Realise I'm late with this comment, but great video. For me, I've found that I like firmer protection against the helm (e.g. closed cell foam) and squishy padding against my face and skull (e.g. open cell foam). I tend to put closed cell foam on the inside helms that can touch my face as well. For me, it's worth putting some velcro stickers in the helm (away from rivets, welds) and then make my helm liners such that you can pull them out for inspection, washing, replacement, etc. Lately I invested in a bunch of Oregon Aero military pads, which conveniently are velcro compatible, and started experimenting with just those. It works pretty well, but in my case it's a bit tight and makes me cranky as my head starts to hurt - and there's no thinning them. It gets a bit gooey over the years, but you can also put in these thin adhesive matts that deaden sound in those boom cars that drive around rattling with bass; they're sort of a black tar with a tinfoil front on them.
- How's the Shocktec Foam Holding up? I see that Nadler Metalcrafts carries it now as helmet padding. Would you say it's overkill for padding knee cops?
The gel and the foam are still going strong in my helmet 2+ years later! I might have said it was overkill at one point, but as I get older I start to think you can’t be too kind to your knees. Your knees are a finite resource. EVA will work fine, but if you have the shocktek, there’s no reason to deprive yourself. Thanks for watching!
If you use a cone bit in a die grinder it makes those holes a lot easier to make bigger and you don't break bits I've used it on a bunch of projects and help a lot
While hardened steel is a paint to drill it might be worth it to make holes near your ears to assis in hearing and reduce ringing. There’s also rumors that if you put in strong magnets inside the helmet it stops the ringing? I’ve not tried it yet but looks interesting to test.
Hey man good to see you love the video great information still getting your horn done the horn has been polished need to make the stand I know what you're talking about full-time work been real busy myself
a problem with padding over suspension liners is that you have a physical medium between your skull and the helmet. with that against your head, it allows the soundwave (the shockwave/concussion from the impact) to have said soundwave travel and get to your skull. the suspension liner moves when it gets hit and that allows the impact to get dissipated with the movement. you do mention that early in the video, just saying and explaining the science for whom it may concern. id have padding in some form to go with the helmet nonetheless as well. also id recommend polishing the rust off and then painting over it, you need to remove the problem first yfm
Simple really... just find yourself a soul gem and an enchanting altar (or a sigil stone from the heart of an Oblivion gate), learn an invisibility spell, give it a pithy name like "Memory Hole", and then order it from a guy in India, go to your shopping cart and click "enchant" and Bob's you're uncle.
It's actually holding up pretty well. My only concern is that the gel is heavier than regular EVA foam. It's not noticeable at first, but gets more so as time passes.
@@LordXerus do you think it offers anymore protection than regular foam? i ordered my helm from aleksey perebeynos, pretty solid armorer, was doing research on different paddings when i found your vid, trying to prevent concussions etc
I think you'd have to do some precise scientific measurement to answer that question. I feel like the gel, being more elastic than foam in general would be better at dispersing the energy, but that's just my subjective opinion. I'm pretty satisfied with my gel/foam combo.
Those are my performing gauntlets. I would never use them in a fight because the fingers are not encased so they do not meet the minimum safety requirements.
@@bamcorpgaming5954 I havn’t really thought about it lately, which I think means it’s performing rather well. The only complaint I have about it is how it makes contact with my gorget, and that can be fixed with some trimming.
Forbidden jello................. Also sharpies are alcohol based, so try hand sanitizer, but not a strong straight rubbing alcohol as it might damage the product (very drying)

Thank you! I shall endeavor to be worthy of such a kindness!
Any day that brings a new video from Lord Xerus is a good day indeed. It’s great to see you, Mi’Lord 😁
You are a scholar and a gentleman!

13:24 damn, nice Helmet of invisibility!
Any idea where I can get one of my own?

Thank you! I always try to embody the national values of [INSERT COUNTRY]!
thats funny i was actually researching this stuff to put in my helmet when i finally get it. how did it hold up? would you buy again?

are those gauntlets approved for hmb? they look like they go up the forearm a bit too much

@@LordXerus yea i wasnt sure. they look nice though!
@@bamcorpgaming5954 Thanks! Truthfully, I bought them before I really knew what the requirements were for SCA, but they present well on screen.
@@LordXerus so how did the gel/foam play out long term?

Oh good I’m glad your ok I was worried about that foam padding giving you brain damage. Especially with the headache you had been getting.
Still haven't completely ruled out brain damage! But I think it's a step in the right direction.
@@LordXerus definitely the ear ringing is a concern however we all get it as we age .
