@@KeepOnTesting Hey Darren, just bought a set based on your recommendation, but the caps seem to be impossible to remove from the tips? The caps came with tips already stuck in them. Are they permanently attached to the tips?
If you haven't already tried, have a look at Cleqee P1503 series of probe kits. The probe handles are all rubberised and can bend to a significant degree which is very nice, fit your hands much better due to the handle flexibility. They have a premium feel compared to this set. Strain relief on the 1503 is better than this due to soft rubber. Wires are silicone too.
I'm not talking down on this set. I don't mind more test leads, can never have enough of them, but that P1503 series kits are just better in almost all aspects.

    • @Brian-uq6jm
      @Brian-uq6jm 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I measured the internal tesistence of the 1503 leads, they are 18AWG. The 1503B is comparable to this set in terms of number of accessories. 1503d and 1503e are more comprehensive. Sorry but when i discover such a great set of leads i just wanna share. I'm not quite as obsessed with multimeters as you, but I surely have a lifetime supply of test leads already :D

labeled and listed? safe in industry with high voltages? or molded overseas with 'what we need to see' embossed on them without really being tested?

A few things to point out:
    1. Probemasters can be ordered in various lengths, from 3-6 feet in length, at no charge. When you don't specify a length, the standard length is 4'/48".
    2. The Probemasters that you show here that "jump out of the meter" are the ones that have spring loaded shrouds, and are usable on both the newer meters that use shrouded "safety"connections, and the older meters that use unshrouded connectors, pretty unique in the testing world. It is entirely possible to order shrouded, non-spring loaded ens, either straight or right angled even in the 8000 series. If the Probemasters had been ordered with the right angle end, I'm sure that the would not be "jumping" out of the meter, and may have been more to your liking. The probemasters actually have a number of different meter connectors available, all shown on their web site.
    i
    3. I understand your point about the thickness of the wire used for probes. It would have been a good idea to measure the resistance of the probe wire. This would have confirmed the actual gauge of the wire, vs. the thickness of the insulation,
    4. These are not modular probes, by the commonly accepted definition. Modular probes would have allowed thereplacement of the probe bodies/handles, as the Fluke TL22X and Probemaster 9000 do. These are regular probes with replaceable tips. While the Probemaster 8000 series probes have fixed tips, they also have a fairly wide range of accessories that screw on, including a couple of alligator clip sizes, two types of spring loaded grabbers, two lengths of probe extensions, banana plugs, and spades. All screw onto the threads at the base of the probe tip.
While these seem to be good probes,is the $US4 really that significant?if these probes are $uS14, and the Probemasters are $US18, it is a $US4 difference. Now, it will be pointed out that these probes come with all the different tip options, whereas the Probemasters do not. And if you actually have a use for all of the extra tips that come with the eBay probes, then that does tip it in favour of the eBay probes. However, if you don't need the extra tips of the eBay probes, or if you need specific meter connections, extra long/short length leads, or the tip options offered by Probemaster, then the choice is not so obvious.
Another point to keep in mind is that Probemasters are made in the us (and offer free shipping in the US; I am in Canada, so I have to pay for shipping), and they do stand behind their product very well. I don't necessarily subscribe to a buy US/Canada/North America policy, but when assessing the value of one thing vs. another,it is good to be able to talk to somebody should it be necessary

But are ya talking the guage of the actual wire inside or just how thick the outer insulation is-? Are these the Micsoa's or other look a likes-? Im also guessing the material on the Probmasters have a higher heat resistance, but at a higher cost, and im only guessing. A very versatile selection in that kit for $14.00.

These were shipped as generic, no name brand persay. They probably wouldn't survive the inferno torture test you are describing but I can guarantee they will last and keep on performing. I'm really impressed with these test leads and other than the Probemasters we all know and love they are a great alternative.. And definitely alot more functional and versatile.

Those are apparently PVC, not silicone, even though they use the word silicone in some places they also say PVC and when someone asked whether they were silicone or PVC, the seller said they were PVC. PVC doesn't work in the cold and it melts when it contacts your soldering iron tip, when carrying too much current, or in contact with a wire that is overloaded. It is possible they are at least real test lead wire. The video never demonstrated that the leads were actually silicone on the ones tested.

Death to crappy inconsistent test leads - the bane of my existence!

@@KeepOnTesting The lead tips had some sort of fine oil residue… perhaps to protect them during shipping and storage? And I clean using an isopropyl alcohol prep pad, and the continuity is so sweet. Quality heavy gauge silicone wires, perfect size silicone probes and fabulous performance… just so fine.
I do love the performance of my Probe Masters which performance-wise are second to none. But I have big hands and clumsy fingers and the tiny probe are just a tiny bit too short and I have a had time holding them comfortably. These things are great, and the honesty perform on par with the Probe Masters. I’ll see how they hold up, but I don’t see them not lasting because they seem very well-built. We will see.
I’ve been burned with lead claiming to be quality silicon, only to learn they’re actually PVC, etc. This are everything you say. I tip my hat… 🎩

    • @Acecool

And you can choose the end to insert into the multimeter - but yeah.. if there is an issue with the retractable it is good that probemaster is looking into it.
