Yes, to a point... It also takes more adults to be involved, No One is Superman. It takes an army, not all at one time, but logistics. Who can give rides (practice, events, church, library, work, etc.) , bring a snack, find equipment, organize T-shirts, get shoes, etc. !! Yea, anyone with vision, energy, extra pocket change... can make a difference. But, everyone should give, even if its just 1 ride (outta 100), 1 bag of cookies, a box of water flavors, helping sweep up, donate your bottle return change, or just being there (your kids or not!).
No offense... & you are Right! Not everyone could do what this man is, BUT, let him do that ! Take a load off his shoulders, split it up, organize a committee, find kids that NEED this, find business to get involved, maybe even small awards to the kids (at least a few pats on the collective backs & applause!)... Help fill some of the blank spots in a child's future, direction, support, dedication, fears, ect. So, go & help, everyone, & when ya can't, find somebody to fill in, rotate some involvement.

Australia has town's like these. Drugs alcohol and crime.. then 8n one town. A indigenous elder said i have had enough. So he gathered the town's people together. And said instead of wasting money on alcohol and cigarettes. Let's have a working bee. And repair and paint all the houses.. the kids joined in because they could choose the colors. Within 2 years. The town won the tidiest town in Australia.. and crime had dropped 90%..

I’m only 1 minute into this video and I’m already overcome with emotion. At the time of this posting I have not yet watched in full, but I anticipate the remainder will prove very powerful indeed. Without knowing what is about to be said, I can testify that marching band is where I learned the importance of professionalism, tradition, dignity, commitment to a cause, overcoming adversity, loyalty, work ethic, the power of vision, precision, physicality, artistry and technique. All are tools I continue to use professionally to this very day.
These kids are absolutely glowing and I think I know why.

This literally brought a tear to my eye and a catch in my breath when he mentioned that anyone who's been a Cobra can come back at any time and rejoin them and march or drum again. That they always have "a seat at the table". This is something a lot of people dream of, a Brotherhood (Sisterhood, Family) that will always have your back, because blood family can be unreliable sometimes, and they can be small, thus fading away to Life and Death as the years go by, but a Brotherhood (Sisterhood, Family) lasts forever, because they are much much larger and constantly growing. Blood family can, for some people, consist of only a mother & father (single child marries a single child and they have a single child), and once they pass, the "child" is alone in the World. It's a lonely place to be. It's why the Brotherhood of Fraternities and Sisterhood of Sororities are so popular; why cops and firefighters become tight families; and why gangs are such a big thing. If they can give these people a Family that grows and is always there for them, these kids can do anything, be anything, because they have the power of belonging and unconditional Love behind them. These Families are always on your side. They'll fight for you first and ask questions later.

I grew in Baltimore city (born in 1983), down by the inner harbor. I’m very thankful for having the boys & girls club, and other rec centers. I believe it kept me out of trouble because I always had a place to go. A place to spend time having fun with other kids. These days it’s hard to find a open rec center. There are organizations you can pay to play for but not everyone has the extra money to spend, or a car to get them there.

I moved to KC,MO in 1975 and left in 1988. I remember seeing the Cobras in parades and it blew me away on how talented those kids are and were perfect in every way. I'm sure I saw Willie and Don but had no idea who they were. I know exactly where 3400 Tracy is and it was drug infested even back then. Great! to see kids doing something besides selling drugs in that part of the hood. Kudos to all the Cobras and all their mentors! and Mike for doing this video.

The most valuable and important message I get from your shows is....There are still good, decent, energetic, positive, hard-working, caring, dedicated, solid people in this Country. If you watch the news, you start to think people like that don't exist anymore. This little show of yours shows us that, at heart, Americans are still good. It restores my faith in mankind.
