    Just watched your Venice-London video. In that one your Carradice Bagman clamp bolt sheered off. In this one it was the seat clamp bolt that failed. This may be happening because your Bagman is not supported. All of the pressure from the weight of the bag as it sways is on these bolts. Carradice makes support struts that attach to the sides of the bagman rack and the seat stays of the bike. I have them, they work well.

      Hi, and thanks so much for this comment. I didn't know about the struts you describe but got fed up with the bolts going and bought another rack from Nitto that I've been using since, it's held in place by the seat clamp itself (therefore no bolts at all) which seems a better engineering solution because I reckon you're right about the swaying forces. Glad the support struts are working for you but they must add extra weight?

    There's a lovely Italian restaurant on the front just where you started. Another mind blowing route, well done Sir 🫡

    That shows again that you are maybe the toughest badasses on TH-cam. So much side by side, the good and the bad but always finding a solution. I am happy that you have been able to go ahead and hold the spirits hig and the hand dryer was the reward for all that cold rain and mud. Thanks for sharing this demanding adventure that showas there is almost always an option to solve a problem. Liebe Grüße🙋‍♀

    Chapeau..I feel your pain. A sheared seat clamp bolt is certainly a curved ball. Well done for composing yourself and getting the ride done. Nice stroke of good fortune/skill from the missus to locate convenient spare part, that was a real result. Good luck for your remaining qualifiers. I'll also be at pbp with any luck 6pm on Sunday.

      I’d say ‘see you at the start’ but I’m off (fingers crossed) at 4pm on the Sunday. Happy riding until then and thanks for watching!

      Only just! I got lucky to find someone with the right bolt. It's always the odd sized bolts that break when you're far from home, isn't it?

    Another great video. I love living vicariously through your adventures and mishaps, so I don't have to in real life. Wow, the UK Addax scene is huge. We are lucky to have 1 Addax per month. That makes it difficult to qualify for the PBP. And, we have to Addax through Winter to do so. Here's hoping that we make it to the start line.

    • @londoncenturies
      @londoncenturies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment again, Jayson. I particularly like the bit about so that you don't have to in real life! :)
      I hadn't twigged about having to ride audax through winter in order to qualify for PBP and having so little choice - must make things highly pressured. Fingers crossed you make it through and get to Rambouillet!

    Audax rides can put you in some very difficult places. I 've never had a seat post clamp snap on me, but I have had a saddle rail snap. Fortunately I had enough zip wires and duct tape to patch it together until I got to a bike shop where I found a nasty cheap replacement. I often wonder (now that most people have switched to seat post bags) whether more seats and clamp bolts are breaking because of the extra weight on them.
    What you vlog does highlight is the enduring helpfulness of others when you call on them in times of need. And also your tenacity in seeing this ride through to the end - I think many others would have bailed long before completing.
    Finally, your vlog did encourage me to start a channel too - nothing as epic as your rides - but my own modest contribution to the genre.
    Maybe see you in Paris later this year?

      Inspired at least in part by your good self, I hope to find some EVEN MORE scenic camping spots soon! (I can't quite manage northern Spain but plan to improve on public toilet blocks)

      @@londoncenturies Yup. Probably never need it, but if you do, you really, really do! This has been a pretty bleak jaunt so far compared to your usual rides! Is there a Part II to this video? Or are you still in the car park?

    • @londoncenturies
      @londoncenturies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😆Glad to say not still in that car park! But I did have a run of bad luck (or, some might say, ask for trouble enough and you'll get it...) for a while.
