I'm 53. Been posting at least 2 videos a week for the past 4 1/2 years. About 750 videos now. About 6.5 million views. Changed my niche 5 months ago due to my changing interest. Averaging $400-$600 monthly adsense in 2024. My advice is just be consistent long term. Thanks for this video! ⚡️
Thanks for the info, Brian! I started watching your videos when I just got started on the Tube (post 40) and my channel is chugging along, just over 20K subs now.
I was in my 50s when I started, without any plans, just posting videos of my hobby. By now, in my 60s, TH-cam is my main job, I have finally been posting regularly for over a year and growing a community. Your channel Brian has been a great help along the way! Now I watched this video from the point of view of learning from the way you do B-rolls!
Same here. It's a commitment to keep posting. You get into a rythem and it starts to become a part of your day. When you create for your community you make real connections. I think TH-cam is the greatest platform on the web.
Yep, actually getting people to click is fairly easy. Getting them to stick, watch a video longer and deeply engaged is what’s hard. And of course, those are the things that truly matter and trigger views and growth you can get there. One video at a time.
I am 43 years old and having for years a TH-cam channel. After having a kind of burn out, I gave it a new chance and doing things I never thought I should do: being and speaking in front of the camera. I can improve a lot of things but I'm happy that I got out of my comfort zone and just did it no matter how bad my videos are. You should do the same. Life is too short to wait to start with your dreams.
Absolutely love this! Starting something new, especially at 50, proves that passion and persistence have no expiration date. Your journey is a perfect example that success isn’t about speed, but about showing up and staying committed. You’ve carved your own lane, and the connections you've built along the way are priceless. It’s a reminder to all of us that it’s never too late to pursue what excites us. Your story isn’t just inspiring-it’s empowering!
Continuing to upload has been the key to my success so far. My goal on each video is to improve one thing and over the last 5 years I have developed my own structure and style to my videos.
I feel like I never get to see your vids so early after you upload. Love seeinf so many mote of us adults beginning to share our wisdom and lives. I truly think our generation is why so much is chamging and goimg back to normal real channels instead of the chaotic fake stuff. Love your statement about not being about perfection but instead just sharing our lives and world.
Absolutely Becki totally agree! Just want to let you know it’s really lovely to see your comments on the channel and I’m glad we share the journey together
I'm 30, but I'm already feeling VERY late, I do need this to become a reality not just a dreams pretty quickly, but as far as thins are looking, my YT growth is SO slow. But still, To all of my 51 subscribers. THANKS a Lot!! I appreciate you and I'm gonna keep improving for y'all and me 🥰 Today feels tough, but I’m leaving this comment as a future reminder that I stayed strong.
it sure is it challenging journey and often times Facebook or TH-cam requires us to really examine ourselves in such a vulnerable state. All our flaws are on display. However, at the end of the day, I always try to remind myself. I’m not a brain surgeon. No one‘s gonna get hurt and it’s simply a video. I’m gonna share online. Overtime I’ve been able to achieve a lot of things. I’m proud of, you I’m My channel up to the next level. thanks for the comment sending peace and power
Always enjoy your videos, Brian. I don't really know how to explain the path to TH-cam success, other than making videos. Spend 3 days editing a labor of love that gets 100 views, then sit down with a camera in the park and talk for 30 minutes, upload it and get 8K views. It seems random, but if I had to say what the difference is, it's being comfortable on camera, knowing the subject matter, and just being authentic. And no matter what happens (100 views or 8K) make another video right away.
Thanks Brian G Johnson! I liked and shared!😊I just turned 60 and have been doing TH-cam for a long time. I did make a bit of money before the monitization requirements changed.
Brian another awesome and informative video. I am focusing more on views and watch time at the moment because having subscribers is pointless without the views and watch time. Have a good Sunday and week ahead.
Subscribers are not pointless. Totally disagree with that statement. I understand the perception behind that but one thing to consider is that when someone subscribes it sounds a very very powerful engagement signal to the algorithm, which can help a video actually get more views. That being said at the end of the day, I don’t think it really matters too much as long as people are focused on making videos viewers really engage with. Glad you enjoyed the video my friend
"The moment you stop blaming the algorithm, which you can't control"... Now there's advice that works in all goals in life! No good to blame what we can't control. Find out what we can do.
Hey Brian, I started our channel about 3 years ago now, I’m 57 and really enjoy it, we’re just about to hit 7000 subscribers, I’ve got a really loyal subscriber base, once people find us they seem to stick around, our channel is predominantly about travelling on motorcycles, getting some serious traction is hard, not sure if it’s the topic, the thumbnail, us? Not sure but I wish I knew, love the information you provide
One thing to consider is that people don’t subscribe for thumbnails, or topics, or titles. They can help a channel once the average nation and watch time metrics are high, but I would focus on that. Focus on the engagement signals like subscriber gain, watch time, And screen click through and more. For me, I think the easiest way to do. This is focus on average view duration. Viewers that clearly triggers and signals the algorithm.
@@BriangjohnsonTv so what would you consider a good average view time? I’m sitting at around 50-55% across the channel, we’re gaining a consistent 2-300 subscribers per month now, not sure if this is good when here you say you’re gaining in the thousands, I believe our content is good, maybe because we are producing predominantly Australian content and our population isn’t as high as other areas especially in the motorcycle/Harley Davidson niche? Thanks for responding, really appreciate your channel, keep up the great work
The right mindset is also important. When you start a channel, there will be no gratification for a long time unless you create a realistic roadmap with achievable milestones.
I started my channel as I turned 60 and have had a blast exploring a creative side of me that had been trapped for far too long. My channel grew consistently and every now then got a nice bump when other very successful channels gave me an honest shout out. But it took consistent effort and being willing to learn new skills. Don't let age stop you. Get out and do it.
I was closer to 60 when I started my TH-cam channel. I figured I could retire either with it or on it. I had a clear objective in mind for exactly what I wanted to make. I've been at it for 2 years now, monetized recently, but several more years to grow. Video making is both challenging and rewarding that it satisfies me. The audience appreciation is a pleasing bonus but it's not a requirement for me. This is my idea of taking up painting for a retirement hobby, lol.
@@BriangjohnsonTv I've seen a few of your videos but I don't think I've commented before. I was kind of laughing at your title because you're like the fifth one I've seen that's targeting people over 40. Why people over 55 should start a TH-cam channel: supplemental income, continuing education, and social connections that you can't gain from becoming a Wal-mart greeter.
I wish I did it sooner, not because I feel I would be further ahead but because having a channel is a ton of fun. Start today and stop worrying about perfection.
TH-cam is without question such an incredible opportunity. Yes! It’s incredibly fun, and exciting, and exhilarating. Yes, it’s challenging, and a lot of the time we’re left wondering what do I need to do?. At the end of the day it makes such an incredible journey for anybody no matter their age, race, creed, religion, and more. TH-cam is hard and it’s also worth it. Thank you for your feedback.
My thoughts about TH-cam :Quality Content: Always prioritize high-quality audio and visuals.....Algorithm Cycles: The TH-cam algorithm can be unpredictable.....Learning from Experience....Engagement.....Optimization: Use SEO techniques to optimize your video titles, descriptions, and tags......Consistency

