We are still on summer vacation so I am not going to hang answering comments super much today! Vacation has been super nice, we just got back home from Sweden, Norway and Finnish lapland. I made a video about the trip and if I am not super lazy I will get it out tomorrow on Beyond the Press channel :D Remember to enjoy the summer! There is enough time to watch TH-cam videos after summer remember to spend time outdoors while the weather is nice :D
I can do both Lauri. I have been sitting outside managing my smoker every thursday making meats for the week, watching youtube in between managing the fire and chopping wood for it to size.
After "rocking" various materials, it would be interesting to see if you could "unrock" them by soaking them in water. It would also be interesting to see how LN2 affects the compressibility of stuff.
I was thinking the opposite to LN2, heat it with a torch. Maybe try coal and heating it red hot while under pressure to see if we can create homemade diamonds?
I'm wondering about commercial applications. Want banana ice cream? Just take your banana puck and a nutmeg grater, and have at it. Curious if heavily compressed food is used in the food industry given mass:volume ratios affect storage and transportation costs. I know products like juices are already often reconstituted from concentrates, and this is just another way to concentrate even further.
I would like to "see/buy" socks in a store that actually are not like death compression sleeves on normal human legs/feet. lol I swear they're all made for bird/rodent legs or maybe smallest of asian people? (not saying/meaning they're bad) but clothing has gone to the dumps and doesn't fit/hasn't fit for about 18 years.... all the while I've been the same height, weight and size measurement range. same for shoes/boots and more. getting any clothes/shoes that fit = total crap shoot...
A small amount of moisture or even a small piece of fresh banana will probably help bonding it together to a solid rock.(at least after letting it dry out after pressing)
I worked with textile raw materials for over 20 years and in my experience the textiles that tend to harden most easily are Acrylic and Low melt fiber.
This reminds me of those "pellets" of soil you can get to sow plants in. Dried and compressed from the factory, they come as a solid less than a cm tall disk, but throw them in water and they expand to a height of about 5-6cm.
If he’d remembered the plate at the bottom then doubtful there’s have been tears…possibly after a dowsing they’d still have been perfectly usable and serviceable microfibres cloths
This made me think of a towel I once got as a present. It was compressed to look like a hockey puck, like the socks! Took a bit of effort to untangle it, but it was a full sized towel!
I watched a show, Modern Marvels, about Chocolate. One phase removes the oil by pressing it out through filters, and the solid cakes that are left over, are ground into cocoa powder to make cakes & brownies!
alien a: have they discovered the technology to turn bananas into rocks? alien b: not yet alien a: ok. let's give them another 1000 years. we'll come back later.
5:22 And what if, instead of squeezing out the compressed with a press from the reverse side, simply drill the same (wide) hole of equal diameter? Then: a) it will not be necessary to turn the base upside down and squeeze in another direction b) (and most importantly) the pressed product will not be destroyed due to the fact that you squeeze it with a thin rod, which almost always destroys the product. You just need to make the same part in diameter that you put in the cylinder and squeeze it all the way through. The resulting briquettes from anything will be stronger, and it will be easier to remove.
I wonder if you could make grain pucks out of wheat, oats, or even different flour types for long term storage. Perhaps you could find a more compact way to store muslei for Sven Yrvinds tiny boats!!!!
When you try and make rocks from food, you need some kinda of binder, like maybe rice paste. It makes a glue. Then cute them. And BAM! Banana rock! Lol
How about a collaboration with DemolitionRanch where you compress things like you do and see how "bulletproof" those things are? You are already part of the Bunker Branding family.
I've always wondered why you say the "hoo-draulic press channel" and today I learned that in Finnish, "y" is pronounced like "oo". So with your accent it makes total sense.
imagine if crushing apples at 3000 bars would turn them into the most scrumptious fruit that mankind ever tasted but we missed the oportunity to discover that because it was a little dirty.
When you make these 'rocks' from food, how long will they sit before starting to rot? Or are they just too dry for anything to happen until they are again hydrated?
Suggestion: try to turn an Activated Carbon water filter, into a rock.... or maybe a diamond! lol Preferably the kind that are _already_ in a semi-solid cylinder (for an in-line sink water purifier). Only because ones like Britta, use a lot of small granules stove they're gravity fed filters, and some have plastic beads as well (not sure why), so having to sift all of that crap out first just seems like unnecessary extra work. 😊
throw those pucks into water and see how far the original material returns to shape when exposed to water, maybe even throw them in the pressure chamber

