Modified Lexus ISF - I Never Should Have Sold Mine!

- I got the pleasure of jumping back behind the wheel of a Lexus ISF, a car that was once very familiar to me. Only this Lexus ISF one has a whole host of modifications, some of which I wanted to do to mine. And oh boy do I regret selling my Lexus ISF now!

selling the ISF for 130i, maybe the dumbest move
im a bmw guy who loves the small practical ones & i have too agree.
Thing is though, it costs 1/3 as much, is manual, uses a lot less fuel and is more practical for what I need a car for. I’d rather have the money saved towards a house than an expensive ISF. I’m content with owning a 10 grand car
@@KiwiCarLifefacts bro, sold my is350 to get a gti for the same reason 💪
@@KiwiCarLifeyou only sold it for 10 they go for $20k plus in the US!
@@aceaceaceaceacehes talking about the 130i thats 10k
That V8 pinging off the rev limiter is truly an amazing sound. Absolutely insane car. Great video, as always!
It's awesome aye!
JDM ISF owner here from Scotland, yes mate you need an ISF in your life again!
I would love one!
Great video! I just purchased my 09 ISF back in January. I find it super interesting that almost every single owner who ever sold theirs, tend to end up regretting that decision in due time. If I sell mine, i definitely want a facelifted 10+ or an RCF for the LSD mainly. Open diff is definitely a bit slouchy to drive. The open diff just never kicks out the way it just kicks out at 5:16. Cant wait to see the ISF back on the channel soon!
I am on my second ISF, the first was near stock, my current is FBO. I absolutely love it however after having owned many jdm imports over the years I wan't something manual and turbo again. I all ready have a car I do a lot of kms in for work and can't afford to keep three cars on the road - so I would have to sell the ISF. I just can't bring myself to advertise for sale just yet, especially as I have spent over $20K on it in prevantative maintenance and quality desirable modifications.
Yeah that's why I originally sold my ISF - I got an offer I couldn't refuse and wanted another manual, and to clear up some funds as the ISF is 3 times the price of my 130i.
I bought mine in Feb, a 2011. Guy who sold it to me just bought a 2014. Barely been 3 months
Haha i bought mine last year. A couple of weeks later the previous owner ends up getting an 08 ISF with a gs450 diff
@@gavinr9107 I'm at this crossroad at the moment lol, problem with the old jdm manual turbos now is if you sell it's hard to get back in with price of them & they're getting old, I want an isf but will I have regrets lol
That was so smooth and the delivery of the video is very satisfying! thank you
Thanks man!
Its just insane how nice it sounds and shifts also quite fast. Just stunning and amazing car with timeless look! Wish I would own such a beast someday...
Yeah man it must have some kind of trans tune coz this one shifted great
Awesome review, stoked you loved it so much, next time, it'll be supercharged ;)
I'm scared already!
where did you get the rearview mirror charm?
You going with the Elate kit?
@@ing8404 if he gets it into the 500s, absolutely. He's pretty close now, fingers crossed
@@NZ_Lexus_IS-F He's pretty close considering it's not tuned yet. I imagine it'll be a good rival to the RR kit. The build quality already looks 10 times better.
These things are still gorgeous. Love how understated they are. You'd never guess there's a beast under the bonnet. Really does seem like the endgame of the Accord Type S
Yeah well I upgraded from an Accord to this to r
Makes me wanna keep mine. The induction noise of the V8 is addicting!
It’s so awesome aye
Love my white 2010 ISF. Will probably keep it forever.
Nice man!
This is insane, I think definitely following your footsteps after my accord for one of these oh my goodness
Yeah man would definitely recommend!
Dude, you need to get another one because your ISF reviews are really some of the best. You give a real owner/“hooner” style POV.
Haha thanks man, just can’t justify spending this much on one though. They’re good bang for buck, but I wanna spend like 10k on a car and save for a house rather than 30k on a car. And I’ve already owned one so kinda been there done that
I thought about a isf as a replacement for my 370z but prices are surprisingly very high also With this car just a catback and headers will set you back like around 6k lol
Funny enough, that's what I came from as well.
I'd say it's a worthy upgrade! But yes everything is more expensive as you go from a 4cyl Honda to 6cyl Nissan to 8cyl Lexus
@@NZ_Lexus_IS-F I’ve owned my mkiv Supra for nie on 25 years and I’m from NZ.Everytime I see a kiwi in a IS-F I want one.
@@corynhughes7782 Wild that you say that too, 3ish years ago I heard that a few of the Supra guys were changing into IS-Fs. I don't know where they ended up but that's awesome, it's a fantastic car. For me it's was everything I expected and I've loved having it for the last couple of years.
@@NZ_Lexus_IS-F I always wanted to stay with the brand.I love the reliability and engineering. My Supra is a drive to the track and drive home car and has seen probably 70 odd trackdays over the years. One of my favourite racecars is the CCSP IS-F that raced the Nurburgring ring 24 hour.
buy the cheapest one in NZ and make it a series! Also to make it more epic supercharge it!
That would be really interesting, however money doesn't grow on trees. A lot of you guys forget I don't have the budget of Tavarish so can't just buy whatever I want
@@KiwiCarLife fair dreams are free.

