    I have 2 DR650s. I ran the carb kit on my 1st one for a bit, with the airbox cut and an FMF pipe. It was loud, especially if it needed repacking of the pipe. I was riding too many miles for that. I use stock pipes now. Ti GSXR1000 pipes are rare and expensive now.
    Now, one has the allen-head screws, an adjustable OEM overseas needle, an extended idle-mix screw, and a snorkelectomy. The other has an adjustable KTM 640 needle and the other stuff. The breather filter has been moved away from the airbox opening.
    They both run great near sea level. Winter time is made better with a slight idle-mix adjustment. For higher altitudes, I could remove the airbox door. They can be returned to stock pretty easily.
    A lot of other needles don't have a great taper, or they can wear out the needle jet quickly. This is basically a simple upgrade that makes the stock carb easier to adjust for elevation and temp, with a bit more airflow from the snorkelectomy. I rip wheelies in 1st and 2nd.

    I did the Procycle kit and have had no problems yet. 5000km lots of offroad.
    I followed Adv Oz's video for install.
    Love the power gains! Its like a totally different bike.

    • @843292
      @843292 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dave, you said you followed Adventure OZ's video for the install. Did you clip your throttle spring? If so, how much? In the Adv. Oz vid, I think I remember them taking off 1.5 cm, but all the other material I've found says - if you're gonna do it, only take off 2 springs (~ 2-3 mm).

    • @mrdavesos
      @mrdavesos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes , if i remember correctly i followed every thing Adv oz did.
      I think with all the experience those boys have i trust them. lol
      The procycle kit really unleashed the beast.
      I found that i lost 20km/hr off the top end but the DR is pretty uncomfortable up there anyway and 140km/hr is lots for me.
      Cheers

    • @843292
      @843292 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! The fastest I've ever had my bike is 140 km/hr (87 mph). But here's what makes me wonder if I should clip my spring - I live at 3,800 feet with frequent jaunts up to 7500 feet. The average elevation Down Under is 330 m (1083 feet.) I'm not sure what effect elevation has on a carburetor, so I'm not sure if the potential issues with clipping the spring would be exacerbated at higher elevations. Anyway, that's what I'm trying to figure out.

      @@843292 elevation effects the air/fuel mixture on a carburetor. As you increase in elevation the air becomes thinner but the fuel remains the same so you end up with a richer mixture.

    Bought mine,rode it a few hundred miles, stretched it out on the highway and it was good for about 96mph.went home, backed off the valves a couple thousandths, took it for a ride,105 mph all day long with me on it 165lbs.thats the only power mod I've done and that was 20,000 miles ago.

    I got the ProCycle Breathe Easy Kit on my DR650 & cut out the top of the air box like on the instructions but I had the same problem with the secondary breather filter. I ended up making a divider to go between it & the airbox that way there not so close to each other & so far its been working good.

  • @dexterquincy1
    @dexterquincy1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    In one of Adventure Oz`s vids, he talks about changing that filter out for a much larger aftermarket filter.

    If you notice the area around where the carb draws air is so cramped and the carb needs to draw a lot of air in order to 'breath'. What I did was to fabricated a side cover for the box with a big hole and covered it with a wire screen to prevent debris from being sucked in, then cover the original hole on top of the box. The space then was left solely for the breather filter. With this it eliminated my surging at high speed. I am also using a procycle carb kit.

    • @Gamet36
      @Gamet36  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering about that surge. I just figured I didn't adjust the needle correctly. I was going to tear it down during the winter but perhaps I'll do this instead.

    • @nordic9570
      @nordic9570 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gamet36 - you adjust the needle only once, that is when you get the correct idle mixture and rpm for a specific terrain elevation. It has a very minimal effect during high rpm operation, if I'm right :)

    I thought it was starving for fuel. Going to have check the position of that vent. What gets me is that killing the engine when paying tolls, every single time i had to give it full throttle for it to start.
    Well check position of that in the morning.

    2 questions 1). Where did you get the bag/luggage carrier and 2). How many miles are on the Bike? Dealer told me not to do any mods until 2,000 miles and I am there now same bike as yours though, 2015. Funny I have the same Luggage rack!

    • @Gamet36
      @Gamet36  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got the bag from Revzilla I believe and I have 9000 mi as of today. I waited til my 12mo warranty expired before I did any engine mods. That way if I had a problem with it, they couldn't say it was because of the mod. I don't think it matters for the mileage if you want to do the mods. Adventure Oz did his before he hit 1000 I think.
