Honestly this is a bigger dub for Space than it was for Leffen. Punk is good but Sonicfox was dominating every tournament since Strive came out and for Space to beat him as an underdog ult player is insane.
Brian F on youtube has a series where he tries to learn melee from HMW and HMW tries to learn SFV from Brian F. It doesn't go that well lol, but its pretty fun. Also people in your chat were saying this but Lordknight is a famous GG player and he's actually was a smasher before he was an anime fighter guy. Granted he switched over *early* like before 2010 early.
Always funny how the FGC will clown on Smash Players for playing "an easier game" but we never see any of them actually go out and prove to everyone just how easy Smash supposedly is. And meanwhile we have the opposite happening where Smash players will take some sets off of some big FGC players.

Everyone pretends the fgc doesnt care about playing or supporting smash. We literally would not have a scene if Alukard didnt host the Revival of Melee, the first national after the release of brawl along with the no johns biweekly events. All melee exclusives, too. We would all be playing ult if it wasnt for the fgc.
I think the real issue is that their are too many "average" players who don't respect Smash. Most top level FGC players respect the game that I see, with a few exceptions. I play both, but have primarily been an anime FGC player for the last decade. I definitely see a ton of random people hate on smash because "it's a party game" We can respect the top players and the people who support smash, but I'm not going to say the whole of the FGC is good to smash just because top players "saved" melee.

can't speak about Xrd bc I didn't play it much but his +R take sounds about right. the people who love +R are still here and there's still weeklys happening everyday but I can't help but think +R would be a lot bigger rn if people presented +R more as an ongoing alternative (with better rollback for $1!!) rather than letting momentum fizzle out after the big creators making +R content for the Strive pre-release jumped ship
Leffen has always done this. You get used to it. Ultimately those sort of hot takes don't have much bearing on being a community leader compared to actually competing and organizing tournaments and shit. Also sometimes he's right, and even when he's not interesting conversations often come from it.