Sock rock! Hooray!
That idea was bananas.
Glad you're having a vacation and safe travels.
Please post the travel video! That would be a dream trip.
My banana turns to rock on it's own...

Rice might be fun to rehydrate.

What's LN2?

Id like to see you put the compressed socks in a bucket of water to see if it puffs up eventually
stop begging
@@_Super_Hans_ lol whAts your problem buddy

Unfortunately the socks were damaged when they were compressed as he used too many pairs at once.
They did it with towels back in the day
Banana chips are usually coated in oil; it might cause them to stick together less than other dry fruits.
They often have a lot of sugar in with them, too.

We've all heard of hockey pucks, but now you've made the first sockey puck! 😂
😂you win internet if the day
That's so funny. I was thinking that too.
I was combing through the comments to see if I was the only one that thought this.
"That is all for today..." [as he holds a hockey puck made from black socks]
You should try a finnish army crispbread, will it turn to rock?
"can you turn shredded meat back into loafs of meat"
(10)
💜 Rather than rocks, you're making hockey pucks. I'd love to see how they work on the ice XD 💜
New type of MRE fruit biscuits.
Now that's some proper hardtack
“Just add 150 ton here” 😂 I think I know what I’ll be short of from this how-to video 😅 4:40
You should have poured water on the squished micro fiber to see what would have happened.
If he’d remembered the plate at the bottom then doubtful there’s have been tears…possibly after a dowsing they’d still have been perfectly usable and serviceable microfibres cloths

7:55 “it’s not rock hard…it feels like…”
I’d go with the term “crusty”
😂
It would be cool to see different kinds of socks in there, like wool, nylon, polyester, etc. They might produce some interesting looking pucks.
I watched a show, Modern Marvels, about Chocolate. One phase removes the oil by pressing it out through filters, and the solid cakes that are left over, are ground into cocoa powder to make cakes & brownies!
the ending really rocked my socks off
The Apple rock would make nice cup coasters lol. Would just need a coat of resin to prevent it rotting
If peanut butter can be compressed into diamond, then surely a banana can be made into a rock. Perhaps a Finnish bäänäänää.... ?
7:37 (S/H)ock-ey puck! :D
(Sock-ey/Hockey puck) ;P

You should call this “Will it Puck” make hockey pucks out of unique ingredients and have somebody take a shots with them and give you a rating! 😂❤
HPC is the only science channel that I trust 100%.
Title: Turning a Banana into a rock
Thumbnail: Making my hand invisible with a hydraulic press
I made it bit less odd and seems that people click it now more :D Thanks for the tip!
@@HydraulicPressChannel I respect the yellow safety line
They probably get hot in the process, but I wonder what happens if you add additional heat to the items.
2016: Can we crush diamonds?
2023: We're gonna turn a banana into rock.
It may take a bit of effort, but I think it would be interesting to try turning 'cotton candy' back into sugar...
I wonder if you could make grain pucks out of wheat, oats, or even different flour types for long term storage.

Applerock looks like the pie my grandmother used to make.
In dutch: "Bedankt oma, lekkere appelrotsjes!"
Banana: (exists)
HPC: "Let's use it to cut things, then turn it into a rock".
"Banana into rock" is a statement i never imagined i would hear
Turning an apple in to a rock
"Rock your socks": You're Doing It Wrong™.
When you try and make rocks from food, you need some kinda of binder, like maybe rice paste. It makes a glue. Then cute them. And BAM! Banana rock! Lol
That's school lunch sorted!
I love your videos. ❤
You invented a new Finnish apple snack, should really taste it 😂
Looks like it would fit into my lunch box
best way!
thats what she said
@@johart309 Brilliant!
"let's see which fruit we can turn into rock"
rock magic `(°o°)'
No banana was harmed in the making of this video.

