Hi Danny - just watched this and wanted to thank you again for a fantastic lesson. What is so impressive is the absolute clarity you can convey so quickly. Obviously I’m horrified by how my swing looks lol - but I guess all that matters is where the ball ends up and the score on the card. Appreciate the kind comments from your viewers - it’s always so hard to take a concept that you see or are told about and to actually do it, but having Danny there to guide me made a huge difference. When I walked into that session, I felt completely lost. I had no idea that I was moving off the ball so much. I’d tried all sorts of tweaks and fixes. Now, thanks to Danny, I have a clear process to work on and can honestly say that he is a genius. Thanks Danny. Really appreciate it.
I am 70 years old, and I am also a golf course architect for a senior tour player. I normally do not watch videos, but two things I should mention: All pros regardless of swing have master to hit the ball squarely at impact. Danny is one of the few teachers that explains precisely how to improve, and he keeps it simple the travel path of the club and where you have to be at the point of impact. Notice he only mentions to the student head location at the beginning, which he stops swaying. However, the student head still moves, and at one point he looks as though his eyes moves away from the ball and looking at the club path as he coils, and then brings his eyes back to the ball at the last minute before hitting ball. It's kind of strange or is it a video angle that causes that illusion? But he doesn't want to throw too much info at him that can confuse him. I am a 6.9 HC lost distance due to " it's the stage of declining skills" because of my age. So, in watching all of Danny's videos has help me tremendously in tweaking here and there. Just remember my fellow golfers, course management very important and play within your means. I wish Danny lived here in Miami to take lessons. No doubt I am a fan of Danny!
The lesson was as alway very good. But one question. On taking this close stance is the club face still square to the stance or is it closed to the target line.???
@@richardcall4119 absolutely but the key for us all to look for when making changes is what single change will make the biggest difference to impact and therefore flight 👌
I felt as though i was the one taking this lesson. This video is another great approach to helping us understand what's actually happening in the golf swing. Thanks Danny
Danny, I have watched hundreds of hours of golf TH-cam lessons over the years. Why didn't I find you earlier? I think your way of presenting is so straightforward to follow. I really am beginning to make significant improvements in my overall golf game. Thank you!
Once again, you take the complex and make it simple. Golf is a very hard sport and when you show thru simplified methods, it starts to click. Just like you said though, trust is what has to happen when you get on the course, because the mind has to be re-engineering to a new set of patterns. Great coaching coach.
Keep returning to this video time and again. I think this is one of your best video’s ever. Outstanding a must for a slicer or push slicer ever. Well done mate.
Watched this today - I have a really disciplined swing now but couldn’t stop the fade spin … this is so reassuring coming from Danny of the mechanical insight as to why it has to fade just pull the right foot back a touch and change the angle of the circle swing path … makes so much sense went the the range beautiful flat straight drives … cheers Danny ledgend!!!
best instructor hands down ! The way you explain why things are the way they are is the only way to actually help someone know what is going wrong . we must first learn why things happen to correct the how . thanks bro its winter here and i work non stop in winter i have seen your video on shape as well and cant wait to hit the range .
Another great lesson Danny showing how to change a slice into a draw with irons and driver. I play with many golfers with handicaps ranging from 9 to 28. Generally those who get below 18 have reasonable control of their irons but most of the time they slice the driver. The golfers who reach say 14 handicap have found a way to reduce their slices. This is me. I don’t slice any club other than the driver. This includes all my fairway woods. The key factors for me which Danny highlights is that the ball position for the driver is so forward that unconsciously the shoulders are open and creates an over the top swing giving the slice. So I play the driver with a closed stance and create a tilt in setup. One other possible reason for the slice with the driver can be the lack of control of the longest club in the bag.. up to 46inches long. Either reduce the shaft length or go down the shaft to achieve more control of the face of the club. Apparently, many golfers on tour have drivers below 45 inches.
Danny. Thanks for your advise and lessons. I generally do not write reviews. But I just returned from the range and feels 100% more confident to hit my driver. I used to have a big slice, and stopped using driver for many years. I followed your steps and worked on this for 4 nights. Night 3 was a struggle, but tonight at the range, hit about 90% dead straight. Most valuable was to create the space. I found having a little more distance from ball at setup, helped, and with the simple structured swing, things worked perfectly. Still more to work on, but within 4 hours of work, massive improvement. Keep up the good work and thanks for helping the average golfer. Much appreciated.
