That is a much better ending than just completing the novel. With this Nano, you not only gave us a story, but you gave us a story with a life lesson. And those are the best stories. :D Very proud of you for staying true to yourself.
Sarra, this is seriously the most beautiful gift any writer could ever have, a deep reminder that as writers we are only the channels through which the stories flow, and we need to listen to that. This is 100% a success no matter what the end result was. BIG love and hugs to you ❤✨
What a nail-biter! I feel like The NanoWriMo Diaries was a story all by itself! So glad you were able see the silver lining and end on a positive note. Sometimes it’s just a relief to make a decision even if it’s not the decision you wanted to make. Thanks for sharing this whole month with us! I’ve looked forward to every update. Enjoy your vacation!
If you call KDP, they will unlock preorders for you again. They say it’s case by case, but I’ve never heard of them turning anyone down after a first time preorder cancellation. So there’s definitely still an opportunity for you to do a preorder for your shadow demons book. Don’t give up hope. 💚
YESSSSS!!!! From heartbreak to triumph!! Not the exact triumph you were hoping for, but tremendous triumph all the same! Oh my goodness, Sarra -- these NaNo Diaries Vlogs have been such an amazing testament of the creative life and human spirit. You've inspired us every step of the way!
Talk about the “Dark-Night-of-the-Soul” moment! Thank you for taking us along your real- life story. So moving! I was blinking back tears there at the end. Looking forward to your post-vacation videos AND your amazing HB90 course (my ninth time through, I think)! Wishing you a safe and happy trip! 💕
Eyes welling up...what an important lesson - not just for writing, but for living life. Always make decisions out of joy. This is just a moment in time. Thank you. Hope you get a good, peaceful sleep tonight. 💖
This was an EPIC NaNoWriMo Diaries series! I was biting my nails and cheering you on the whole time and tearing up in the hard times too, and the dark night of the soul with your realization at the end...it was a story in itself. Sending hugs. You ended strong. You are a very hard worker and you have creative integrity, and when the book is ready to be released, it will be better for it.
Whew, what a trip! This series was so unexpectedly fascinating (albeit tough for you). I appreciate you letting us follow along! Good luck with your January release, and I hope you have a restful vacation!
I have mad respect for you because I wouldn't be able to put myself through Nano. I'm a book a year or book per 2 years kinda guy. I would lose my ever lovin' mind trying to write a book all in a month.
Thank you for your bravery, honesty and vulnerability. Not many people would take this kind of experience and be at peace with their situation or even evaluate their situation. The books can wait, you and the story will be better for it! ❤️
Sarra, These diary's have meant the world to me. The fact that you managed to stay positive and see the lessons in the month is inspiring. It's a beautiful reminder to all of us not to give up, to listen to the muse, to give it our all and then be willing to adapt as needed. You give so much to the writing community, you're the best. Sending you all kinds of love a blessings, exhale and have a fantastic holiday with your family.
I felt this on so many levels!!! Recently I made the decision (and my co-author agreed) that we should stop trying to publish our series as a book series, at least for now, and post it as a serial on Wattpad instead. Neither of us have ever really cared about making money off our writing. We do it because we love it, and that's especially true when it comes to the world we've created and the characters we've come to know and love. For way too many years, we tried too hard to make book #1 "publishable." We forgot what it was like when we first started the series. When we started, it was fanfiction, and we were doing it just for fun. The only reason we chose to "go legit" with it was we realized how much time and effort we were putting into it. However, that was also the thing that was holding us back--worrying about how long it was taking for us to get it "done." We put too much pressure on ourselves to be "professional" about our writing. It took me this long for it to really sink in that when I stop worrying about all that and just have fun with it, THAT'S when the writing magic happens. My co-author's pretty much the same way when it comes to her writing. So, the pressure is officially off once and for all! If we never end up publishing it as a book series, that's okay. At least we'll have finally shared our stories with the people who want to read it, which is what we've always wanted more than money. You made such an excellent point about the muse always winning. Now that we've taken the pressure off ourselves to "get it done" and publish it, we can stop rushing and write the stories the way they were always meant to be written. The way we've always wanted them to be. We can include all the little details that make our characters real to us, things we thought we had to cut when we were trying to trim word counts and prune out "unnecessary" scenes. I realize now that the reason our draft for book #1 was so huge was that we were trying to do the same thing you were talking about--cramming too much into one book just to try and finish it. We weren't giving our characters any breathing room, any room to grow and develop as they should. It was mostly "bad guy comes out of nowhere and throws their lives into chaos." There was no room for the MCs' romance to grow, barely any comic relief. But now, we've found a way to let all of it flow organically. When we were discussing it, my co-author said she felt as though this series could "go on forever," and now that we're doing it as a serial, that's actually possible! lol All of this to say this video SERIOUSLY resonated with me! I've saved it to my favorites AND my Writing Tips Reference playlist! That's how much I loved it! 💖💖💖 Thank you so much for sharing your very real writing process with us. This is one reason I'll stay a loyal subscriber and reader! You show us you're a human being, a real person behind the camera. I love that about you. Keep doing what you're doing, and keep being awesome! 😎
This was a brutal journey! It should be required watching for anyone considering writing, especially writing to a deadline. Thank you for sharing this with the community, Sarra. This would have been enough to break some writers. It didn't break you and I'm in awe of your perseverance and integrity. ❤
Oof it really was a tough journey, and tough to share it and feel like I couldn't quite do it! But the book ended up how it needed to be in the end and for that I'm so grateful! Thanks for being on the journey with me!
