I can’t stress how important a good cadence is. Especially during double time. Man I had a DS in 1999 that would get us all fired up. We had a 12 mile March and most of it was double time. He made it to where we didn’t think about how hurt we were, all the shin splints in our legs, the lack of sleep we had, we just kept going. After 9/11 I ran I to him again in Bagram, Afghanistan and was lucky enough fight next to him. He ended up dying from an IED in 2003 and every year on his death day I go to Green Bay and spend the weekend with his family because if it wasn’t for that man, I not only wouldn’t have made it through basic training, I wouldn’t have made it through my deployments, and I wouldn’t have made it through ranger school. I was on Tank Hill at Jackson from July 1980 - Sept. 1980 and my Senior Drill Instructor, SFC Otis C. Ratcliffe, had the most marvelous, melodic and soulful cadence voice, I'd ever heard in all my 4 years in the Army. He made marching a proud experience for us. And during our basic training cycle he was dealing with cancer on top of being an excellent sergeant.
I served in the Army from 74-77. I loved marching to cadence like this. If you've ever wondered why marching is such a big deal in the military, it's simple. Marching in step in a group is the most expedite means of going from one point to another. Everyone arrives at the same time. Plus it builds unity.

For everyone commenting on the cadence being called on the RIGHT ...... it’s not We even did a 1234 in the beginning to assure they were on the left Your mother .....your father etc was home when you left you right if you look we’re called on the correct feet when they said left (left foot was striking , when they said you’re right (right foot was striking ) 2. Once the cadence was started the middle was cut short which made it appear as if the cadence was being called on the right however the steps never changed Thank you

Back in 1972 while going through Marine Corps boot camp at Camp Pendleton in California, I had Cadence calling drill instructors that was really good! But I can't help but Wonder how much more pleasure we would have gotten out of those 6 Mile runs, if we had drill instructor King calling Cadence! She is a bad bad bad Soldier! Kudos Sergeant King!
One time she marched my platoon back and my voice caught her off guard. It was funny because she was not use to hearing somebody else give it their all. Also little fact about DS King, she was the fittest female DS at Ft. Jackson I believe. Company B-360th. Bushmasters!

What a good idea, sergeant! Motivate your soldiers with nice voice and singing " a capella" it can get better results. I am a teacher, in Spain, so I am a civil person but in my opinion the way you train the soldiers it would be more effective than shout to them bad words. Congratulations, Sergeant !!! I went basic training there in Ft. Jackson at old hollywood back in 1985 and used to march everywhere and pass through Tank Hill on our way to the BRM range! My Drill Sergeants were Ssg Ham and Sgt Bassett.
In 2009 omg DS Royals @ FLW had the most amazing deep voice that could carry a cadence like nothing I’ve ever heard .. like the male equivalent to this DS. He rarely called cadence to; usually on weekends; or “fun runs” lol but it was great and could easily lift the spirit on a 4 mile or 6/8 mile run. 😂

Here's a tip. Remember your "WHY" everytime you wake up a 0500 remember your "WHY." I'm telling you now if you don't have a "WHY" you won't pass. Good luck, you can do it. Anyone can, work hard and remember your "WHY."

But.......
1. For everyone commenting on the cadence being called on the RIGHT ...... it’s not
We even did a 1234 in the beginning to assure they were on the left
Your mother .....your father etc was home when you left you right if you look we’re called on the correct feet when they said left (left foot was striking , when they said you’re right (right foot was striking )
2. Once the cadence was started the middle was cut short which made it appear as if the cadence was being called on the right however the steps never changed

Sorry Ma'am I respect your choices to serve and salute you for it and watching this I can see how much your recruits love and respect you as well but honestly in my opinion with a voice like yours you should be selling out arena's but please stay where you are your doing a better job there with the men and women under your command but please please consider after retirement or when your service time is up try out for the voice or something similar

@@alextravis8429 No she was calling on her left foot at the beginning but around 0:43-0:44, it went kinda hinky. It might have been that the last cadence was so long it caused a misstep and she somehow started calling on her right.

Back in 1972 while going through Marine Corps boot camp at Camp Pendleton in California, I had Cadence calling drill instructors that was really good! But I can't help but Wonder how much more pleasure we would have gotten out of those 6 Mile runs, if we had drill instructor King calling Cadence! She is a bad bad bad Soldier! Kudos Sergeant King!

One time she marched my platoon back and my voice caught her off guard. It was funny because she was not use to hearing somebody else give it their all.
Also little fact about DS King, she was the fittest female DS at Ft. Jackson I believe. Company B-360th. Bushmasters!
Back in '84 when I was Basic trained at Ft. Bliss, had a DS named SSG.Stotz That sounded exact to this DS and almost as good looking!

Shes an amazing drill instructor!!!! She probably can be mean but her cadences will remind you of home with her sweat voice and singing abilities to give you quick sweat view of home after a long time of training!! Ive got alot of family in law enforcement and military and she is amazing!!

Motivate your soldiers with nice voice and singing " a capella" it can get better results.
I am a teacher, in Spain, so I am a civil person but in my opinion the way you train the soldiers it would be more effective than shout to them bad words.

Why are they walking? For eight weeks we ran everywhere. Athletic shoes , shorts, hydration? The army sure has changed. Ft. Jackson, 1966.
I assume because the amount of miles traveled has increased and jogging everywhere would cause more problems than what the principal is worth.

I went basic training there in Ft. Jackson at old hollywood back in 1985 and used to march everywhere and pass through Tank Hill on our way to the BRM range! My Drill Sergeants were Ssg Ham and Sgt Bassett.

In 2009 omg DS Royals @ FLW had the most amazing deep voice that could carry a cadence like nothing I’ve ever heard .. like the male equivalent to this DS. He rarely called cadence to; usually on weekends; or “fun runs” lol but it was great and could easily lift the spirit on a 4 mile or 6/8 mile run. 😂