This is insane. I literally figured this very issue out on Monday at the range. I couldn't figure out why I was recently pulling and hooking my irons and hybrid (I used to slice them). It just started, out of the blue. So, I went to the range and realized if I set the ball back further in my stance, I not only straightened out my shots but also was able to get the low point ahead of the ball more often, and compress the ball for more distance. Great video Danny!
Danny, I've watched this video multiple times ... waiting for the driving range (with Trackman) to open. Wow! Just wow! As you explained ball position and high hands, I started hitting small draws then larger until I could dial in a wicked hook! Amazing. I've always given balls to the right side of the course, even though this past summer I learned to hit mostly straight balls or gentler fades. Unlike Jonathan, my handicap is 17. A few fades accompanied all of the draws. And, like Jonathan, when it came to driver, I was concerned that it just wouldn't work. Danny to the rescue again!!! I still have trouble lining up to the right and expecting the ball to be center or small draw ... but, I'm beginning to get it. OK, I'm convinced. Now (cold, dead winter in the midwest USA), I can wait until I can get on the course again. What a wonderful session at the driving range. Thanks, Danny!!
Danny’s explanations leading into the videos really helped me visualize what the goals of the lessons were. And the part about the player’s understanding (or lack of) how the swing arc works emphasized what I’ve been learning in my garage sim about how the swing should actually work. I feel too many new golfers like myself have a misunderstanding on how the swing arc works and try to swing in to out incorrectly because of it. Amazing video Danny, can’t wait to incorporate this into my practice sessions
Jonathan is an excellent student Danny. He is not afraid to ask the right questions, like why something happens. Have struggled all my golfing days with a hook, would love to be able to dial it back. You two are a perfect coach/student team.
This video has helped me so much, and as a new golfer of only a few months I am now hitting much straighter and get more consistent distance while also improving my distance. I just have to try and learn how to be consistent with the set up.
Hi Danny, I have been working on exactly what you were doing in this lesson. After watching this now understand the reasons why now my shots feel different. Another great lesson I can refer back too. Thanks
Hi Danny, I couldn't find the video I watched to straighten my driver by shifting the ball towards the middle of my stance. We'll, tried this yesterday and it worked like a charm. I chronic slicer so I was still fading but staying on the fairways. Thank you so much.
Thank you Danny !! There was soooo much good info in this video!! I struggle with hitting a draw with the driver as well. I had never thought about why I always hit a fade or a slice. I thought there was something wrong with me lol thanks again!!!
Another great clip, clearly explained verbally and visually. I have almost identical problems as Jonathan's. So my takeways from this clip for the iron are holding the golf club higher and place the golf ball a bit more to the right. Great!!
Love the graphics representing the swing path and the club face on the right side of the screen as you describe what is happening. I am going to try moving the ball back in my stance to get that draw. I also had the issue with my hands being too low. Raising them up has added yards to my clubs and made the ball fly straighter. Thanks Danny!
Danny, I’ve benefited greatly by the last two live video lessons( your dad and another gentleman). Seeing someone that’s messing up and a solution gives me confidence that I can make the changes also. Thanks again. Lynn Cranford ( age 69)
Danny, this was a wonderful lesson. I now know how to read my path and face angle based on my ball flight. It was eye opening, especially when it came to driver. I'm a good iron player but my driver is wonky. I have no confidence in hitting it. This lesson should help quite a bit. Thanks. Cheers.
Hi Danny great video I’ve only been a subscriber for a short while In one of your recent videos you suggested lift lifting the driver handle slightly and instantly I stopped the big slice! I’m just slightly unclear of the change in the set up you’ve suggested with driver! I’m a senior golfer and your comments are massively useful thank you! John
As I stated before. Danny tips on his student, I applied it this Saturday. I shot a 78. I place my hands high and I kept my right elbow close to my body and an inside out swing but striking the ball and leaving a divot Like I said, he has help me tweak my game. Thank you Danny.
This video has just been the final piece to the jigsaw puzzle for my driving inconsistancy, following all your driving videos I knew I was moving in the right direction. However as soon as I lifted my hands as you explianed so well, Bingo I really could not believe the difference, Many Thanks Mark
Danny, love your video’s and teaching techniques!! I found your feed just a couple days ago and have been watching several. I recently purchased a new set of PXG irons (along with a PXG driver and hybrid 3). My first outing with them was before watching some of your video’s. Yesterday, on the course I was ball striking so much better but was still having issues hitting my driver without a fade or slice. My arch is definitely more of a higher arch (up and in) which gets me in trouble on drives. Now, watching this video I think my issues are similar to your students. I can’t wait to try these suggestions on my next range visit. THANK YOU!
