None of the Grandmothers I've known served these things! My Grandparents were cooking during the depression and WW2....way too fancy and out of reach for the common folk! Not to mention there were no crockpots then. Rhese recipes look delicious but many are out of my budget range. All except the Porcupine Meatballs. I 've never made them in the Crockpot but it has always been a go to favorite! I hope the younger generation's have fun exploring and sampling these recipes!
This was so inspirational for me... just the titles of the dishes brought back memories. I cooked and baked all afternoon... oh the meal we enjoyed🥰 Thank you so much💕
I still make porcupine meatballs. I got the recipe from my dad. I also use my crockpot a lot especially now that the cold weather is settling in. My grandmother didn't own a crockpot and neither did my parents
I’m watching this to try to tire myself out, but have to stop 'cause I’m hungry now. I’m four recipes in and I have to Google them to add to my possible meal ideas file. Will pick this back up again tomorrow.
I had to stop the video half way through to make something to eat LOL!!! I've eaten almost every one of these dishes. My Grandmother made many of them but not in a crockpot. She was born in 1900 and was an amazing cook; I loved everything she made. The French dishes my Mom made and she did use a crockpot. I've cooked 95% of them using a crockpot, stove top or oven. I LOVE German & Thai food and am lucky enough to have both types of restaurants around. I truly enjoyed this video, thank you very much for it!!!
Many years ago, I'm 67 now, l worked in a truck stop of all places, but it was located in a part of Kansas with a large German population. Germans and Russians populated that general area of the state many years prior. My boss at that time was German himself. We would marinade beef in the walk-in fridge for up to a week for making Saurbraten ( hope l spelled that right). It would be served with gingersnap gravy and mashed potatoes. Those were the days. You mention Saurbraten now and nobody knows what you're talking about.
We make porccupine meatballs in pressure cooker to today. My mom was the pressure cooker queen from spare ribs to chop suey. She did not own a slow cooker. I have both. Only use pressure cooker for my briskett
Canned soups didn't contain high levels of sodium unlike today. Plus, parents, especially mom's, voiced their displeasure about anything that was not healthy for their families.
You can't make any of these dishes today and expect it to taste the same - All the food now a day is messed the hell up - Nothing like it was back in the day - Back then, you could smell the delicious aromas down the sidewalks - Just about everything was homemade - When we were kids, we couldn't wait to get to the school lunches - You could smell it coming out into the hallways - What they have done to the food now, you younger people have been cheated, big time!
Maybe it depends on where you live? They taste the same when I make them. I live on a farm in a small town though. Neighbors aren't close enough to be able to smell what they cooking. I would love that though!
When it comes to beans, doesn't matter what kind, they need to be doctored up with brown sugar, bbq sauce, diced onions, minced garlic and yellow mustard. Actually I prefer to make my own from canned white canoli beans sauted in diced up hog jawl bacon and tomato sauce and the ingredients above, most of the baked beans you buy today seem to be full of dried beans their so hard. With carrots, my family likes baby carrots stir fried with garlic and ginger until slightly tender then simmered in chicken broth and baby spinach. One final question, who's Julia chef? Did you mean Julia Childs?
Who says a crockpot has to be electric? It's just a large ceramic pot with a lid that can be used on top of a wood stove in a lower temp area off to the side.
What’s the one dish your grandma made that you’d never eat today?
Tripe 😢😢
Brain soup.🤢🤮
Liver and onions
Brain & kidneys
Rhubarb pie.

I loved when Mom made cabbage rolls, with the tomato sauce........yum.😊

Cooking is a soul sucking endeavor! No truer words are spoken in my life! 🙂🙃😉☺️
Wow I learn more about meals they use to cook back in the day

Ha ha! I had to stop it too and make something to eat. Then I watched the rest of it while I was eating. Great video with great childhood memories.

I LOVE Sauerbraten and gingersnap gravy..... I forgot about the gravy, thanks for mentioning it!
Sorry but if you've had the baked beans, those sounds you're hearing are probably not wedding bells.
I love crockpot s

Amazing that in the USA people eats everything with mashed potatoes, well, in Brazil everything has rice and beans in our meals.
muito bom
I think about that a lot. It's interesting how each culture has their own staple food that's served with almost anything.
I haven't seen a whole lot of Forgotten anything, there are quite a few good recipes though.

Delicious and nutritious ❤
My grandmothers never used a crockpot in their life. Nor a microwave or coffee maker.
Jeez im starving told my friend today im going to eat all winter like its 1975 and then i found this
Cooking is NOT soul-sucking! I use my creative side & talents when cooking
This seems to be more about casseroles instead of crockpots.

Interesting that beef is so popular in a crockpot. Mostly because microwaving left beef tough and inedible.
Wonder what recipes in it? I don't have time to watch to find out>
KzFC is 11 herbs n spices not 13
What the heck do you mean ," cooking is a soul sucking endeavor "???? Boy are you wrong. This guy is trying to be too "hip "😮😮
I think he just doesn't like to cook. Boy, he's sure missing out!
Ydo
You don't have to stand by the stove ou
Aaamish??? These pronunciations always put me off. Amish people don't use electricity, so how can they use crockpots??
They probably just slow cooked it on the fire. Lol
Maybe it was a wind or pedal powered Amish adaptation?
Who says a crockpot has to be electric? It's just a large ceramic pot with a lid that can be used on top of a wood stove in a lower temp area off to the side.
I believe that is why the episode showed the baking preparation in it
They use propane or use electricity generated by windmills.
Where are the crockpots? They are just casseroles!
They're both.
Baked beans on a romantic nite isnt prolly the best idea lmao. Pfffftttttttt
Lots of Gas 🤢🤢🤢
Aim-ish :(