Sarra, I am so, so, so very proud of you! Yes, some lessons are harder learned than others, but you still won! You listened to your heart. The muse is you, and you listened to yourself. One thing that helps me is "trust the process." Many things in life don't go the way I want them too. It has taken me a very long time to learn that if I don't get what I want, I must learn and move on. My mom used to say, 'there's no use crying over spilled milk." You didn't just give this novel 100%, you gave your all! You have put your heart and soul into this! 1,000%! Be proud of yourself for listening to your heart and doing what you believe in, instead of what you think people want from you. I will buy this book, and I would order it ten times over. You have proven over and over that you do not need to prove yourself! As you said, you are an artist and this is art. And yes, sometimes the Muse, she can be a fickle, b*otch! LOL. I am so proud of you! I wish I could give you a giant hug! I hope you have a wonderful vacation with your family! You more than deserve it! Love and Light :)
This video series has been wonderful and inspiring. In all seriousness, regardless if you have preorder privileges or not, you're amazing and your true fans will be able to see that you're putting out the best work that you can for them. I hope you have a wonderful vacation with your family. You deserve some time off with the people you love.
Been waiting for this video all day!! :) Huge amounts of respect at your efforts. And 82K in a freakin' month is AMAZING. You did a Herculean effort and no one can say you didn't give it your all. Best to have your book be the best it can be. The lesson is a good one. Loads of hugs and have an amazing vacation.
Wow! Your diaries have been such an amazing ride. I looked forward to watching them everyday! You are an amazing wife, mother and author. Thank you for sharing this journey with us. Enjoy your vacation!
I learned a long time ago that you can never make decisions based on fear. Had I allowed fear to rule my life, I wouldn’t be here today. Your loyal readers won’t care when your book comes out. Enjoy your time with the family. There is much to be grateful for. Happy Holidays! 🎄❄️💕
Sarra, you are a winner because you realised the truth & learnt the lesson (with a novel almost done plus an additional book in the making)❗️👏Have a super break with your family 🤹♀️🎢🎡🎠!! We will be here when you return. 👋
Such a good good good decision, the most important things are creating a fantastic book that’s meant to be and the well-being of you and your family. Yes the muse always wins. And that’s a very good thing. Here is to joy!!! Enjoy your time with your family! Hugs!
I love this! Good for you. When you said it's supposed to be two books, that just felt right. It's a wonderful gift, for you as writer, and for your readers. Hope you have a terrific time at Disney and return energized and excited and ready to enjoy the process of finishing.
Fan is actually short for fanatic. I know you want to satisfy your fans, but the true story is more important. If they are really fans (and not just fanatics) they will want the best book. Thanks for sharing the entire journey with us - good and bad. I hope you have a wonderful vacation and come back feeling refreshed!
Jesse Mechan had something similar when he gave a release date for an YNAB update. He set a date, even though he hadn’t finished the update and then spent months sleeping at his office to get it in time so he wouldn’t “break his promise” Now, he refuses to set a release date until the update is 100% ready. He refused to set a release date until he is confident he could launch “tomorrow” I think giving yourself this deadline hasn’t been healthy for you and to give yourself more grace. It hurt to watch you put yourself through this. Regardless, you did an amazing job for this years Nano.