I started 1 channel in my late 30s and started 3 more in my 40's. Great advice Brian for those that are getting started, and for us that need refreshes on what we should keep striving to improve!
Great video Brian! It's jam-packed with real information you could only have if you have been on YT a long time and found success. I have noticed huge changes in this last year in channel views and what my audience needs. During the pandemic, my audience wanted comforting deep conversation videos but those types of videos are not what my audience needs now. I find a channel is like being in a relationship and trying to figure out what your partner needs. I have stopped watching 98% of all the channels I used to watch for mostly the same reason, complete stagnation and it's painful...and I see it in myself and it has to change. Have a great week! xo Sues & D

I stopped by your channel and your titles looked like they were based on some of the things you’re working on and you’re focused on. I’m sure there’s an audience out there for those topics, but I would encourage you to do a little bit of keyword research so you were understanding what are the topics and how your audience is looking for those topics on TH-cam. What exactly suggestions are you talking about in analytics my friend? Generally speaking. I’m very pro on the analytics and there’s a lot of good information to be found in leveraged. Lunch sounds great.
Yep. My channel definitely requires an investment. I’ do realize that I’m only competing against myself. Striving to improve my watch time has been a challenging but doable goal. Especially in my late 60s, it’s been a fun and interesting experience to produce YT videos. My channel has been gradually growing as it moves forward in manageable increments. I’ve learned so much along the way. It’s always encouraging when new subscribers pleasantly surprise me. Thanks for all of your encouraging words. They are so helpful. 😍👍

Great video Brian. ❤❤ I've been meaning to ask if you know how I can add different language subtitles to my videos to reach a broader audience. You did a live a few months ago with a lady that does that and I want to do it to my videos
Hi BgJ! I saw you on Kevin K. Site. I enjoyed the talking, Good talk, I smile when we say “over” 50, For me 50 was a hard year.. But now 60+, is all good. Question : Where did you meet him? 🌴🌴Aloha
Late 30s and I just had to really think to myself if I’m getting too old for this. I did the live streaming and TH-cam thing for 7 years and I’m just not pleased with the results. May be time to hang it up.
TH-cam is very challenging for sure and it can be really a grind mentally. That being said, I’ve always believed that everybody has one highly successful channel within them. Maybe a slight pivot and direction, a new channel, a new niche, a new way to produce videos, a new style And who knows. Regardless, I’m sending you peace and power.
It's never enough lol we always want more. I thought I'd be much happier once I hit 1000 subscribers. Now i just really want the watch time metrics to monetize. Once i hit that im sure ill want even more lol

