Former Tory Trade Minister Schooled On Trade

  • I appeared on #bbc #politicslive to discuss the British farming crisis.
Conor Burns however wanted to talk about the something I apparently tweeted about the Tories being capable of criminal greed and are evil 🤷‍♀️
He also claimed there have been no USA/UK free trade negotiations - which is untrue!
Just nonsense really none of the parties make any sense because they cant admit #brexit has failed.

But Liz is making stuff up. There is nothing in the CPTPP that forces the UK to compromise their standards.
Canada tried to force the UK to accept hormone beef and failed. Again they are trying this on with trade talks with the UK, and the trade minister said no and walked away.
She then extrapolates a trade deal with the USA, because some Tories have said they want one.
She moans that trade deals with Aus and NZ are bad deals because some ex minister who us in the other with the party said so.
In reality over all both deals result in a surplus for the UK.
The farmers own research group have suggested that the NZ deal is unlikely to make much difference.
And Aus is more likely to impact Irish and french exports to the UK
The big problem is that UK farmers can't compete due to their own farming practices, and require subsidises which NZ and Aus farmers don't get. But there are differences e.g. seasons offset, frozen Vs fresh meat. The UK farmers do have advantages close to market a loyalty brands, especially in the fresh produce market.
It was actually the EU that had a massive surplus both in foods and other goods.

Once again Annalise Dodds for Labour can only resort to waffle (unfortunately not the Belgian type). Like the Tories haven’t a clue let alone a plan with regards Brexit. They haven’t a plan because there’s no substitute. Yet here they are pandering to the Gammon right and little Englanders. It’s just insane politics. Just one of the reasons why Scottish independence is so important. For those who say Scotland couldn’t or wouldn’t be able to manage being independent. They are as wrong as they were thinking Brexit would work