It's ok Sarra...you can't really please everyone...enjoy your family vacation, you really deserve this moment! You've tried your best to make it work, it just wasn't meant to be out right now...we'll be waiting for it!
You are an amazing author, teacher and inspiration to us authors. Go easy on yourself. I will still be purchasing your book. I look forward to it no matter when it comes out. Take a well needed break, enjoy your vacation, be safe and have fun!
Just be thankful for the readers who won't turn their backs on you. I was afraid that my eleven year old biggest fan would get upset at me if my second book wasn't out last year, but she's okay with waiting and I am so grateful for her and her family who are all fans of my books.
Sarra, thank you so much for sharing this journey with us. It was a roller coaster that I think all authors should witness because it gives us hope and shows us we aren't alone. I know this wasn't easy for you, but it meant a lot to me to witness the highs and lows of your journey. Also, I'm pretty sure KDP will reinstate your pre-order permissions if you contact them. I hope you and your family have an amazing vacation. You deserve it.
Thank you for sharing this journey with us! I'm so sorry you didn't make your deadline, but your attitude and grit has been truly inspiring. I love that you were able to find the lesson through this, and I hope you enjoy this vacation because you deserve it!!
I have tears in my eyes and goosebumps. Thank you for taking us along on this incredible hero's journey. It totally makes sense why the book was unwilling to be written. I love you even more for making this decision, and will happily read both books whenever they are out. Hugs and love to you! :-*
You are the most inspirational woman I have ever seen. Thank you so much, Sarra! I’m positive your book will be wonderful and 100% worth the wait. I am sending all my love to you and your family!
I'm so glad you found peace with this book. Your books are always so good and we are willing to wait till its the story you want to tell. You look so much happier today than you have in the last week. We have enjoyed the ride with you and can't wait for the last video.Enjoy your vacation and family time. You deserve it.
Another book in the series! Thats amazing news!! The date is in my diary to buy the book. It will be worth the wait. Now go off and enjoy a well deserved family holiday and some down time. xx
Hi Sarra, you will not lose preorder privileges for a year. You should be able to email amazon support to revoke the preorder ban, which is an exception they are making to support writers during covid times. Well done on pushing so hard for this, and have a lovely holiday!
I am so glad that you have decided to be gentle with yourself and give yourself grace. Those two things are SO HARD sometimes but the book will be all the better for it. Happy Vacation!! 🤩
Never underestimate experience & determination...thanks for the write-along-athon. Wow...one more? Excellent! Never mind the preorder...I have to read the preqels first anyway. I'm a slow & patient reader. Lady, you rock!
I have faith that this is not only a lesson, but a step in the right direction where you have left behind fear and embraced the muse once again in the right direction for your career and the life of the book♡
Thank you for being so true to yourself and your book. I have loved every moment of your NaNoWriMo journey. Although I have not done what i had wanted in my Nano journey, you have inspired me to keep going. Thank you and I hope you enjoy your trip!
I am so glad you didn't compromise your self as the creator, and as for decisions rooted in fear it's a blessing when they don't pan out. Of all your fantastic videos I enjoyed the most the nanowrimo diaries as a window into your process, warts and all 😊 🌈❤
I was SO stressed watching this, but Sarra you really gave it your all and made the decision in the end to follow your art and your joy---you really do walk your talk and I really respect that!
Ok I finished and you proved once again that you are the person I want to be following. Also regarding the NaNo diaries. I think this story is MUCH more valuable than just your typical "I hit 50k words and won but won't actually make it a book" vids we get all the time. I hope you have the best trip ever!!!
It's 2020. A year for learning that things can fall to pieces... and that it's OK to take the time we need to deal with that. Hands up, everyone who has had the exact same thing happen this year!
I know that you work so hard and I just want you to know that I am thankful for your inspiration everyday. You need to take care of yourself. Those of us who love you and your books will be here for you always!
Girl! You worked so hard. It was fascinating to watch, but I know you had such a hard time of it. And what an ending! I'm glad things came together. Have so much fun on your trip!!
Just like you can't force life, you can't force your muse. Following your nano diaries I have seen how hard you work and it might have gotten to the point that you just needed to step back and take a breather. For all you know your muse might pop up while spending time with your family in disney and be your saving grace. Proud to watch such a strong writer work her magic to make the world a more creative place.