I know man I think I might have to
You might need a wash cloth after that drive! Lol
Still do watching it back!
@@KiwiCarLife😂
The more the model the more the tweaks the engineers put to the IS-F.
You get the LSD and the steering assist to improve the handling with the suspension tweaks to improve the driving experience also all while not touching the motor.
FBO mods fully wake it up it seems.
Yeah for sure.
It's a very fun car. I am a Japanese IS F owner.
Lovely!
I regret selling my isf too😢
Me too!
It seems like everyone who sold their ISF always end up regretting it lol.
Hopefully you get back into one again
Yeah I’d like to they’re great
I plan on going FBO with mine one day
That would be sick man, saw u did some MASSIVE #11's down cambridge lol
How do you always seem to review the cars I'm looking to buy. Are you reading my search history! 😧
Haha maybe!
Actually induction noise is far less annoying than exhaust sound to your surroundings. 4:39
And ye i've been eying one of these for a while, but I've had such terrible luck with finding decent mechanics that I just can't risk it.
Yeah but this also has headers and exhaust so don't get me wrong it's loud haha. I'm sure you'll find one, it's a lexus after all there's not much to go wrong
@@KiwiCarLife My daily driver being a turbo, I really miss my naturally aspirated accord now. Honestly, you can't beat NA for driving fun.
Mechanic? Lol. I have one with 252k KM and it's never done anything outside of oil changes, brake pads, tyres.. It's not a E92 M3 man, go for it. They are really damn reliable unless you beat the piss out of them while cold. Just check valley plate has been done and you are good but even that is very easy to do
@@dill6078 as someone with two accords and a civic that always broke down, i have bad luck with cars.
@@The_Noticer. These will never leave you stranded, trust. They are still using the engine 16 years later, if it was unreliable the kings of unreliability would've changed engines years ago
Biggest ISF issues are water pump in 08/09 and valley plate leak which is nothing. Find one with decent service history and you are good to go for easily 400k km
These can be picked up for low 20s occasionally, definitely one of the best cars for the price.
People are to busy looking at overpriced Fords and Holdens and miss these gems!
I recently started looking at them again after I seen one of these slightly modded and (like this one) it was a freak..
Most I’ve seen are around 26k and above. Still quite an expensive car. These are so awesome but I feel you can find a still very fun car for less
@@KiwiCarLife yeah true! My 09 Fuga v8 was legendary 😁
@@KiwiCarLifejust got one for 21 and it’s tuned with an exhaust 😍. Nothing has exploded yet so fingers crossed it’s a goody
nice cars i would like one myself but rare over here in the uk compared to the germans
Oh really not many around over there?
I've only seen 2 going about but ive seen 3 advertised for sale
Rare everywhere man. Here in Australia there was a little over 2000 made, majority being 08 and 09 which are far less desirable
@@dill607808/09 is literally the same exact car minus a mechanical LSD, minor suspension tweaks, and aesthetics trim pieces like the gauge cluster and headlights which do nothing for performance. You can get an 08/09 for thousands less and just add an LSD and you pretty much have the same car for MUCH cheaper.
POWER!!!
YES!
That sound is actually insane.
It's awesome aye - tried to give you guys a good taste of the sound the whole video haha
The ISF has gauge cluster has a gauge cluster like the LFA the RCF and GSF have gauges that look like the ISf.
The first lot of ISF’s gauges look quite different
What an absolute beast!
It most certainly is!
I’m sure we’ll see more and more people saying they regret selling anything with a 2UR-GSE in it lol I have my RCF and I want to add an ISF to my collection

