We made it to the album that has been talked about the most in my comment section of all NF videos! The search is finally here and although I already did the "Search" song months ago, "Leave Me Alone" is definitely bringing the energy we needed heading into this new journey!

The people in white are letting go of their burdens, this is shown by how they are changing from black clothes to white clothes and having their fake smiles wiped off. So as NF watches this happen he also considers letting go of his own burdens. That's the chorus "Hold up my balloons and cover up my face, I can feel them weighin' on me every day, I should let 'em go and watch 'em float away, But I'm scared if I do, then I'll be more afraid".
And in the last scene he's letting go of a few of them.
Exactly. He's also worried that if he let's them go he won't be the same person or have the same success. Feels he's gotten success from rapping about his burdens. That his creativity may leave with his burdens, as the ppl in white seem robotic and not creative. But he knows if he doesn't he could end up like the older guy with the black balloons, unable to do anything. So he's trying to find a balance, giving up a few burdens, testing the waters.

Awesome reaction!! The ones In dark clothing are still fighting their demons. The ones in white still have burdens but have learned to live in the light with them instead of the darkness. In the end he is turning some burdens over to God.

fun facts about the video. It was shot in the abandoned Six Flags New Orleans that was destroyed by hurricane Katrina. Every person in the video is a fan. NF posted a casting call for fans. I wish I lived closer, I would have went!

As someone who's suffered from mental health issues my entire life. The verse " I go to my room and I sit in my corner, and talk to myself in a language thats foreign" is literally something I've done my entire life and couldn't be presented in a better way than by NF who I'm sure has done the same forever.
I'm 33 now and my man cave setup is the same setup in a different home I had when I was 16. And I've moved 6 times, but my spot has never changed and it's my safe spot.

The Search is probably my favorite album. To be fair, all of this albums are my favorite 🤣

My understanding, is that the prison cage from "Outcast" is now represented by his mobile cage (shopping cart) he sits in. He told us he was opening the door to his mansion in "Outcast" and he is now searching for himself, and answers to his problems, but still hasn't let go of all his burdens. "I should let them go and watch them float away (balloons/burdens), but I'm scared if I do then I'll be more afraid." He's scared of no longer being embraced as the NF we all know and love if he gets better.
Also, the people in white are his fans/people all around us that have gone to get help and are seeking therapy and still carry a few burdens (as we all have them, and we see them carrying a few balloons). We see a station where a lady is wiping off their fake smiles (painted on) that represent the mask of pretending everything is ok in their lives. They're getting help. We see those wearing black as a representation of those still suffering with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, and so on, walk into a tent, changing into white (symbolizes purity) clothes, and tossing their old black clothes (symbolizing their old selves) on the ground.
These people have discovered NF's music and learned they're not alone. They're getting help/therapy in this fan base community of loyal empathetic people.
Furthermore, the old man in the shopping cart is old NF, if he remains in the prison of his mind and never fully lets go of his burdens. Fame is referenced and personified, but not actually in the video. We hear the phone ring at the beginning and the end of the song. That's fame calling, as he mentions in "No Name." NF became essentially mainstream famous with the drop of "The Search" Album (album 4) and beat out Chance the Rapper's sales as the Number One Billboard artist.
The hand reaching from behind the veil represents GOD. NF detaches 2 of his burdens and he is contemplating giving them away to GOD finally, but the video fades to black before we see if he fully lets go....right as the phone rings again with fame calling him. If you understand mental health he's actually stylized the flow to illustrate it. First half of the verse he's talking it out. Feeling unheard, he snaps on the 2nd half like a mental breakdown. First half of the hook is the cool down, 2nd half he snaps again. It becomes a cycle in the song.
At least that's what I get, I go through that. Trying to express what's wrong, to snappin with fast talking, to calming down, to just wanting to be left alone/feeling targeted or cornered. It's a vicious cycle

So my take of the people in white is that they represent people who don't carry as many burdens as the people dressed in black.

The Search has a very deliberate order and each song adds to the layer of the story so it should be listened to in order. Except for one song, "Why". This song introduces us to the cart, the balloons, and the re-emergence of the fake smile. So watch "Why" next and then keep going in order. Loving all of your work! "Why" was the first song released for this album.

hey my man, this is how things break down to the best of my insight. That wasn't fame in the shopping cart. Remember, the shopping cart is a mobile manifestation of his mind. The old man was a look into the future for Nate to show himself what he could be if he doesn't take care of his mental health. Black balloons = burdens, yes. The fake smiles are being wiped off, not put on like in other songs (outcast, therapy session)....stop being fake, be who you are. The people in the white also have some balloons, but not nearly as many as Nate does. I think the people in white represent those who have found themselves and are dealing with their mental health, they still have problems, but they're actively dealing with them. The people in black, ie nate, are still lost and are in capable of managing their burdens. The hand at the end can either be a physical hand of God that takes away the pain or it could be a future Nate, who takes away the burdens of others through his music. Look at Nate dressed in white in Paid my Dues, especially the hand who holds up the album out of the toilet towards the end of the song as another point of reference.

Like NF said in "Outro" would he be the same if he didn't have all these issues? He should let his burdens go, but he is afraid to change. "Change" as he said on "The Search" is a song he wrote. Al of this is related. The Search is a mini-journey. My take on the people in white is they have accepted more God's grace so they walk with less burdens. They are getting the false smiles wiped away as they become more authentic. They have various amounts of burdens still showing we ever fully healed in this world. At the end he is struggling to give a few burdens to God.
