I just cannot stop listening to this recital. It's all so beautiful What an incredible musician he was. When I hear other pianists' versions of the same works, they seem 'tame' now, somehow lacking a spark of personality and spontaneity.
Yeah, initially, the andante from Schubert's Sonata, D. 960 felt a little rushed, for my taste. However, as I listened I became engrossed in the moment and forgot my initial resistance.
Kocsis always has such dedication towards phrasing, voicing and the greater line. He was able to produce exactly the sound he imagined or desired in his head. The ballad is so fresh here, even the moments that seem far beyond the limits of the score draw you into his world as the playing is so convincing.
What beautiful, full sound he produces. Sadly he rarely came to London and so I did not hear him live. A true musician in the round and a very great and humble man. A lesson to today's so called stars. I'm not particularly a Chopin fan but there is another live recording on youtube when he was a teenager and one of the encores is Op 10, number 3 etude. I have never heard it played so beautifully, like sands washed up on the shores of time, and from one so young.
Ooh I tried to find the live performance that you mentioned here but no luck! Any chance you can share a link? I'm a great admirer of Kocsis. Thank you.
thank you for posting all those Kocsis recital. I must admit I tended to underestimate the magnitude of this pianist, knowing only his studio recordings. But his piano playing here is glorious, with an incredible insight in all the works he plays.
is there a pianist with more live records from the vynil era? i think he was rather living in the concert halls then in the studio. and fortunately thousands of videos, radio live transmissions are there. that's what remained for us here. my Mom was playing a duet once with him at the academy. its a pity that it was not recorded, since it was just for fun.
What are you talking about? There's so many skilled pianists out there, the skill is only increasing in numbersof masters and virtuousos if anything, with education easier and easier to access via the inernet and the international piano community coming togeter in an increasingly connneted globe, sharing their talent and knowledge with others out of love for the form. You should browse around some modern classical artists, many amazing Russian and Japanese pianists rising recently in particular. Some as early as 9years old for their first concerto.
What an extraordinary musician, showing such understanding and depth, where technique is merely a means to deliver his thoughts! Wow! Thanks for uploading this, Tony!
He was the master interpretator of Liszt's music, just listen those two pieces on this recording. Who registered this live concert? Thanks for posting it, it is really exquisite!
Like Murray Perahia, he was in his early twenties when I heard him in Paris. All Debussy programme... Both were destined to greatness and we all knew it in our young bones.
gorgeous playing but a bit disappointed with the F minor ballade.... it's is an astounding technical display but seems at times rushed and a bit too bombastic.
@@farahmand4771 where is he disrespectful? There is nothing wrong in liking Chopin in a sweet way , just like it is ok to like Chopin in a more direct way .
Kocsis's Mozart is all screwed up. His Chopin is ridiculous. His Schubert lacks lyricalness which his cold head never learned. That man is a marketing fake.
I was so lucky and I was there at this concert. During the 4th ballad, we couldn't breathe for 10 minutes.
One of the greatest recitals ever
Zoltan war ein phantastischer Pianist, Künstler durch und durch und ein großer Musiker...
Amazing artist I was so lucky to hear in person in Paris in 2001

gyönyörüen jàtszik. Büszkèk vagyunk rà!
astounding control and voicing. so lyrical as well. The world lost an absolute jewel of an artist.
No wonder Richter was so fond of this pianist! Such penetrating intellect and you can tell he really loves what he is playing.
For sure he was special.

thank you so much! i can feel his love for Schubert
uno dei pianisti piu' limpidi e delicatii dall'espressione intensa....
Kocsis’ kind of depth despite his youth is found in not a single contemporary young pianist. Hardly found in today’s seasoned veterans, too.
Not in anyone alive today. He was the last great pianist of the C20th

Imo his Rachmaninov Paganini is the best recorded . It's impossible to do better

The man loved his F minor
Hello Sonata shubert in b flat major, second movement is in cis-moll
His playing has the same forward moving, no nonsense quality of Richter's.
The last key of one piece is the first the key of the next one.
Somebody knows where was this concert ?
He looks like the kind of kid that eats his veggies and cleans his room