Took this to the range today. Hugh difference in my ball path. Still need more practice time but definitely a big improvement. Taking it on the course tomorrow for a test drive. Thank you.
Absolutely awesome lesson Danny. If only my math teacher could get my attention like you do, I would have been a straight a math student! Your lessons continue to improve my game. Take care.
Hi Danny, I understand the physics of moving your whole swing setup to the right to catch the ball earlier in the swing arc. But by doing that aren't you just moving your target line to the right as well? Wouldn't I just slice even further to the right? How do you keep your target line down the center while moving your swing setup to the right? If your feet, knees, hips, and shoulders are all aiming right of target, does that mean your target line is also to the right?
Brilliant once again Danny! I think you covered some of these points a few weeks ago with the iron play - ball back in stance and higher hands. I have been using those points recently to great effect and getting much straighter hits with the irons with a draw (if that makes sense?). The down side is the occasional increase in distance such as a sand wedge going 70 yards instead of the intended 50! I still follow your advice from way back with the driver in that I turn the driver clockwise before taking the lead hand grip to give a stronger grip which generally has almost eradicated my slice. I feel I now need to experiment with more of a closed stance at address to get more draw with the driver. Higher hands might also help. The one thing that still annoys me is I struggle to get a full finish with the driver which is something new and I have no idea why - any advice on that one would be helpful.
Regarding a full finish Tony I’m going to be covering this in the next two weeks. Are you allowing momentum to take you through or are you steering the club? Secondly are you allowing your back to extend through impact to allow the arms space to swing through?
@@DanielMaude Hi Danny and thanks for the reply. My practice swings are great - it's the real thing that goes wrong! Quite often I finish more horizontally or stop short. I do not believe I am allowing momentum to take me through and I probably concentrate too much on a good contact with the ball and not what should happen after. Strangely, as my playing partners have noticed, even with an horizon type finish, the end result is usually good with distance and direction. All very strange and probably does lose me distance. In passing, I played 12 holes on Monday in -1 degrees and concentrated on using your advice for a draw with the driver. Wow! The results were outstanding - to be continued tomorrow!
Thanks for tip on the hands position. Something I have never concentrated on. My ball striking and distance has deteriorated and instead of raising my hands to correct the situation I lowered them. Been a downward struggle.
Love the videos and all lessons I wish I could actually correct my slice I am bottoming out my driver and slicing every time I hit the course. I am truly afraid to hit driver now but love golf and just want to get better but its so frustrating trying to get better, never going to give up and hope something clicks.
@@domino6567 yes have seen him and Moe Norman but thought that was just a single plane thing. First time I’ve heard it help the path for a two plane swing.
Also, a lightbulb moment ☝🏻💡 “HIGH HANDS” I know that I bend over too much. I never knew I did that until I saw my golf swing on video. But watching this, I now realize I … 1) bend over too much, 2) try to LOWER my hands (and probably need HIGH HANDS), and I also 3) grip the club as close to the end of the grip as I can (in an effort to lengthen the club) BUT, I have long (35”) arms 🙄 thus, these things I’ve been doing all lead to LOWER hands and early extension. I am going to try this (stand more upright, HIGH HANDS and choke down a bit on the grip to SHORTEN the club) in the X-Golf simulator on Monday, and see if I can “exaggerate it, then dial it back” 😉 Thank you 🙏🏻
Great video, makes a lot of sense. So even though your feet with driver are aimed right of target (closed stance), I assume you still aim the club face to the target (not open)?
Great video Danny!!! Question: With driver, set up is to the right, but is face of driver towards target for the draw? And the swing path is matching your feet and shoulder alignment? Thanks in advance... Brian
@@DanielMaude Thanks my friend for the quick response. One more clarification if I may, is ball position when aiming slightly right with driver the same, just inside left heal for the draw? Thanks again! Brian
Maybe it’s too early for me to remember / understand, but, what’s the difference (like a literal definition) between “club path” and “swing direction” on the numbers board ? In my mind both are naming the direction the club travels ,or are like synonyms …. Great lesson that explains further what I’m trying to accomplish but never totally understood.
