Howard is exactly right. The playoff expansion has minimized rivalry games and conference championships. It used to be difficult for a 1 loss team to play for a title, now we have 3/4 teams still alive with multiple losses and another team that lost to northern Illinois.
Still honestly refreshing, let it sink in. I was fun rooting for your team to go undeafted every year, knowing that one lose could ruin you. But it just wasn't fun when you lose early in the season, and it still effected you going undefeated; and winning your conference. And this allows everyone to have a real chance to win a CFP. This actually might work better than intended with how NIL recruiting is going.
They are worthy. But the buckeyes have beat better teams this year and texas hasn't played a team like they buckeyes. I truly believe we will resting players in the fourth quarter
We are seeing the separation of Ohio State's goals - and the value of the Michigan game. Seems weird to say this at the foot of a current 4 game streak, but I wonder if this staff has other aspirations that don't really include that last game of the regular season.
I believe you have nailed it. The Rivalry is not anything t- day, outside of ole-timer fans, such as myself since 67'. And in some ways I would like it to die-out. Especially since we have gone to 18 teams w/I the Big 10.
@@MarthaBennett-t8u this is the problem with this logic, Ohio St and TTUN are forever linked. This isn't just some old head stuff these two schools have genuine beef with each other, telling both alumni that "it doesn't matter because CFB is basically the NFL now" is pointless. By this logic Ohio St should just leave the B1G all together if you want the rivalry to "die out", that's the one thing I'll agree with the old folks on. The days of genuine rivalry are slowly starting to die out, just abolish conferences as a whole then.
This man apparently does not know history or tradition or the greatest rivalry in sports. And he wants to forget about it College football i would agree has lowered the standards of play. Smith and players in general cheat more than you fan shake a stick at. And the sportsmanship is at an all time low.But keep selling it.
He knows it very well. The fact of the matter is the rivalry started because back in the day, the Associated press voted on the National Championship winner, and it usually was the winner of the Rose Bowl. That final game usually determined who went to the Rose Bowl, and the loser had no shot at the National Championship. All he's alluding to is the fact that having 12 teams in a playoff means that it's not the end of the world because the National Championship is still attainable. Im 100% sure they will still want to beat Michigan but the ultimate goal is the National Championship period.
@quentin6233 After Michigan was taking loss after loss, many Michigan was not prioritizing Ohio State as much as OSU was prioritizing the game. Michigan changed that. Don't know when the rivalry took off but it really got intense during the Hayes and Bo years. Many feel that that game is every bit as important as the national championship.
@@rickmerritt128 it is that important, any buckeye "fan" that tries to downplay it the rivalry isn't actually a fan. The goal should always be to beat TTUN no matter the sport, idc how much has changed in the landscape of CFB the standard is still the same.
Gotta be the aggressor and make Texas stop our talent exactly like last 2 games Make fine adjustments PRN but that's it Buckeye coaching staff listen to me : Do not over think and DO NOT brain seizure ala ichigan Do not react to them Make THEM , THEM, MAKE THEM (Chevy Chase ref) react to us Got it
Don’t be a homer for a second. Do you actually think Texas will score the most points against Ohio State all season? Plus, how do you explain Texas giving up 1000yds over the last two games?
@surfaceWorx-w21 Ohio State has the top rated defense in the nation.7 of the eleven starters are projected first round picks. Have you even watched them play? Do you realize that Ohio State played two all conference running backs in the first two rounds and both guys were beaten and bruised sitting on the bench by games end. There is no way soft Texas puts 42 points on that defense. More likely would be your starting quarterback and running back will be out of the game by middle of fourth quarter. Ohio State hits like Sherman tanks. You are in for a rude awakening!
@@kenyattathompson6685 Had to hit me with lowest of blows.Touche! That is a distant memory and we will focus on them next year. They are no longer relevant NOW!

Michigan just 3 short weeks ago stopped the buckeyes in their tracks.
Go bucks
They were stopped pretty good last game of regular season 😆 vs Michigan

I think it's fine that the players treat the UM game as special, but the coaches should gameplan as if it's another game.
