They are non slip work shoes, same kind people wear in restaurants. The logs are fairly non slip to begin with by design but it does feel like something that should be regulated since that’s definitely an advantage

I don't know the rules to this but deliberately splashing water on your opponents face feels like an underhanded move, even if it is legal. And especially since the other guy wasn't doing that, I was kind of rooting for him to win too.

However, “two competitors stand on a floating log and each tries to make the other fall off. They may spin the log, rock it up and down, *or* *splash* *water* *at* *their* *opponent* , but may not touch their opponent and must keep one foot in contact with the log at all times. The birler who wins the best of five rolls wins the match.” So it is allowed in the rules to do what he did.

Also I said this already- it may be legal but it still feels like an underhanded move like it may not be in the spirit of the game. It's trying to test your ability to balance on the log and if you have to distract your opponent by splashing water on their face, it takes away from the purpose of the game. It's like a running race where you're allowed to kick your opponent's shin or trip them. Yes, it's allowed and technically the only goal is to reach the finish line first but if you have to trip your opponent to win maybe you don't deserve to?

The splashing is legal, and the guy doing it probably knows he can't beat Suspenders guy head-on. Look how balanced he is, his only shot is to try and disorient him. The splasher is fighting for his life to stay on that log to begin with. Suspenders also knows he has more skill and doesn't need to splash to win.

The man who won also has a stout, "spread-out-wide" frame with thick legs. And the taller guy has much skinnier legs and a thin torso. The winner likely has greater skill at balancing, but the other guy is at a clear competitive disadvantage.

That is a law of stability in physics playing out there, the closer you are to the ground (and in this case a platform) the the more stability you gain. The shorter man is more stable because he is closer to the center of gravity than the taller man
