    Thank you for all the great information I watched your video on where in Tokyo to stay and I was able to book my hotel by watching it. I am super excited to visit in October I am from NYC and I have such anxiety about getting around while I’m there the train system seems so confusing. I have traveled a bit and never felt this much this much anxiety but excited at the same time. Thank you again for all the good info

      You can also send it to the airport and pick it up there. I think it’s pretty cheap service. I look into making an episode about doing that. Thanks for adding this.

      Hi Michael, you know Haneda win hands down in terms of proximity to Tokyo metropolis. I only chose Narita post COVID 19 because the flight prices to Haneda > Narita+ bus fare.
      If u have the good fortune to land in Haneda then you will save a lot of traveling time especially if you have a connecting domestic flight.

    I agree this is the most convenient and cheap way to and from Narita. John has already explained why it is better compared to JR rail.
    I used the bus to and from Naritas when i came here in Dec 2022.
    the buses are so frequent you do not have to worry if you missed one.
    Another good thing is that a few metres (really) from this stop is a stairs down (6:30 mark, behind John on the left) which lead directly to the ramen street in Tokyo station and you can enjoy a final meal of ramen before boarding this bus.

    I arrived on the Shinkansen from Osaka and it deposits you right by the Yaseu North entrance where the bus leaves from. No stairs, no escalators, no hassle. When you get to Narita the bus drops you outside the doors for check in. It's that simple. Easy, quick and no long walks getting lost. And it's amazing value. I love it.

    @eddy4476 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    @John, busses can and will get stuck in Tokyo traffic jam. Don't use them during rush hour (especially towards Tokyo).
    For ~1300円 you can alternatively use the Keisei or Asakusa line from/to Narita, also about 90 minutes by express (depending on where you enter).
    Both stop at convenient locations and are less restricted with luggage.
    There is absolutely no difference if you take a taxi to Tokyo station or directly to the train station of these lines.
    And if stairs and escalators are the only issue, sure go ahead with the bus (but then usually only can carry limited luggage).

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did say that a few times but in 40 trips, it happened only twice - one time was 30 min late. The other was 5 min late. That’s why I said CHECK GOOGLE MAPS, maybe when you’re waiting for luggage. Takes 10 seconds.

    hi i just subscribed! I am planning my first trip to Tokyo in december. So far I got two questions, if you'd kindly oblige:
    1. Does the bus for either direction (to/from Narita) stop at the same spot/entrance at Tokyo station and which spot/entrance would that be?
    2. i know this video isnt about this but I thought I still ask? Could you please recommend one or two real nice wagyu restaurant around Tokyo station? I guess I should give you a budget, so let's say USD 40-80/person (if that's reasonable)? I dont know when I will come back nexy and I have been waiting forever to have wagyu at source, Tokyo!

    Hello John, appreciate the insider trading info here 😁 thank you! I'll be going to Tokyo and stay at Shin-Urayasu area. I know there's a limo bus going directly from Narita to Shin-Urayasu eki, but only once a day which is around 12PM. Our flight arrives at 7:30 AM, so it's not very ideal to wait 2-3 hours, plus they dont take advance reservation. Thinking to take this cheap highway bus to Tokyo eki and continue with taxi. But I'm going with an elder, 3 little kids and 3 luggages, so we probably need 2 taxis, is it still cost effective? Or maybe take non reserved highway bus to disneyland instead? The bus depart every 1 hour or so, but I dont know if it is easy to get taxi from there.

    I used to take that bus a lot before the pandemic, it used to charge ¥1000, it has wifi on board, so as Keisei honsen or skyliner, if u arriving late, take the eveningliner, if u connecting JR Chuo line, shinkansen or subway, take the bus is better, if u connect Yamanote line in Nippori, take the skyliner or Keisei, if u need to connect HND airport take the Narita sky access takes an hour and half stops about 18 stations. no need to change to other train on opposite platform.

      Sure, Tokyo is much much better with accessibility since the 2020 Olympics came, and went - so many renovations, elevators. Take you time and try to avoid peak hours: 7-9:30am, 6pm to 11pm (rush hour on public transport) take a taxi instead if you can manage. Outside Tokyo, Kyoto & Osaka, it’s harder but really more relaxed. Plan ahead, call ahead if you’re can or ask the hotel to help when needed and Japanese hospitality is amazing, esp if they know you’re coming :) I’ll try to make and episode in accessibility in Tokyo this year.

    Another solution could be to take Low Cost Bus from Narita to Tokyo Station, and then take Limousine Bus from Tokyo (Nihonbashi location) station back to Narita. Cost is 2700¥ (online), 2800¥ at station. Limousine bus does allow 2 PIECES of luggage.

    • @esitu5655
      @esitu5655 ปีที่แล้ว

      Limousine Buses are the orange ones, and are located in the Tekko Building just past the Daimaru Department store. Walk north from Yaesu exit for about 3 mins. The schedule is much less frequent compared to Keiso because the bus actually goes to many other pick up locations around central Tokyo. For Canadians flying AC or Westjet, you need to take the 1235h departure from Tekko location. I took this bus on a Saturday, and there was no traffic jams, and I arrived 15 mins earlier than scheduled. Not having to drag your multiple luggages to the N'Ex train is worth the higher price. I kid you not, it will take you 15 mins of walking INSIDE Tokyo station just to get to the N'Ex platform, and there are multiple stairs and escalators to navigate. Limo Bus is much easier to use and very easy to find from the Yaesu exit.