Lmao, for real, we'll never know
Holy socks! The last one with the socks really surprised me. It looks like you could use it for a hockey puck.
He should save it until Winter and play hockey with that.
A sockey puck?
"If you want to make rock out of fruit, I strongly recommend apples"
just my everyday problem - making rocks out of socks 😂
What if you after compressing the microfiber towels throws the puck in to water. Will it expand to towels again? Could be a nice travel hack.
You didn't turn the socks into a rock; you turned them into a "sockey" puck. Ha ha ha!
“Like a tennis ball…” Can you make two half-sphere tool molds to make a ball? Find out what can roll or bounce.
The Finnish army packs their socks with a hydraulic press. Maximum volume usage.
At 1:39, it's funny how the metal at the bottom looks like it's a low framerate compared to the metal rod
Have you pressed powder to make a solid like they make aspirin tablets?
2:04 the first known sample of *_"Nannerite"_*
Soooo... Laur made a puck out of socks?
Finns priorities XD
For some reason the way you say banana reminds me of minions lol and I have no idea why. I think I heard a clip one time of them saying it.
Where does the air escape from? You need the air to escape for more compressed material.
8:15 Socky Puck! 🤣
Should have done the towel rock first to clean the cylinder :)
The added sugar amount in banana chips is like 40% so thats the reason it binds so well together.
I think this is how they make those compressed towels where you add water and the towel expands.
Finally, a banana for scale!
When you make these 'rocks' from food, how long will they sit before starting to rot? Or are they just too dry for anything to happen until they are again hydrated?
So that's what The Rock has been cooking
Thank you, next time I need to turn fruit into rock I will remember to use apples instead of bananas.
When you've compressed fabric like that, add water and it will expand a ton
Are you using the max pressure on these. That might help if your not
7:53 Not rock hard, sock hard......I'll let myself out....
I think you should make the discs out of various materials and see if we can guess what they started as
What on earth has Lauri created?? Haha. All the water squeezed out!
Ever consider Levi materials in the press?
Please more videos on ROCK making !! Freestyler !! ROCK the microphone !! Great work !
@4:10 You could make a new product, Apple Disks 😀 You can lick them, chew them, nibble on them, or boil them 😀
Now that’s how to pack a holiday suitcase!
Today I learned that hockey pucks are actually made from compressed socks.
You’ve invented a safety ice hockey puck.
At the beginning of the video I had one thought. "At what point is he going to forget the bottom piece."
Less anticlimactic than Icelanders throwing a banana onto lava!
I know how I'm packing my socks next vacation.
When you and your friends want to go play Hockey and you can't find a Puck,,,, You got one there! LOL
An apple a day won't keep the Press-man away.
🍎🔨
Socks worked quite well because, the heat generated, would have melted the sock solid to some extent.

I just thought about why I was watching socks being crushed by big machines.
But can you turn dryed rocks to just regular rocks?
It would seem the rock maker has rocked your socks. Though it's a kind of squishy rock now.
Mix the dried fruits with the wet versions to see if it acts like a binder or sometime.
How to make hockey puck out of socks... and here we go!
throw those pucks into water and see how far the original material returns to shape when exposed to water, maybe even throw them in the pressure chamber
if theres like, a 10000 ton press out there, along with a really strong chamber, i bet that could rock just about anything
Best way to efficiently make use of your sock drawer is to turn the socks in to pucks. Work every time.
7:49 - sockey puck
How about trying to dry socks in the press?
I neva can git enough of yer accent.and da press is wicked awesome too. More giggles from yer lady would be fun
What would happen if you pour water over the compressed socks?
Thanks for another great video.
