how was a metalworking shop in 1880 ?

    this is a metalworking shop from the XIX century.
    The shop power was supplied by a steam engine through a horizontal shaft at the roof, which i turn supplied power to every machine by belts.

    We had a belt driven lathe in our workshop, it was a really old thing, the same with the shaper and the press, the saw was a really old thing, although it did have a water pump, I repaired it a couple of times. The workshop was in a textile spinning mill in Braintree, Essex.

    Nice, shouldn't there be some vintage safety posters warning about the loss of fingers and wearing eye protection? Oooops, that was long before OSHA!!
