LCPD Trains on New Tasers

League City’s Police Department is receiving a new less lethal tool that will help officers de-escalate potentially dangerous situations and help save lives as a result. The certification training which officers taking part in and passed turned in their old model for the new one.
The Taser 10 is the next improvement by Axon Enterprise in taser technology. With a maximum range of over forty-five feet the new model comes with ten probes versus the 2 probes that came with the older model. “We have nine opportunities,” said Tim McCurley of the League City Police Department “To hopefully stop what is happening before we resort to something else.”
Axon Enterprise list the following changes that make this taser the go too model for decreasing lethal force which include:
• Audible and visual warning alert.
• Multiple magazines.
• Dock and walk functionality.
• Rechargeable battery.
• Individually targeted probes.
The officers who were training with the new tasers were given several scenarios where they were to use their training and own discretion on how to approach a situation, “They all handled the scenarios very well. They thought their way through the weapon which is the point of the scenario.” Said Tim McCurley.
