I have one who's half basset and half dachshund. She gets stubborn from both sides of the family! It's a hound thing, but I do think bassets are the champs.
Talk to him sweetly and tell him how handsome he is... and maybe give him some pets and massaging on his neck and back..I'll bet that he will pep up just a bit anyways!! I would definitely talk to him and play with him a bit... he looks awfully sweet to me!!! ;-)