i even told you on an older video just go fbo on the isf before you sold it

😮 u sold ur ISF ? Whyyyyyy!!!!! U need 2 get another .....planned to do too upgrade from my IS 350
Too much money tied up in a car, I’m happy with just a 10 grand car
W204 C63 wagon please
Already done one! Compared it with the ISF, RS4 and M3
no chance you get into an IS or GS350 to avoid the ISF tax?
personally i’m looking for a GS430 or 460. the F sport cars are amazing but i think you’re skipping right over the perfect value point of these cars. Give the UZ engines a go, not just the UR!
Nah I’ve driven the old 430’s and 460’s and they’re no where near on the level of this. Main issue is the transmission, it’s only a gear limiter. They’re not proper F cars.
With BMW you can buy a “lesser” model and the ZF6, ZF8 or manual will be still sensationally good even with a smaller engine, but Lexus the only ones worth buying if you want performance is the proper F products
Haha regular GS is nowhere near any true F car
Wonder if it be cheaper to supercharge and def swap with a lsd in a is350?? Still could be pretty sick.
I'd rather have this - the V8 will always be more special
I kind of understand why you got rid of the ISF even though it’s my affordable dream car right now. I personally haven’t owned a manual car, but I’ve driven a few and I can only imagine missing the connection to the vehicle that a manual transmission delivers. If the ISF was a manual it would be the most sought after V8 on the market tho to be honest
Yeah absolutely if the ISF was manual I’d have no reason to sell it. The other reason is I’m happy owning a 10k car and having a 30k ISF leaves me asset rich but cash poor I guess
@@KiwiCarLifei totally get that, I have a mortgage to pay right now otherwise I’d have an ISF myself, I’m the kind of guy who would rather wait until I can buy one in cash comfortably
God damn thats a beast, i want an isf or rcf but damn things are expensive to buy, i got a 2019 is350 with modded exhaust i could sell and fork out extra couple grand and get an isf 2010 +. But in the long run is it worth doing that? It would be my daily driver.
@@TheShaunydog I dunno man, watch my IS350 vs ISF video that might help you decide!
Was it the RR Racing Tune that removed the 180km/h Limiter??
Possibly? I’m sure there’s multiple
Yes. But Mark at Revolution Engine Services can tune these very well, better than RR imo, and he also removed the speed cut.

Yeah and frankly, to drive like I did in the video, the ISF is 10/10. But having owned one, to live with one is not as rosey. Transmission is horrible around town, harsh ride, seats aren’t that comfortable, infotainment is horrible, and the fuel economy is diabolical

😂 s65 puts out as much torque as a Lexus 3.5L V6 buddy. E90 m3 cool car and better drivers car for rawness but gets smoked every time 😢
Unless stroked to 4.4L and supercharged@@brewskibaker
Well yeah any stroked supercharged car is going to be way faster than stock it's pretty pointless to say that haha. Having recently reviewed an E90 M3 I'd say the M3 is more of a precision tool, better in every measurable area, but I had a bigger smile on my face in the ISF.
@KiwiCarLife the m3s torque gets alot a shit, its a oversqaure design that revs till 8250rpm. What do people expect the torque to be? Really the hate should be the engineers oil gallery size to the rod bearings and plastic gears on the throttle actuators. m3 400nm. Isf 500nm. My little supercharged 3L v6 600nm
@@craigauty6756 Your comparing forced induction to N/A, the M3 is a great car, but when you take reliabilty into account (which you should)plus the additional power the ISF is a no brainer.