So happy you came to this decision!!! I have enjoyed watching this vlog and appreciate you sharing so much of the struggles you faced. You did GREAT. 👏 👏👏👏 I hope you and your family enjoy your vacation.
Sarra!!!! This video was just what I needed. First, I want you to know how much I appreciate you sharing your complicated journey because it is so real and raw. I am literally crying tears of joy right now. Your words were what I needed to hear. I am working on my third novel, a sequel to my first, and I had hoped to have it completed on November 16th, but something wasn't sitting right with me so I've taken more time because I want the sequel to be all that it is meant to be. I am happy that you listened to your muse and that you are pressing on despite the disappointment. Your book will be so much better for it. I am a huge fan of you as a writer, but I'm an even bigger fan of how you approach the importance of what you put out into the world. Keep pressing on sister! I can't wait for the finished product.
Sarra, I am so grateful that you shared this whole journey with us. I have had so many struggles similar to the ones you've shared in these videos, and to see your revelations, especially this one, have made such a huge impact on me! Thank you for being you.
You have turned a corner and a weight has been lifted off your shoulders :) I believe there is a "timing" for things. I had an intuitive dream recently telling me that the reason I haven't been able to launch the project I have on the go is because it wasn't time yet. (Soon though. Within reach.) Your husband is a godsend for you. Bet you're happy to have him in your corner. Big hugs being sent your way!
Go! Enjoy your vacation, your family, take a lot of pictures, laugh! You’ve learned a lesson from this experience. I still admire how you can do so much and keep going. I have also learned a lesson this year and after depression and therapy, I don’t feel ready to start again. Maybe next year... we’ll see. All the best to you and your family!
Wow, what a rollercoaster ride you've had with this book! While it's not what you wanted to do in an ideal world, I do believe that this decision is best for the book and for your health. Enjoy your holiday and we'll see you when you get back. (Final NaNo word count : 55,224)
You are amazing, Sarra! What a journey this month has been, and this year! You've done incredible things and this NaNoWriMo is one of them. Your dedication is inspiring, your work ethic is amazing! Thank you for sharing this with us! Have an amazing vacation with your family! 💜
What a great lesson, because you just made me realize something about my college journey. Oh wow! Story needs what the story needs!!!! Thank you Have a blessed and peaceful December
Girl!!! This makes me love you even more! I haven’t read your books, just stumbled upon your YT a couple years ago for planners, but now I’m intrigued to read this series!
Wow! What amazing lessons! How incredibly difficult a decision to choose between your goals and the book. And what a great perspective to take about the longevity of a book... I think you made the right decision!
I'm still in the middle of a video but I just want to hug you, tell you that it's ok to cancel it and better spend that time getting over the disappointment and getting in a trip mood. I'll watch till the end but honestly, Sarra, the readers will come along, these ones or next ones. You will get a shot at that Best seller list you want, maybe next time, but I'm sure of it. Things just take time. Love yourself and don't be hard on yourself!
Love you Sarra! You are truly an inspiration! Please forgive me; I know I have not posted in the comments this month, however, all of your videos have been on auto-play the majority of this month. Just hearing your journey and words of wisdom in the background have helped me to win NaNoWriMo this year. Like you, I received the gift of a second book out of this experience as well. This was my 4th attempt at winning. Thanks again for being a beacon of light even when you weren't feeling your best. We gave it 100% and pushed through! Enjoy your much needed vacation with the family!
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. The truth always helps someone else have a few realizations of their own. Thank you for that. Have a fantastic time with the family at Disney. Lot of hugs sent your way for being such an inspiration to us all.
It's funny when I first started writing I always fought my muse thinking I could force my story's to head in the direction I wanted. I did this out of trying to not have to add extra scenes. Since my story was taking me longer than I wanted to write. Pulse a family member was not helping things by comparing how long it takes Steven King to write a book. Long story short it didn't take me too long to learn my muse was going to win no matter what I did. I'm glad that you let your muse win in the end. You already know this but, I'm saying this anyway to end my comment letting your story have it's way only expands your horizons as a writer.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us! You are truly an inspiration! I hope you get to enjoy your vacation and time with your family. You are truly the hero in your own story and what a valuable lesson that you have shared with all of us! Can't wait to see what comes next.
