Hi Gary, I hope you are good sir, thank you for these wonderful videos they really do help. I was working on the exact same engine but it was leaking oil on the timing cover seal, i removed the timing cover as per instructions on the video and then replaced gasket and the seal that was leaking, then i put it all back together, as per the assemble video, but now the car wont start, all it does it cranks, would you be so kind to advise what could be causing this ? I did not touch/mess with the timing chain, all i did was just remove the cover to replace the seal and gasket, then assembled.
Hi Gary, i did some work on the same engine and followed what you are doing however when i crank the car the intake takes air out rather the in. Any advice mind you i did a complete engine overhaul by changing crankshaft pistons and camshafts
There are 4 strokes an engine goes through when being cranked it seems your exhaust stroke (air out) is working, but your air is not (intake stroke), either the compression rings are broken or the valves are not sealing on that cylinder, the cam timing could also be incorrect, (timing chain set wrong)
Dear sir, I am from Malaysia. Hope you are doing fine. I would like to seek an advise from you. I am driving a Volkswagen polo 1.6 year made 2015. Recently i sent my car to one of the workshop nearby to change some parts for my car as listed below 1. Cylinder head 2. Cylinder head cover 3. Head gasket 4. Valve seal 5. Plug seal 6. Timing cover gasket 7. Engine oil After changed all the parts below, the workshop claims my car engine temperature rises to 120 and they advised me to change thermostat. I asked them to change the thermostat and then they said the temperature is now 105. They suggested me to change the water pump and i did so changing the water pump. My car temperature still shows 105. When i start the car, initially it will rise to 90. After about 7 minute, the temperature goes to 100 or something 105. When i revved the engine RPM to 1500 or 2000, the temperature drops back to 90 and when I stopped raving it goes to 100 back. When I drive at constant speed on highway, the temperature will be 90. When i stuck at traffic it will rise to 105 From your point of view, what do u think the problem might be because i am worried the workshop ask me to do unnecessary things which the cost will be high. I also realized that my car heater not function after the cylinder head change. Please assist me sir on this. Thank you

I recently changed my head gasket. I have two concerns timing and knowing what stroke im on. How do i determine this?
Hello Trevor, when timing an engine, the No.1 piston must be TDC, all the way up, and the cylinder head's valves should be rocking on the No.4 cylinder to ensure the valves on the No.1 cylinder are all closed. By rocking I mean the precise point where the inlet valves close and the exhaust valves open, mostly the head will have markings on the timing gear to indicate this point, but an experienced mechanic should know how to set this up, I hope this answers your question, thanks for supporting my channel it is well appreciated. Gary I have another question. If I set up as said and it still doesn't want to start what do you suggest? I have new spark plugs, confirmed that the fuel pump is working, it sounds like it wants to start but it doesn't. Appreciate your advice sir
Good day Gary when you are changing the belt on the camshaft. There's a position that you can positon the cam to where you can lock it with two pins. Is the cam then in a position as you mentioned earlier where piston 1 is TDC and piston 4 rocking?

My Clp 1.4 engine keeps loosing timing any ideas what could be causing it. Maybe you are familiar with this problem the valves keep bending when that happens
Hi Prince Dube, thanks for supporting my channel with your visit and your interaction, it really does help to grow the channel and is appreciated tremendously. It sounds like you have stretched chains causing it to jump a tooth or two causing bent valves, when you do the chains do the sprockets, guides, and tensioner at the same time, hope this helps.
Hi Gary, I have an engine similar to this (in fact, identical), it runs perfectly fine and picks up speed pretty quick. However, when I was doing a service last week, I noticed that the spark plugs and coils were wet with oil. I had to them come watch this video and now the only thing that makes sense is that the o-rings around the spark plug tubes are worn. Any ideas how I can go about replacing them without tempering with the timing belt? Timing seems to be a delicate job so I'm not confident enough to tackle it.
Hi Gary, I'm the timing on the similar engine, I do the timing tool kit and I used it accordingly, but the moment I turn the ignition it bends the the valves, inlet valves, what could be the cause of that, please help me I've taken the head off for three times now
iwas having the same problem only to find that it a crank pulley that connect chain the groove that connect crank it damage so when it running it lost timing then bend valves
Hi Gary my issue is when I try to unlock the crank pulley bolt to place the timing cover..I seem to slip back the tensioner when ùnlocking crank bolt, any advice how to remove the bolt without pushing the tensioner?

If anything can help, use it just be sure they are all in their correct place when tightening down the cam.
The rockers clip onto the lifters so that they don't fall off when fitting the cam box

Hi Gary i have a similar problem i bought a new tensioner but my car keeps loosing timing
You need to put some engine oil on bolts treads....
Unfortunately, Yanda-Lo, you have to remove the cam box to access those seals, sorry man.
Gary
@@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790 I understand, thanks for the reply
Hi Gary, I'm the timing on the similar engine, I do the timing tool kit and I used it accordingly, but the moment I turn the ignition it bends the the valves, inlet valves, what could be the cause of that, please help me I've taken the head off for three times now
