Thank you for taking the time to do this video. The 2 things I will be taking away with this info you provided are the pegas clamps and the part about the WD40. I haven't been using it on anything other than a squeaky door or bike chain when I was a kid. You are the first person that said it's a degreaser. I told my husband this and he said he's never heard this either. So when I buy my HF Bauer scoll saw I will be changing out the claps to pegas and buy a can of automotive grease.🎉 Thank you🎉
Mr. Davis, Sir -- I greatly appreciate your posting this video, as it was very helpful. I'm just starting out with woodworking and ordered the Dewalt DW788. THANK YOU!
Thank you for posting this video. It answers a lot of questions. After woodworking for many years- I would recommend getting a top of the line piece of equipment to start with. Anything else you are wasting your hard earned money. Don't start low and plan on upgrading, this is costly. Look for good quality machine and wait for a sale. I just bought a King 21" professional scroll saw from Wood Craft because it was $150 off regular price. Yes, I could have gotten a cheaper saw and later upgraded, but why? I made this mistake with my table saw. Bought a craftsman and then upgraded to a saw stop. Could not sell my craftsman for what it was worth so took a significant loss. So my message is save up for the top of the line in equipment instead of settling for less and later upgrading. In the end you will say to yourself, I should have gotten the upgraded one to start with.
So true about WD-40 being a degreaser. I have told many people that, but some of them - including my own brother - still happily use it for lubrication. Probably because if something is almost/completely dry WD-40 may seem like a lubricator - but only for a very short time. Good video.
Great info, Sterling~! I've been looking at the Dewalt 788 to replace the Craftsman 16" scroll saw that I've been using for YEARS. It was actually my first woodworking tool that my wife bought for me back in 1990. It's been a workhorse, but Sears/Craftsman never improved their blade mounts for pin-less blades. Either way, I guess I'll need to build a display case for it for when my wife asks, "What happened to....?" :-)
Thanks so much, they are great blades, and I say that honestly, they do NOT sponsor me, a lot of people think they do because i talk so highly. but the blades speak for themselves
Great video. Thanks so much for the help and tips for beginners like me. One little FYI though... The new clamp you installed is from Pegas. A Pegasus is a mythical winged horse. ;-)
Thanks so much for watching and for the positive feedback and yes you are correct Scrollsaw claps are not mystical creatures, I will work on my pronunciation 😂
I just picked up a used DW788. I'm wondering if you can tell me whether the head that holds the blade is supposed to be lose on the two arms of the machine? I can rattle them around a fair bit. I'm just wondering if I should have them tight or if some play in that head. I think I have a lot of back to front movement when cutting... It's not an issue when I'm pushing the wood to cut, but when I back off the pressure to make a turn it tends to bump the wood around until I put pressure to start cutting again.
Thank you for a great video. If my blades are breaking, could it be my chuck is too tight? How tight do you get them? I have a porter cable with 5” pinned blades and there is a cap nut on the top quick release so it looks like tension is “pre-set” It really vibrates bad and has done so from the time it was new. I need it to try to reduce the amount of time coping crown mounding. I have a whole house to do and it would be really nice to use the scroll saw vrs the hand saw. Blade recommendation for coping crown mounding? Thanks again! 🙏
try using a piece of carpet between the scrollsaw and the surface it sits on, as far as the blades, it could be many things, forcing the wood, slower than needed speed, or even cheaper blades, I use pegas because of the metal they are made of, just a stronger blade
Thank you... Question, I just got a new Dewalt 788 n had it two months . No reason it just stopped n wouldn't start up again... Took it back n they called me a few days later n said there nothing wrong. I know machines stop for a reason but they told me they didn't do anything too it... Hmmm, any suggestion why it would stop n not restart ? Fuse was ok
Thanks so much Ron, Appreciate you sharing that and appreciate your support, feel free to share you work on my other social medias , i love to see what others are working on
Mytoya2 Not sure what you mean by racing, I would assume you’re talking about chatter or racking, this is common with the bearings going out, and it could be a simple as replacing the bearings, the problem with the bearings is there are so many you don’t know which one it is, locating the correct bearing is the hard part, replacing them are easy
hi Sterling, thanks for the video. I'm new to scroll saws but after I did my research I got a high end machine, 16" King, because I plan to use it quite a bit. One of the first things I did is order the Pegas chuck from Bearwoods. I should have it soon, in the meantime, any tips on installing the new chuck onto my saw? thx
its pretty straight forward, i may have a video on me changing mine, honestly, i cant remember , but you just taking out a screw and replacing with the new chuck, appreciate your feed back and support
The adapters on the bottom is hard to keep on on the portercable scroll saw PCXB340SS the front of saw is so hard to see the adapter on bottom by the time I hook up the top one the bottom loosened up Tn x for your responce
Joseph Grzelak the bar the adapter rides on may be bent or need bending forward to help keep it in place, I know I over tightened my HF scroll saw and it bent it up and slipped until I bent it downward , just a thought

