Suggestion for future videos: low light tests really need to include motion. It’s trivially easy to make a static scene look impressive by increasing exposure time/noise reduction, but often this results in unusable recording of in-motion objects - faces, license plates, etc.
I installed a G5 Turret yesterday, replacing a Ring Floodlight over my garage door. So far so good! The Turret is certainly more stealth than the Floodlight and definitely more attractive. I am slowly replacing my Ring devices with Unifi cameras so I can have local video storage and eventually eliminating the monthly subscription. Great job reviewing the new Unifi cameras!
I replaced Ring with UniFi when I recently moved house. The UniFi equipment is nice. But I have to say, the features and performance Ring give you is very good. UniFi looks better and feels more pro, but I have to be honest and say my Ring cameras worked flawlessly for years, quality of image was good enough and detections were far superior to what I get with UniFi (g5 bullet and pro), much less false positives. The different options of Ring for Wi-Fi and Poe, battery and battery plus solar was great for flexibility. The biggest reason for UniFi for me ends up being the local video and storage, I don’t have the internet bandwidth to be writing all that video to the cloud, so on that front Rimg just doesn’t work for me. I want UniFi to be much better… but Ring is pretty great
@@briangurka8085 A while after installing the ring floodlight I installed numerous smart devices, including a number of light switches. I’ve since installed a routine that turns on/off my garage lights at dusk/dawn. So, don’t need the floods.
As soon as those turrets come back in stock I'm getting at least 2. They are superior to anything else. The IR and view angle are great. It also has a better weather proof rating compared to most of the other cameras.
The turret is for sure appealing with its mounting options, wider angle of view and reasonable price point. The mounting arm accessory is expensive however. I’ll look forward to the outdoor tests and go from there. Can’t wait for a more affordable & smaller ptz device too
Thanks for the comparison video. My G5 Turret Ultras showed up yesterday, I'm swapping out my G3 Bullets; so with better resolution, AI features, & a wider field of view it's worth it after maybe 8 yrs of the G3's. I feel like I got my moneys worth.
Thanks for the thorough video - I bought one of each of these but they are still laying on my desk after week... I hadn't realized when ordering the Dome that it did not have a microphone which is a bummer, for many of my sites audio recording has been just as helpful if not more helpful than video for some theft and employee conflict events. I'm excited to see if they actually do come out with an Ultra (affordable) PTZ, though the current PTZ isn't even worth their asking price. Big wish list: a multi-sensor camera to fianlly round off the product lineup
Interesting. I'm planning to install several G5 turrets on the exterior of a homeowner's residence, as well as the G5 Pro and extender. Currently, all cabling is being run through flexible conduit outside due to the homeowners' desire to relocate the system due to the presence of asbestos insulation in their attic. The Turrets and the Pro are going to run off a Flex switch powered by a POE++ injector, then to UDM SE.
Hi Clay. Great video! Totally agree that Ubiquiti is targeting the larger market with these “Ultra” cameras. I also agree the turret camera in particular will be a big hit. Although video quality/comparisons are key, I wish you had also compared the audio. Ubiquiti changed something with the audio in their G5 & AI cameras. I believe they introduced noise canceling (NC), which for me/my use case was a big letdown. I want/need to hear various background noises, but you simply can’t with NC enabled. I’ve seen/heard that very few of the G5s/AIs provide a NC disabling option (sadly my AI Pro still doesn’t).
I just installed my first Turret Ultra a couple of days ago, The image quality is great, but I'm not happy about the large hole required for mounting. Also, the design of the mechanism that lets you aim and secure the camera could be better.
Yeah, people are going to have to get used to the junction box idea for turrets. I didn't have any issues with the mechanism (I watched the official unifi video which has a good example). What exactly were u having issues with?
I’m surprised how good the night vision! I upgraded the cameras from g3 bullet to g5 turret Ultra. Easy to install and very good price point! Happy costumer
Opening statement was provoking thoughts of rubber gloves and lubricant.... The FOV on the new dome/turret is pretty impressive, certainly maens less cameras need to cover areas. The G5 flex width is great for the classic 90° corvers but the G5 Bullets suck with the narrow FOV leaving blind spots.
As a customer for home use; I don't think these new camera will sell as much due to the "dongle." At least it will depending on the mounting. Personally I don't want to drill a large hold in the side of my home, which would also require drilling a hole in the siding. Drilling one for a Ethernet cable is about as big as I would be willing to go.
They are never in stock and selling like crazy. You can get around cutting a hole for the dongle by using the Camera Compact Junction Box. I just did a review of that if you want to check it out.
I ended up going with the bullet cameras I like the look of the turret better but I don’t wanna drill any holes for these adapters so I just used something basic