i´m a bit sick of watching people talk on youtube, all about buy this buy that, affiliated links ect .. I´m wondering how I can start a channel promoting my music (without musicvideo), and how NOT to sounds like a sells man ... of cause I need finance like everybody else, just hope ads can make it up..
Yeah, I get it. I guess for me. I just try to focus on what I can control. I can’t control other people. I absolutely promote products and services from time to time. But honestly not that often. More of the time I make videos just like this. I’m sorry you’re sick of things. As far as you and how you can promote your music. A cover music that’s popular on TH-cam half of the time and do your own thing half of the time this way you’re making it easier for people to find you.
Focus on the video quality, my friend, your delivery, the topics and how you talk to the camera. It takes a lot of time and patience. It took me a long time to get up and running myself about two years.
For me… I enjoyed your earlier videos for the comedy as well as the info… I guess it’s how I learn… the quirkiness was my vibe ya know… and honestly I stuck around because of you 🗣️BRIANGJOHNSON
Thank you so much for that feedback. What’s interesting is I pretty much always had an audience I did a bit better when I mellowed out slightly. But for me, I enjoy it to be fun and quirky from time to time it’s part of who I am. there is now way Brian is over 50 years old - he looks 42
58
Brian your the Man!
you’re too kind Steve, glad we’ve shared the TH-cam journey for so many years. Onwards we go, my friend.
@@BriangjohnsonTv I will get myself motivated again for this channel. I have 3 and soon to be 4 monetizes channel and I find it difficult to pay equal attention to all of them.
Why do I see so many videos on this subject lately? We’ve been here a LONG time lol.
It’s a popular topic currently. And yes, we’ve been here a long time. I’ve been here for eight years. Started when I was 50.
Great video Brian. ❤❤ I've been meaning to ask if you know how I can add different language subtitles to my videos to reach a broader audience. You did a live a few months ago with a lady that does that and I want to do it to my videos
Ditto Dub - that’s the software that she’s using my friend.
@@BriangjohnsonTv thank you so much. I'm going to check it out.
@@BriangjohnsonTv that was such an awesome and inspiring video with you guys.
Hey Brian! Hard to believe we're going to click over another decade next year.
I know!!
I definitely pay closer attention to others edits and when watching movies/ads since i started editing, and i start thinking about how to do the same.
Me too, my friend and it helps a lot. I think that’s food for our creative soul that helps us move forward and created a higher level.
Hi BgJ! I saw you on Kevin K. Site. I enjoyed the talking, Good talk, I smile when we say “over” 50, For me 50 was a hard year.. But now 60+, is all good. Question : Where did you meet him? 🌴🌴Aloha
Welcome!
I'm only 39 thanks Grandad
It’s like you got a Headstart!
@BriangjohnsonTv I need a head start and steroids to get to your level of quality videos but I'm enjoying the journey
@@BriangjohnsonTv you always just know what to say ❤️😂. Haha no you’re right.
It's never enough lol we always want more. I thought I'd be much happier once I hit 1000 subscribers. Now i just really want the watch time metrics to monetize. Once i hit that im sure ill want even more lol
I think so, and I felt the same way I don’t as much anymore. I still want more views and growth, but I am satisfied with where I’m at sort of?
I have 45 and I feel a little ridiculous by sharing screen 📺 with zoomers. Although I have 8K followers, YT pays very little outside US
If you enjoy the journey, I think that’s all that matters. I get to self-consciousness. Sometimes I feel that too.
@@BriangjohnsonTv I enjoy spending time on TH-cam, but when you compare the hours invested with other projects that offer better financial returns, it’s clear-money talks
I'm 63 and 25 subs from 7000. I push 70,000 views a month. It takes time to build a following. I think slow growth is better for the long haul.
Thanks for your thoughts and comment my friend. It’s a long game for sure. It took me a number of years to really find my feet. I had to do a lot of self inspection, but when I did that, it really helped me. I’m glad we share the journey together. Sending you peace and power.
Turn 48 Tomorrow! Gonna keep pushing on youtube
happy birthday, my friend!
Very nice and informative video. My big reward is to meet people who watched my videos and love them.
Love that!
Over 60 (me) too!!!!!
Age is just another number that is limited but only if you think it is.
So very, very much love that!
i´m a bit sick of watching people talk on youtube, all about buy this buy that, affiliated links ect ..
Over 60 and struggling to get to the 1st tier of monetization after 3 years
Focus on the video quality, my friend, your delivery, the topics and how you talk to the camera. It takes a lot of time and patience. It took me a long time to get up and running myself about two years.
I am 50 and have 3 youtube channels. Two are monetized. My two daughters help me with the channels.
Goodness, I love that! Thank you for sharing and congrats!
I'm 62, I started 3.3 years ago Brian, I'm wearing out 😢
TH-cam is certainly a grind. You can make it … focus on what you can do to improve, you can do that … improve. and so can I.
I never try to remove that completely and I think you’ll be surprised by some upcoming videos where I take payroll to the next level and make it real and live
just love the community here in this comment section
Blessed
I started at age 68 three months ago and just hit 1000 subs.
That is absolutely epic. Thank you so much for sharing! Congratulations on hitting 1000 subs.
I searched bikini.
That's one of the best topic to get viewers!

That’s amazing thank you so much for sharing!
Why not start life doesn't wait around? FAIL = (First Attempt In Learning)

Love that
@@BriangjohnsonTv I come and go, but I like TH-cam for some reason.
