When my daughter was 13, I taught her how to operate my excavator. A year and a half later, she can now strip level a bench cut, by eye, faster than I can. And she is a smooth operator, too - my sons are way more aggressive, but no more effective...😂... Kaitlin, good job - very well done. You're a good man, August, and a tremendous father. 👍🇦🇺🪓
Hey awesome story thanks for sharing. I’m a builder and employe two female apprentices it’s interesting the difference between the guys and the girls I can’t pick one as over all better but the girls pick up stuff the guys don’t and vice versa. From a boss point of view it’s interesting seeing the strengths the girls have in detail and finishing and the guys how they pick up different tasks etc
It's tough to do something for the first time but Kaitlin did a good job. It's also tough to be a dad and see your child go through that experience and realise that it wouldn't be good for the relationship. For me, I think Damien was the perfect pick to bridge that gap.
I love this every single time he does a video with kaitlin, she just gets better and better. I love when a female isn't scared to get into tree work.she will be a amazing climber / operator if she chooses that route.
August, you handed the training reins over to Damian because you knew you would be more direct with Kaitlin. Damian is a calm and reassuring teacher so she feels confident to operate the crane. Blessings to you all.
Just so humbling to watch a father and daughter together doing what they love. With Damien as a watchdog is just awesome,my son started tree work a year ago and I can't wait til he comes on board with me 😊
Fantastic job she did. Kudos to you for putting Damian in charge of training. She’ll always remember this as her first picks with her dad and Damian. Soon she’ll be a pro.
Kaitlin is doing remarkable for her first time running crane. and she's got two really great teachers showing her the ropes and taking the time to explain the controls and angels weight positioning. she's going to be a well-rounded operator in no time.
A little fear is good. It helps keep up the caution. A fearless operator, overconfident but under-experienced, creates a huge safety risk. She did good.
I'm a welder by trade. My Son always expressed an interest in teaching. In his teens and early 20's I got him hired out as my helper/ fitter. He was a natural..... He had been welding since he was about 8 years old and had a talent for it. After college, he asked me what I thought about him welding. I said I would help him get started. We put a rig together for him and he went out on his own. He excelled at it and made a good living. After about 7 years he applied for a job teaching welding at a local college. He's been there 15+ years and has a wonderful family. I didn't push him.....but it all worked out.
👍 Awesome job Kaitlin 💫 ♥️🌲 A cool cat with the controls. It’s amazing to watch your tree experience in addition to archery and Agent videos with Hez. Damion is Mr. Cool 😎 as an instructor with everyone he helps, and August you are as well a wonderful instructor😎. Always a joy to watch your videos and listen to your thoughts.
Very impressive Kaitlin, you have made your dad very proud. You did an outstanding job! August, you are a fantastic dad to let your very young daughter learn and do something this difficult and Damian, you were outstanding as a mentor and teacher, calm and collected. I am a 75 yo dad to two daughters and three granddaughters and I understand the amazing bond one has and how precious daughters are. Kudos to you all!
August, well done to recognize the need for someone else you trust to assist the training of your daughter on the crane. And she is learning well and did very well, especially for her first time on the crane on camera. I am happy for all of you! Take care.
Saying this as a dad myself. Beautiful operator and she did a great job!!! Been watching your channel ever since the first speedline episode. God has definitely blessed your efforts August.
August must be so proud he is glowing right now. Very good job Kaitlin, keep it up. Unfortunately my kids decided to go their own ways in life and not work in my business.
You’re a great father August. Parents to child communication is sometimes difficult. I deal with it all the time. Damien is a great mentor for your kids. Hell he’s basically family. Great video as always. You guys ROCK!💪
Mark red on top of those sensitive handles. Also good call on not tutoring your kid directly. I tried that with my oldest son when he needed help with math. I'm really good at math, not so good with the patience. He was a nervous wreck. We got him a sweet lady tutor. MUCH better for everyone.
Congratulations Kaitlin, you did an excellent job. How important it is to have fun when someone is learning new things. Congratulations both, dad and teacher Damien, for such an excellente work teaching her nicely. Thanks for sharing.
I am an educated crane operator,. That means that I was an aprentes for 3 years i in every possible type of crane. I think you all did a great job August in the tree giving instructions, Damian guiding and the lovli girl was resiwing those directions as a Pro. Way to go Cathlin
Looks like she is being attentive it reminds me of the fact that I encourage my 15 year granddaughter it’s always good to learn new things because everything looks good on a resume
Its great to see young people getting to learn hands on to this type of thing. She will grow up to be great….in what ever she chooses to pursue--- i can tell!👍👍👍👍🙂
Great first pick! Your comments about tone reminds me of my experience with my kids in youth sports. Our relationship was much better when I was an assistant coach vs the head coach. It changed the dynamic entirely.
August absolutely love your channel. Love you and Damien!! Kinda crazy that Damien was training his replacement!!😮 Kaitlin you didn’t great job. So jealous of you - operating a crane, seen you climb a tree and top it. You are amazing!! Hope you had a great practice.
My kids Dad always had more patience teaching other children than he had with his own. Like you said, he assumed they already knew how to do it cause they lived with him. Lol. Nope. He wasn't teaching them. He was just doing the job.
Anyone who is learning how to do something new is always a bit nervous about not screwing up 😮 and having a good teacher to help teach them calmly and efficiently 👍
If I were attempting to do that at her age, the responsibility would have paralyzed me. She's a cool headed warrior! August, your trust in her ability and Damien's teaching method speaks volumes about how much you love them both. Thank you for posting!
Awesome job all the way around. Good, dad, good instructor and good operator! She did awesome. And what a good homeowner 😉 for not letting the tree crush the neighbors new RV.
I think the fact that you have such insight into your relationship with your kids counts for so much. Some people would push on regardless, but it lets you make arrangements for training that work really well. Excellent job Kaitlin. Hope to see more of you, especially up trees with a chainsaw in your hand
Kaitlin's first pick was pretty sweet and they just got better as she got more confidence with the controls. Good job on the teaching side Damien and great parenting August!! I can definitely see Kaitlin doing this when she's older, she's got a real nack for it!! 😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Made my weekend. Great to see Kaitlin finding herself. This is how ya grow. In order to learn you have to be out of your comfort zone. Jason is a great teacher. Well done Kaitlin!
Looking like it MIGHT become August Hunicke & Daughter ;-), She always looks like she enjoys the work - important for anyone finding their life work calling. I highly respect the way you put Damien as a buffer for this teaching moment. I've been guilty of being too blunt with trainees on occasion. Not helpful as you noted.
She obviously knows the hand signals and the general operating controls and procedures, which is critical for performing the best on-the-job training. This is what should happen for any beginner and especially for young people. Well done, all. (Hurrah August, for recognizing and dealing well with the overbearing nature of parents!)