After reading the specs, I believe that the all the 2K cameras use the same 1/2.4 sensor so the images would likely be very similar as really only software and maybe lens differences would make the difference on the image. I wouldn't be surprised if they all ahd similar if not the same lens structure too, but I have no information to confirm that. Curiosity here. What is the advantage of Dome over Turret, other than personal preference on the look?
Well darn I was planning my home security system out and was initially going to get a lot of G5 flex, but now this new turret seems more appealing...smaller size and mounting profile. I say darn because the turret is now out of stock so I'll have to wait. That said, I am confused because the G5 flex on paper has a much larger sensor so surprised the quality isn't better. And the "ultra' is supposed to be the budget line, yet seems like camera image is better for the same price? Something has to give...
@@grandpixel not really there pros and cons to all. The turret is a really good all-arounder it's hard to tamper with. It's smaller in footprint and it's really flexible. The bullets usually have a little bit more zoom so they're great for a little bit further distance. The down was typically are not weather sealed as much and are used indoors or in ceilings. It's really just what fits your UI. Use case the best.
I’ve been able to remove the glare on Unifi’s dome cameras by just cleaning the dome thoroughly and drying with a microfiber cloth so there’s no residue at all on the dome. If I do that before installing, it stays crystal clear for good day or night.
not a content related question, but i love your setup, how do you blur your background just so much? what camera setup are you using. im doing an insane amount of zoom and video calls and need to up my setup.
Im using a Sony A7s3 and either a Tamron 28-75 2.8 (v1) or a Sony 24mm GM 1.4. Links are in the description. In this video I was using the Tamron, which is an incredible lens for the price! I use the setup as my web cam as well...
I had 2 g3 domes and regret it...and than a lot of g3 flex mounted outdoor fully exposed for years even not really rated for weather and those still rules out and than I bought 2 g5 dome and regretted again... probable going on g5 flex ou turret. Those are really good.
Great first part of your review. The only thing holding me back from purchasing the G5 Turret Ultra over the old G4/G5 domes would be the taller FOV of the latter, at least on paper (71 over 55 degrees). However, your images seem to contradict the official specs. Do you have the Lens Distortion Correction option unchecked in your domes? Is such an option enabled by default also in the new turret?

What about audio quality? - We currently have G3 Dome (in our opinion the best audio). - We also have a G5 Dome and a Camera G5 Flex, we hate the audio quality of both. Everything sounds like a robot or in a tin can. But we like to upgrade the image quality...
I get the same feedback from many, I'm not the best to test them because we have a white noise system in the office. I'm working on a better testing method that is more objective and consistent for sound.
You can freeze frame the video when the Excel spreadsheet comes up on the screen. Other than the by our distance which others have commented on it should be complete. I will update the IR distance before I post the blog article today.
How does the audio compare on the turret to the G5's and G4's? I know the G5's are a definite audio downgrade from the G4; curious if the Ultra followed the same suit.
I'm sure with the success of these turrets they will definitely have a high-end one coming out. That's just my best guess, but I have a feeling they're going to have a really hard time keeping these once in stock..
I currently have two G3 Flex installed with the recessed ceiling mount. I’m considering replacing them the new Turret. Will Turret mount fit completely over the hole that was drilled for the Flex?
I'm doing the same, the hole cut for the G3 flex flush mounts is 57mm (~2 1/4"). The G5 turret instructions say to cut a 31mm (~1 1/4") hole. The diameter between mounting holes is approx. 75-80mm (~3") so we should be fine.
Odd, most people are cutting that sized hole for penetrations in their soffit for many different cameras. The dome is big but 1” for the turret isn’t bad but 1.5” isn’t out of the question
I just see it as this. a turret camera, J-Box or not, you shouldn’t be forced into having that giant hole. I’m perfectly fine plugging 5/8 hole from a single cable. But that giant brick will force you into the overpriced junction box from the company. I’ll stick to the g5 bullet and domes that allow you to directly plug into the camera. Meh, I have all 4K PoE cameras with much better image quality that cost less than these $129 low grade UniFi cameras. I have a ton of Ubiquiti gear but I will never understand why people want to MASSIVELY overpay for their cameras. Guess I will just be happy with the better image quality and extra money in my pocket. Still worth it even though I can't use the UNVR and stay in just one ecosystem.

Don't buy this stuff if you live in the UK. The returns process is done by sending stuff to the Netherlands. Your products get customs charges for returns! This stuff is garbage! I was offered instore credits to cover the customs charges! I will not be buying more items to send to the Netherlands! Very poor customer service.

what did you do about the floodlight itself? Are you just not using a floodlight?

Images look really similar... You definitely need to monitor stock because they are going to be hard to get.

They are all in default mode, the turret does not have LDC and my domes DO have LDC on.

I do a comparison in the outdoor video, its out this afternoon. Spoiler alert, its comparable to the other G5s.