Great video. You said that the bearings may be going bad. Did you change them when you added the Pegas blade chuck?
No, they are in the cover of the arm, i need to replace them for sure.
New at this. Learned much and subbed 👍.
Thanks so much, be sure to share your work, love seeing what others are working on
Thanks for the tips, very good

sorry for the delay, sounds like the bearings are bad, I would upgrade them to the Pegas Chucks , simplest fix
where did you get the knurled blade clamp knobs?
A friend of mine and fellow Scrollsaw, Steve Good, I know he has a downloadable pattern for 3-D printer for a holder
WD-40 is a rust preventative. _Water Displacement Formula 40_ to be exact.
It is not a lubricant.
But it worked
thank you Sir for a great tutorial.subscribed.
Thanks for checking it out, hope to do another one soon
Great video sterling very informative thank you 👍
Appreciate you checking it out, hope it was helpful
Good information Sterling. By the way where do you get you storage tubes? Love the Pegasus blade you gave me last year. Thanks again.
Thanks Gary, I got them at WoodCraft Store , they are actually Pen Tubes for Turned Pens, but i like them for Blades
My love it scroll saw Dewaler

I’ve never seen one do that, but it could’ve been a loose wire that they found, That would be my only guess
Thank you just hope it doesn't do it again.. Really appreicate your informative and helpful videos
Good video, Sterling!
Thanks for watching Live, was fun to see comments as it played

My delta 20inch scrollsaw has started racing when when I cut. Any suggestions on what it could be and how to fix it? Thanks Sterling!

Thanks Tom, hope it helped some
can you adjust the aggresive cut,,,
They are some videos out there, showing how to adjust it, I’ve never attempted it myself, but it is doable
Will that blade adapter work on a porter cable scroll saw?
you would have to check with Pegas, I honestly dont know that answer, so sorry
@@SterlingsWoodcrafts Thank you
Tnx for info I’ll give that a try
Thanks Joseph, My apologies for late response , i never say it til now, All the Best

DeWalt 788 upper arm and lower arm does not line up together what would cause that
could be the bearings in the rocker arm, hard to say without taking apart, bearings are typically first to so, but easy to fix

@@SterlingsWoodcrafts I to busy doing work and overtime so not a lot of time to do project videos...
other than that we both all good...
I get my patterns at wood pricks
So you work on Smaller projects, Cool, Thanks for watchin Bo
Is it okay to use 286346-00 instead of the DW788 carbon brush? Where can I buy this? I would be happy if you could let me know.
Apologies for the delay, I would think any woodworking supply store, My go to is Klingspors, or Woodcrafts. Rockler as well. Hope this helps.

Thank you!
Hi Sterling, my delta 20 is racing when I turn it on. Do you know what I can be or how I can fix it? I really I want to keep it.
Not real sure on that, could be bad bearings , but it would be hard to say with out seeing it , hope it works out for you

Why is my prtercable saw so hard to use painless blades ready to give up tnx
Don't give up, whats it doing ? if its adopters being used for the Pinless blades ? want to help but need a little more info
How do you got rid of the dust

thanks good explanation

The mentioned manufacturer of blades and chucks is "Pegas", not "Pegasus"
You are correct, appreciate you checking it out and your feed back Ronald
Why do my 5 inch blades seem too short? It's like the upper arm and lower arm are to far apart.
what if the blades don''t have a number?
not sure what you mean, I have never seen that before, or maybe I am misunderstanding the question, give me a little more
i missed it
its ok, you can watch it over and over if you want Ken, lol, hate you missed the live tho