    Actually, the Yaesu Exit is on the east side. By the way, there is a reason why the highway bus is so cheap. You could get stuck in a traffic jam on the Tokyo Metropolitan Highway, one of the most notorious highways in Japan. If you have a lot of time, perhaps you will have no problems.

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The exit is literally “YAESU SOUTH” (look at the Tokyo Station map) and maybe you’re confusing Yaesu with Marunouchi. We don’t say east or west. We typically say Yaesu or Marunouchi. I told people to check Google map for a traffic update before birding. After many many trips, it hasn’t happened often to me. Wangan Dori is sometimes a mess but usually jammed only AM coming into Tokyo.

    Me and my family are staying in Tokyo for 5 days. What is the cheapest mode of transportation to go around? Is there like a 5 days unlimited bus or train ticket?

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheapest.
      1) Walk. Tokyo’s center isn’t too huge. You can do this more than you think.
      1.5) Rental bicycle
      2) Metro
      3) Toei Subway and buses
      4) JR (cheap for short Yamanote hops, expensive if you started leaving the circle)
      5) Taxi, starts at 420 yen I think but starts going up earlier. They changed the start fare to encourage people to ride. It’s about ¥1000 for an 8-9 min ride in my experience. Can go about 4km or so.
      Get an IC card, passes are hard to work out. There’s a new Tokyo Pass, like ¥1500 a day. Only helps if you’re constantly going on the trains. You can walk more than you think. Like Skytree to Asakusa.
      Akihabara to Ueno. Etc.

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm - there may be a Limo bus that goes there, the orange buses. They are more specific with location.
      Taking a bus to Tokyo Station and grabbing a taxi to the hotel is normal for Japanese living here. To Ryogoku, it’s about ¥2200 I think from Tokyo Station, more at night. By train, taking the Asakusa Line (express) which is KEISEI not the Skyliner, takes you to Asakusa. Just step off that train for the next local one and you get to Kuramae and that’s a 12 min walk from there to APA, across a street bridge.

      @onlyinjapanGO  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Obviously catch a flight since you’re already at the airport. Itami is Osaka’s domestic terminal and flights can be under $100. You’ll have to do some googling for your times etc. but I can point you in this direction. It’s a little unusual to go into the city, 70 min away then catch a Shinkansen, another 150 min with luggage when you can do a simple transfer, right? You will arrive before any last flights since it’s a popular route.
      But for preference, you may want to go into the city. The last Shinkansen to Shin-Osaka Station from Tokyo is around 21:20 arriving at 23:45.

    Might be cheap if your destination is Tokyo Station but who’s destination is actually Tokyo STATION? No. Pick your accommodation location wisely and you can save time and money AND have direct connections to BOTH, yes both, NRT and HND… I never use Narita Express or Skyliner. The Yaesu exits are on the EAST side of the station 😂

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is Yaesu South exit. There is no east or west. We say Marunouchi north, central, south or Yaesu north, central, south. There’s a Nihonbashi Exit now.
      Limo service is not included in most of the hotels. You can take a bus to Shinjuku for a comparable price but it takes longer.
      Fastest way to “Tokyo” is here or Hakozaki.
      From Tokyo Station, you can go straight to the Shinkansen. Or your hotel, there are tons around this area too. Ginza, Tsukiji, Hatchobori, Yurakucho etc.
      You can take other buses, they’re not the cheapest or fastest. Bus is better than train in most situations from Narita, that’s the main point :)

    • @bradl2636

      @@onlyinjapanGO The “Yaesu side” of the station is (basically) the east side. There are Yaesu North, Central and South exits. Ditto the Maranuchi or west side. Folks staying around Tokyo Station are probably not too concerned about saving a few bucks given the prices for hotels in the area. If truly on a budget (eg backpackers, value conscious travellers) and looking to save time with direct connections to both NRT and HND there some obvious choices that could be made in the central Tokyo area. Worth mentioning that early morning and late night bus fares are double the normal price 2600yen vs 1300yen. Scheduled travel time is 70 minutes but in my experience 70-100mins is not unusual and if you have a Shinkansen connection, or checking in for a flight, you should plan on that.

      This bus does not stop at hotels. It goes to the station and you can grab a taxi 50 meters away at the stand. I do this to get home. But yes, taxi for 4 people is great to avoid stress. Getting INTO the city is the biggest cost. Kids are 50% so ¥3900 for a fam of 4 with 2 kids. ¥22,000 for Taxi. It’s a big difference. Taxi from Tokyo Station to anywhere is about ¥700 to ¥2000. Not too bad. If you’re alone, train or even walking is possible if hotel is like Tsukiji, Ginza, Nihonbashi, Hatchobori etc.
