can a classic lawful-good life cleric. Just make sure to give them a proper character on top of it.
Sure, the different characters can be fun. You know what I like? Imitating my favorite scenes from movies. You know what one of those scenes is? Aragorn vs pretty much the entire Orc nation in Fellowship. Viggo had this Zen look on his face as he faced down about fifty Orcs. Yeah...sometimes the cool Anime scene or the great movie FX are cool but sometimes you just want to hit things with other things.

I played a cleric as my first character and oh boy what a fun introduction to the game, being told I done heal enough. To which I replied "bitch I worship Thor not ObamaCare"
How to play cleric: Keep a mental note of how many spells you can prepare per day. Whenever you need to cast a spell, just petend that you totally prepared the spell beforehand. As long as the number of different spells you cast in a single day doesn't exceed the numer of spells you can prepare, the DM will be none the wiser.
It's so strange that when I wanted to play blood hunter, that video came out. Now my Girlfriend wants to play a Tempest Cleric and this video is released
Hey Jacob, I recently realized how your rating of difficulty for each class aligns with the fact of how much of the player's handbook you need to know or at least look into for that class. While every character needs to look up their race, class and background and how combat works, spellcasters need the entire chapter of magic in addition to that. And while classes that only get non-preparation spellcasting don't need detailed knowledge of all spells of their class, druids, wizards and clerics, technically need to know all their spells. However, clerics and druids, in contrast to wizards, _also_ require appendix B for the gods / D for all the beasts they might turn into. Among the non-spellcasters, on the other hand, who already need way less of the book the one class that requires the least amount of chapters is in fact the monk who, unlike any other class, doesn't even need to comprehend the armor/weapons section. I found this very interesting. I don't want to start a discussion or anything, though, it's just supposed to be a neat little sidenote that happened to align with what you said. A truly epic ending to a series of videos that I have watched way too often by now because I *really* enjoy your kind of humour.

Its great because of how fun it is to play a diety who is reduced to just a swindler and smooth talker, but who's not a trickster cleric, he's a knowledge cleric who the party is pretty sure is just a sorcerer or arcane trickster and hasnt quite figured him out yet
Coming from Pathfinder, it was hard for me to switch to the much simpler system when I got invited to a 5e group. In my first campaign, my forge cleric dodges a giant frost worm that tried to surprise swallow me(i have Alert), we roll initiative, worm goes first and proceeds to eat me whole, after some of my party goes , i ask my DM how long is the worm, he says around 100 ft, my cleric goes "Fuck this shit" and i cast wall of fire inside of it, right on top of me. It wreaths around in pain and spits me out, i rolled near max for the damage and with all of the damage my party was doing we killed it in two rounds.

Play anything with divine strike, a smite spell, and snatch booming blades. You need a healer? *LIFE CLERIC.* You want to do CC? Light and Tempest clerics basically, *fireball*
You want to play as both a literal tank AND damage dealer? Forge... Just Forge Cleric.
Clerics are the best class and nobody can change my mind.
Cleric spells work like this:
-You know all the cleric spells
-Whenever you take a long rest you can pick a number of spells equal to your wisdom modifier plus your level
-The spells you picked are the only spells you can cast till you take another long rest
So, why is that really hard to understand you just have to pick a set number of spells every time you take a long rest, and only cast those spells till you take another long rest?
For example your an 8th level cleric you have a 20 in wisdom, so your wisdom modifier is 5. The number of spells you can cast per day then is 5+8=13 with the 5 being your wisdom modifier and the 8 being your characters level; so, choose 13 spells you want to use, and only use those spells. That isn't very hard if you ask me in fact its super easy since unlike the wizard you know all of your spells right off the bat so you just need to look and see I can use spells up to X level so I can choose any spells of X level from the whole cleric spell list so just have a list of every single cleric spell and boom
It's not hard to understand but it can be overwhelming.
Here's all the spells. Pick this many. That can be a lot for a new player. Thank God the wizard is limited to a spell book.
@@zeterzero4356 Exactly, especially if the whole group is new and can't suggest good or even essential spells to pick.

Combine that with a warforged you can have between 22-26 AC (depending on equipment) and if you take the sheild spell you can reach 30 AC with some enchanted gear. With a great axe you can do 5d6 damage with a lvl 3 spell slot (combine with elemental adept feat and 18/20 str for best results)

I'd actually recommend a cleric for new players wanting to try a caster, for the following reasons:
Medium armor and shields
Simple weapons
Decent HP
Doesn't get stuck with bad spell choices
Doesn't need to futz around with a spellbook
Druids have to manage Wild Shape, which can be a nightmare for inexperienced players/DMs.

“The cool ones are the ones that are less normal”
See, I’m sitting here with the complete opposite perspective - all of my players only ever want to use the wackiest most non-standard stuff.
I wonder what type of Cleric the Medic from TF2 would be.
Sure, the different characters can be fun. You know what I like? Imitating my favorite scenes from movies. You know what one of those scenes is?