Impressive young lady following in her father's footsteps.
Oh my. What poise and calmness. Great job, Kaitlin.

Congrats Kaitlin - well done! (And props to Damien for man-in-the-middle moderation)
Kaitlin is doing remarkable for her first time running crane. and she's got two really great teachers showing her the ropes and taking the time to explain the controls and angels weight positioning.
she's going to be a well-rounded operator in no time.
I'll never forget the Reg Coats skit with your wife and Kaitlin.

You give the young lady confidence and that will spill over to anything she tries.
👍 Awesome job Kaitlin 💫 ♥️🌲

Well done Kaitlin - and well done August for realising that it was best to hand the teaching over to Damien. Go Team Hunicke!
August, well done to recognize the need for someone else you trust to assist the training of your daughter on the crane. And she is learning well and did very well, especially for her first time on the crane on camera. I am happy for all of you! Take care.

"How'd she do?"
Better than I would do! I'd have had to wear diapers to get through doing a crane pick like that.
Kaitlin did a awesome job! No chickens were harmed in the making of this video 👍 When you find a job you love you will never work a day in your life
It is very good to see a young person learning something new and very useful later in life
Congratulations Katelyn. I was holding my breath for you. Damien is a good teacher.
That’s exciting! Damien’s great
She's a natural born operator. Great job Kaitlin!
Treasure those moments. They may be fleeting, hopefully not, and you continue to experience the joy of sharing your life with your precious ones……….
Kay wants her dad to be proud/ God bless her!
That was awesome she did great just like when she climbed and topped that tree a while back!!!
August must be so proud he is glowing right now. Very good job Kaitlin, keep it up. Unfortunately my kids decided to go their own ways in life and not work in my business.
Dads do not make good trainers. This is great, a whole new reason to watch August.
So great to train the young ones on the equipment in the proper way and use. Great to see. Nice work,' Kaitlin .
Great job Kaitlin. Everyone starts with learning.
What a confidence builder for the young lady! Great job K!
You’re a great father August. Parents to child communication is sometimes difficult. I deal with it all the time. Damien is a great mentor for your kids. Hell he’s basically family. Great video as always. You guys ROCK!💪

🔥CONGRATS KAITLIN!! The first of manyy😊🙌
This reminded me of the first time my Dad let me drive the farm tractor when I was ten, an old Massey 290. Thanks for the flashback.
Kaitlin did a fantastic job. Good job and teamwork! 🫶
Awesome first experience on crane picks :) Good teachers, good student!
Hi August, it's nice to see that such a sweet girl enjoys working with her father and participating in his commitment as a father.