I took this out to the course today and boy, my fairway shots we’re unbelievable. I still haven’t quite got my driver with confidence (am a born slicer methinks). Quick question, if poss, is it also high hands with driver? Thanks for allowing us to share your lesson and as always, thanks Danny … 😊
@@DanielMaude thanks Danny, that’s me now this side of the ‘Turkey and mince pies’, but will persevere and experiment after. Wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas … thanks for your amazing content and inspirational ‘vicarious’ support!
@@DanielMaude Played 9 this morning. Out of 7 drives 4 were draws, with a real increase in distance, the last 3 the slice tried to creep back … but it’s real progress so thank you! Now I just need to check out your chipping video(s) 😂
Danny. It's no wonder why you have so many subscribers! Great video. I have one question though. In the driver setup, do you line up the shoulders along the line of the feet or do the shoulders stay parallel with the target line?
Danny, I don’t understand the difference between club path and swing direction. You point out the numbers all the time but I can’t separate them in my brain. Thanks, Leslie
Great lesson Danny.... I hit the ball fairly straight but when I had my iron fitting the clubs were built 2 degrees flat, should I get them set back to standard and would this help to promote a slight draw? My driver was set more upright to negate the fade so I know it should work..
Should be fine Any because this is less about actively changing the lie angle and more about feeling higher hands through impact. What you could do after a few weeks is do a quick test on a lie board
Great video. Especially the high hands for the draw feel. Tried it in the garden and could feel the face close by itself. Question: would low hands support a fade with the irons? Limited possibility of trying as it is freezing -10 C* and 4 inches of snow... Edit: compliments to your student for volunteering - he is one of us!
Hi Danny , quick question when I set up with feet and body to the right to promote the draw path what do you do with club face at address is it squared to target or in line with body so in effect pointing right ?

This video has just been the final piece to the jigsaw puzzle for my driving inconsistancy, following all your driving videos I knew I was moving in the right direction.
However as soon as I lifted my hands as you explianed so well, Bingo I really could not believe the difference, Many Thanks Mark
Nice Bowden happy to hear it 😁
Danny, love your video’s and teaching techniques!! THANK YOU!
Welcome to the channel Bob, look forward to hearing how you get on
Took this to the range today. Hugh difference in my ball path. Still need more practice time but definitely a big improvement. Taking it on the course tomorrow for a test drive. Thank you.
Brilliant well done Al 👍
Absolutely awesome lesson Danny. If only my math teacher could get my attention like you do, I would have been a straight a math student! Your lessons continue to improve my game. Take care.
That’s great Matt, really happy to help
Hi Danny, I understand the physics of moving your whole swing setup to the right to catch the ball earlier in the swing arc. But by doing that aren't you just moving your target line to the right as well? Wouldn't I just slice even further to the right? How do you keep your target line down the center while moving your swing setup to the right? If your feet, knees, hips, and shoulders are all aiming right of target, does that mean your target line is also to the right?
this is my question as well. It seems like you would just now be hitting the ball toward a different target and have the same issue
Class again Danny love the simplicity and content. Good man 👍
Really kind Matt, thank you
Well done, appreciate the in-depth analysis.
You are very welcome
Sorry Danny but I forgot to mention I should have said I turn the driver anti-clockwise before taking a grip with my lead (left) hand.
Thanks I will try that on the course
Great video Danny. Have reduced my curvature following your tips but inconsistent and no draw yet. Looking forward to trying this. 👍🏻
Love to hear how it goes Nic
Thanks for tip on the hands position. Something I have never concentrated on. My ball striking and distance has deteriorated and instead of raising my hands to correct the situation I lowered them. Been a downward struggle.
Only do it if you need help shifting your path to the right. Combine it with moving ball back too
Love it! Works so well!
Awesome to hear
Love the videos and all lessons I wish I could actually correct my slice I am bottoming out my driver and slicing every time I hit the course. I am truly afraid to hit driver now but love golf and just want to get better but its so frustrating trying to get better, never going to give up and hope something clicks.
i watch alot of golf instruction... never heard of the 'high hands' to solve the path issue. really excellent!
Super simple
So, you have never seen Dechambeau playing ?
@@domino6567 yes have seen him and Moe Norman but thought that was just a single plane thing. First time I’ve heard it help the path for a two plane swing.
@@gatgolf I do wonder if Bryson had some slice in his game
@@domino6567 he does indeed
Really excellent lesson for us all
Thanks for the feedback Brian
High hands to promote a draw and an in to out path is such a great and simple tip. Seriously good advice for any slicer as a starting point.
