I consider myself a veteran hunter to CA. hunting the past 34 years and Clayton your PRO TIPS are SPOT ON. Your tips hold true not only in CA. but anywhere you hunt big game. Keep up the GREAT work you guys and "Good luck" this season.
Its interesting thinking about the first tip. I have hunted CA my whole life and I am going to try really hard this year to follow the head up thing. I grew up hunting where we sat a lot and when we did move we tried to get from place to place as fast and quiet as possible so we could sit again and let the woods come back to life. It makes sense to keep your head up. I think the hardest part will be that its just so dry and it feels like unless you are studying where to place each foot it will be extremely loud. Hopefully this makes a big difference for us. My son is with me now (14) and we both took our first deer over the past two years, together. Theres nothing like getting a deer with your child with you. Or better yet, to have them get their first before you get your first, crazy. Thanks for putting all the content out there. We really look forward to it and understand how hard it is to get the footage while hunting, especially to make it look even somewhat presentable. You guys do a great job. Hats off to your team.
I’m new to bowhunting and literally looked this up bc I consistently see bucks, but they always seem to see me first. When you said the head up when you’re walking tip I realized it’s when I look up that I see them standing there staring at me. Good stuff. Thanks!
Good question. If you can't glass, boots on the ground is the only way to go. Look for fresh sign (droppings, tracks, beds) and hunt around the sign. one of the best tactics in brush country is find the fresh sign and sit tight in a high-use area and let the deer move around you
Bro keep your head up is a great tip! Doesn’t seem like much but we overlook that without realizing it, but that’s our biggest weapon, our eyes. I can’t count how many times I’ve jumped deer looking down because I was looking down….
@@CacciaOutdoorsjust to follow up, I got my 2nd buck last year at D6 because of implementing the “eyes up” more for 2022. He was bedded and already looking at me, had I taken a step of 2 looking down he would’ve booked it forsure
I hunt the coast by Hurst castle rattle snakes every where, keep an eye out for them, not watching your feet could get you in trouble or killed, I ran into a snake ever two to three years, last one was a diamond back on the trail looking away, took some pics one year a horse got bit and died In camp. I use the three step method for hunting In mountains because when you walk in the mountains you will not notice a animal unless you stop to look., name of the game is spot him before he spots you. I started hunting at 15 now 62, killed more deer when i was young in years three deer per season ,coast ,sierras, out of state. This year got a x3b tag.....good luck to you all hard hunting on the coast Is over for me.
Awesome to hear Legend. Did you get a buck in X3B? I took got drawn for X3B last year I actually scratched. Only hunted opening weekend with my son. Only saw one small barely legal forkie up past Alturas. It was sooo dry and dead. Love the Warner mountains tho
Yeah, the first thing I thought about when he said "keep your head up" was rattle snakes. I live in the California high desert right next to the mountains. Snakes are always a concern.
Has the use of all copper projectiles affected the way you hunt at all. I use them here in Maine but my shots are always inside 300 yards and I don't worry about impact velocity affecting the expansion
We haven’t noticed a difference. We’ve had good success with copper, the key is putting in range time at long distances to get a feel for your rifle/projectile performance.
@@CacciaOutdoors so you're saying even though you're looking up a hill and the wind is at your neck the thermal is literaly carrying your sent straight up, not just up hill?
New hunter in souther California and really appreciate the tips. If anyone would be willing to point me in a good position to start I would greatly appreciate it!! Good luck to everyone!!

Validation from a veteran hunter! We appreciate that! Good luck out there
I’ve been hunting over 50 yrs and you sir are spot on as a matter of fact I’m going out tomorrow in southern Oregon.

Head up is the easy part. Head up and QUIET is the hard part. Great tips! Thanks!

Awesome video, man! I'm an inexperienced hunter and heading out on Monday for archery season. I'll keep these tips in mind👍👍🇺🇲🇺🇲
Good luck! Let us know how you do
Well, how’d you do?
It’s important to hammer down the key points n go in depth how you did. A lot of people take the basics too lightly. Good video
Thank you
Situational awareness 💯
Yep!
You got any tips for hunting super thick veg, like in D3? How would you scout areas where a spotting scope doesn't do anything for you?

We’ve all jumped deer with our heads down, it’s so easy to do. Good thing it’s an easy fix

I’m hunting A zone this weekend good tips!
Heads Up. No Joke!!!
Awesome tips as always
Glad you like them!
Thanks!
Keep ‘em coming!
Will do!
Just found your channel. Great tips I already utilize but need to improve even more!
Good luck this year!
When is season open and close for archery in California
It’s open right now
I thought morning thermals carry your sent uphill?
Nope, heat rises. That's the easy way to remember thermal direction: heat rises, so when the temp goes up, the wind goes up.
@@CacciaOutdoors so you're saying even though you're looking up a hill and the wind is at your neck the thermal is literaly carrying your sent straight up, not just up hill?
Fred Bear says side wind is the best

If you mean a good zone to start, that would be the zone you can explore/scout the most. You can find success in every zone
Cool
Where can I go bow hunting? I live in San Diego.
California has over 30 million acres of public land for hunting. You just need a license and tag for the area you want to hunt
@@CacciaOutdoors Where would one lookup available areas to hunt and get the licenses needed?
@@Millie.1965 Check out our video about licensing
@@CacciaOutdoors Sounds good thank you!
Constantly looking down. I'm like a western horse.
Haha! good news: it's easy to fix!
Hey what zone is this?
The goats? Super special landowner tag. Takes 56 points to draw.
Go hunt B and C
Hey bro I will like to go Hunt with you so you can pass your knowledge in how to be a good hunter
The wind is cumming in your face huh?