Girl, you’re a badass! You’re so talented, I loved watching this series of videos and I’m not even a writer lol. Enjoy your vacation and I’m praying for safe travels for you and your family❤️
That is a much better ending than just completing the novel. With this Nano, you not only gave us a story, but you gave us a story with a life lesson. And those are the best stories. :D Very proud of you for staying true to yourself.

This is exactly what was thumping in my heart as she spoke to her creative contract with her muse to write the story as it's meant to be written.
What a nail-biter! I feel like The NanoWriMo Diaries was a story all by itself! So glad you were able see the silver lining and end on a positive note. Sara, double check if you will lose preorder priviledges. I believe they suspended that rule this year during Covid.

So proud of you. It’ll all be ok. Enjoy Disney and family time.

I think giving yourself this deadline hasn’t been healthy for you and to give yourself more grace.
I am proud of you for sticking to your standards and upholding your integrity. Have a wonderful vacation!!! You've def earned it.
A powerful massage for us all. Thank you for your authenticity and for sharing this wrestling match with your Muse. Enjoy your vacation. ❤️
Now go off and enjoy a well deserved family holiday and some down time. xx
thank you for sharing. this journey has been incredible!
That was beautiful. Thank you for letting us behind the scenes and showing an incredible level of vulnerability.
YAY!!!! Thank you so much, Muse! Can't wait to get the book :)
We love you, Sarra! You have to be proud of your work, and it's super cool that there might be a 4th book in the series! I'm proud of you!
AWESOME!!! This has been some trip, thanks for sharing, you're truly amazing. May you have a wonderful vacation!!!!
I am so glad you didn't compromise your self as the creator, and as for decisions rooted in fear it's a blessing when they don't pan out. Of all your fantastic videos I enjoyed the most the nanowrimo diaries as a window into your process, warts and all 😊 🌈❤
Thanks for sharing your truth! Makes me want to follow your journey even more❤️🙏🏽
I hope you enjoy your vacation!! You def deserve it!
Yes! I love your passion!!! It’s so exhilarating to see somebody so excited doing what they love to do.
Hands up, everyone who has had the exact same thing happen this year!
in the beggining i was like "just do a deus ex machina"and be done with it! but when u mention spliting the book i was "aahhh...thats better"kkkk
Crying. Thank you for sharing this journey with us.
I love the lesson you got form this!!! Watching this series was pure magic! Have a wonderful trip!!!!
Sending much love and respect for your journey, your resolve and your honesty. Enjoy your much-deserved vacation!
Sarra, you just have to remember that writing is your passion. Love you, biggest hugs to you and your family
So happy you came to this decision!!! I have enjoyed watching this vlog and appreciate you sharing so much of the struggles you faced. You did GREAT. 👏 👏👏👏 I hope you and your family enjoy your vacation.
You smash it! You did a brilliant job! You are a conqueror! BRAVO!!👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you, Sarra, just thank you
Call Amazon KDP, they are forgiving people who aren't meeting their preorder deadlines because of covid! Definitely reach out to them.
I love how real you were in this video 🥰
The lesson was in your tarot yesterday.
I had the same thought!
Thank you
Have a blessed and peaceful December
Take care of yourself and sending hugs 💕
Your attitude is why I watch your channel. Thanks! Love it! Enjoy your holiday. Take it easy, Sarra! xo
I'm so glad you found the lesson in all this 🤗💚 I totally agree, you have to be true to the story. 🖋
Girl!!! This makes me love you even more! I haven’t read your books, just stumbled upon your YT a couple years ago for planners, but now I’m intrigued to read this series!
Sending light ✨ and 🤍. You have been such a great example of my dream and I sincerely appreciate you!
Strong, inspirational and genuine as always :) I will miss watching the nanowrimo diaries with my breakfast every morning! X
Yup! Crafting takes time. Love ya
That’s amazing that you had such a good attitude about how it turned out and was able to see the good in it. You are amazing and such an inspiration!
Fabulous breakthrough! I'm happy for you. Great lesson for us too!
Sending you positive vibes ❤️ I hope you have a blast at Disney.
Love you for your honesty again and again. Yay epiphanies 💕
In the words of Rob Schneider, "YOU CAN DO IT!"
This was so great to watch! I am very proud of you and hope you have a great time at Disney! You are amazing!
