The pretty lady is so wonderful on the videos. I can only assume as an Indian women she takes great care keeping her home clean. It would be so nice if she could actually have the vacuum to make her days easier.

She was so upset when the well water her village drinks tested poorly for particulate matter. They gave them filters for home use but she was so concerned for her village. I was pleasantly surprised that the two other water sources did as well as they did. These delightful people may learn from us, but we learn from them, too. Thank you for being a bridge between cultures.

My Simon sure reacted to the sound of the big one! Not as much as Babu to the robot, but Simon Does Not Approve of vacuum cleaners. His late sister, on the other hand, would sit several feet away and watch it critically, like she was judging it, while Simon would go hide.
I don't have a Roomba, but any vacuum cleaner is a blessing.
I had a dog that used to attack the vacuum. She destroyed 3 before I woke up and got one with a metal tube.

My longhaired dachshund has a great deal of distrust when it comes to the Roomba. He's afraid of being mistaken for a dust bunny. Oh, my golly! If it caught his beautiful tail I don't know which one would win the battle.

@@bevtuft3572 It's because if you're in a rural village, vacuum cleaners aren't as useful because of the houses' building material, floor space, and electricity availability. I remember living in a village in China 10 yrs ago and we never had vacuum cleaners either but we had induction stovetops for example.
I understand their amazement at the Roomba. But I'm a little bit tickled by their amazement at the vacuum cleaner. It's been around for over a hundred years now.
Yes, there's a hundred years difference, but for them both machines were a revelation.

I never thought about using one of those robots until I visited my son's house and saw what his did. They're really great.
They're great as long as they don't encounter pet poop.
If you have back issues, etc and can't push a vacuum these are a lifesaver. Instead of waiting for someone else to do it you can do it yourself. You'll have a cleaner, healthier home. Keeping that floor dust in control keeps the dust down everywhere else. I had to quit vacuuming in 1992. My son took over but he was replaced by the Roomba that could do it at my convenience. I'm on my second one and when big sis saw what mine did she got herself one. We live in a large house with cleaning ladies every 2 weeks. We have no problem keeping the floors up with our Roombas in the meantime. Even with all the little bits of nature that cling to my dog until they fall off onto the floor. Very pleased. Easy to empty. Fancy ones now that empty themselves. Program to vacuum while you're gone. That's when @Michael M.'s post can come into play. What a mess!
As a single guy in a two-bedroom apartment who would likely forget to vacuum otherwise, I was quite happy with my vacuum robot, and got one for my mother on the next Mother's Day afterward.
We don't have pets, so no worries about pet poop, and we've had no complaints at all about the robots - the only real work with them is to remember to empty their dustbins occasionally (they tell you when they're full), a little occasional light maintenance to keep the brushes clean (they tend to get wrapped up in long hair), freeing them from the occasional awkward predicament like getting stuck under furniture or sometimes runing over something they can't vacuum (they'll complain when they run into trouble), and dealing with a worn-out battery every few years (the biggest problem with one of these robots, I think!)
It's also nice that they take up a lot less room in a small apartment than a full-sized vacuum would: I keep the recharger under a table out of the way, and the robot hides under there when it's not cleaning. I schedule it to automatically roll out and clean twice a week early in the morning just before I wake up, they make a little noise, but not as much as an alarm clock would, so it's not a bad way to wake up, and the robot is usually done cleaning and back under the table by the time I'm dressed and ready to start my day.
I'm not sure how well it would work in a larger house, and as you can imagine it does have its limits when it comes to staircases, but for smaller areas that don't need much more cleaning than a little light dust, these robots are great!
Aside from the battery needing to be replaced eventually, I can't think of any real complaints - it's one of my favorite time-saving household convenience gadgets....

These wonderful people remind me that we take so much for granted. A simple vacuum cleaner has been around a lot longer than I have, yet they still have never seen one. We need to do a lot more to bring economic equity to all people. There shouldn't be anyone who has to go without any more.
it is crazy isn't it when you realise how broken the 'system' really is when in wealthy countries many electronics and equipment etc actually have built in obsolescence, basically designed or programmed to fail after a certain time at which point most people have effectively been 'trained' to discard that item as trash and just buy a new one.
Yet at the same time there are people still today - smart, intelligent, amusing, hard working people, who have never even seen a vacuum cleaner before let alone used one (or any of the other things to which they have been introduced recently as we see on the channel).
It is kind of mind boggling really, or at least it is to me anyway.
I really hope they let the women (I think she is maybe called Ruby?) keep at least some of these items she has been shown, especially things like the vacuum cleaner.
I have noticed that generally the men seem to just see the gadgets and things as interesting curiosities and oddities, but seem more interested in joking about together themselves than about the different things, especially when it is Babu and Badshah.
Whereas with Ruby not only is she genuinely interested and fascinated, trying to work things out and understand them. And from her responses it is clear to see that she realises how much easier these items could make her life, and thus we also glean some insight into how tough life must be for so many women
(and yes I know not always or only women, although generally it is the women especially in these circumstances)
It must be so monotonous, especially for women like Ruby who seem very sharp and intelligent and keen to learn, just spending life bogged down in the drudgery of daily tasks and chores without the aid of modern appliances.

I like you are showing them modern, useful items. I use my Roomba, which I call Rex, every other day. He slips perfectly under the sofa and chairs so I don’t even have to move furniture. Rex will eat my socks or anything I leave lying around, so he has trained me to be neater.
We have a Henry Hoover, it is a vacuum cleaner with a hat and a face on it! haha
Henry is awesome. The town I grew up in (and I still live nearby) is where the factory is where they were founded. I've always been proud of that. I wouldn't get another vacuum cleaner because I'd feel like a traitor lol

I’ve used several of the robot vacuums. I don’t like them. They don’t hoover as well as an ordinary good quality hoover does and the silly little cloth that they say washes the floor is no good for anything. I prefer my steam cleaner and washable pads for my floors and a Henry hoover and a dyson stick vacuum. Vax are very good vacuums too.
By “Hoover” do you mean vacuum?

I’d like to see Badshah have a better hat, more like Babu’s. Also a small scarf to tie under his shirt instead of the bow tie. English gentlemen often wore a silk scarf around their neck and tucked down the front of a shirt. They were either called Double Ascots or Cravats depending on the way they looked untied. Country gentleman often still wear them today.