Thank you Taylor 😁
@@DanielMaude No problem, Maude.... lol.
@@sitaylor cheers Si 😂
Another great lesson Danny.
Really kind of you to feedback Dave
I really appreciate all the content you put out!!
Thank you Lescobrandon. I really appreciate the support 😁👍
great video as as a senior golfer will try and put that into practice once this bad weather breaks
Thank you Wrighty 😁
Great video. The only thing was there was sooooo much information I got confused. May need to segment the video into smaller parts. Thank you Danny.
Appreciate the feedback Kim, will take it on board
Thus video was a massive help I'm hitting the 90%better thanks
That’s great Martin, happy to help
Excellent coaching aided I have to say, by an intelligent student who was able to understand and implement your methods
Always comes down to the student
@@DanielMaude that’s why it always goes wrong with me! 😂
Also, a lightbulb moment
☝🏻💡
“HIGH HANDS”
I know that I bend over too much. I never knew I did that until I saw my golf swing on video.
But watching this, I now realize I …
1) bend over too much,
2) try to LOWER my hands (and probably need HIGH HANDS), and I also
3) grip the club as close to the end of the grip as I can (in an effort to lengthen the club)
BUT, I have long (35”) arms
🙄
thus, these things I’ve been doing all lead to LOWER hands and early extension.
I am going to try this (stand more upright, HIGH HANDS and choke down a bit on the grip to SHORTEN the club) in the X-Golf simulator on Monday, and see if I can “exaggerate it, then dial it back” 😉
Thank you 🙏🏻
All the best Parski, hope it helps
Great vid Danny! Wouldn’t have thought to aim more right to get rid of the slice. Cheers mate!
Pleasure Fakhri
Happy to help 👍
I wish you were in Australian Danny. I would so be getting lessons from you.
It’s on the bucket list to come over and visit family
Great video, makes a lot of sense. So even though your feet with driver are aimed right of target (closed stance), I assume you still aim the club face to the target (not open)?
Start there yes and play around with it until you see the ball moving right to left
Great video Danny!!! Question: With driver, set up is to the right, but is face of driver towards target for the draw? And the swing path is matching your feet and shoulder alignment? Thanks in advance... Brian
Hi Brian, so entire body is aiming to the right and the club face is closed to the club path but not so much that it is aiming left of target
@@DanielMaude
Thanks my friend for the quick response.
Tricky to explain in words but will try and do it in images
I took this out to the course today and boy, my fairway shots we’re unbelievable. I still haven’t quite got my driver with confidence (am a born slicer methinks). Quick question, if poss, is it also high hands with driver? Thanks for allowing us to share your lesson and as always, thanks Danny … 😊
If it helps Robin then yes 👌
@@DanielMaude thanks Danny, that’s me now this side of the ‘Turkey and mince pies’, but will persevere and experiment after. Wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas … thanks for your amazing content and inspirational ‘vicarious’ support!
@@DanielMaude Played 9 this morning. Out of 7 drives 4 were draws, with a real increase in distance, the last 3 the slice tried to creep back … but it’s real progress so thank you! Now I just need to check out your chipping video(s) 😂
Impressive!!!!
Will Try it All 👍
Danny. It's no wonder why you have so many subscribers! Great video. I have one question though. In the driver setup, do you line up the shoulders along the line of the feet or do the shoulders stay parallel with the target line?
You do indeed Mark
Danny, I don’t understand the difference between club path and swing direction. You point out the numbers all the time but I can’t separate them in my brain. Thanks, Leslie
Hi Leslie, something I will clarify on my website
Can you let me know where on the website as I can’t find where you would put it. Thank you
Hi Danny great content when he is changing his stance is the club face on target or in line with his new path?
I hope that makes sense
Happy new year
Aiming in between path and target line
Thank you and yes, extra wrist set at the start is a face opener during the swing
Nice explanation Danny 👍
Thanks Robert, all the best
Hi Danny , quick question when I set up with feet and body to the right to promote the draw path what do you do with club face at address is it squared to target or in line with body so in effect pointing right ?
Close it down from 12:00 to 11:00. Check out the video I’m releasing Saturday as I go into this exact thing in more detail
@@DanielMaude great thanks Danny can’t wait for the video 👍
Very interesting as always with useful tips. Thx 🙏
