"I want to be a hero by my own standards"
One of the best lines in the series, but I think it's worth looking at. Travis had a surprisingly self aware moment when killing Alice, and why he's doing what he's doing. He tries to be the hero, but it's easier to work for his own ambitions.
Fu just flat out wore it as a title from the start when he learned about it.

This idea never crossed my mind, but i love their parallels. FU's like Travis in NHM1 and Travis is the Death Metal to him in NHM3. Then the whole feedback on fear reminded me quite a bit about Travis fighting Holly Summers. Suda has some amazing callbacks like that, and made this really well written

Another thing that wasn't mentioned is Travis pulled a Batt Jr. by the way he provoked Fuu. The only difference is that Fu had no one he really cared for other than himself. So instead killing a friend and showing their head on a plate. Travis basically tells him he's not shit and that he's not the man he thinks, which actually gets to him.

There's an interesting aspect to Travis being this manifestation of OTAKU, and how it correlates to friendship.
In NMH1, Travis is the LOSER OTAKU. His only friend is the VHS rental shop guy. Henry being the inverse of that, a 'normie vergil' so to speak. It also mirrors how villified nerdy stuff was in the USA.
In NMH2 Travis becomes the Crownless King and everyone is obsessed with becoming him due to his success. This prob was unintentional, but it mirrors what would happen in the future, how nerdy stuff BECAME the mainstream around 2011-2012. 'nerds rule the world'
But this is where we can see the differences in FU vs Travis. FU loves being royalty and having fan adoration from his peers, to the point of him not realizing its all fake due to the power dynamic in place. Travis is freaked out by the fandom around himself, to the point where he goes into hiding in TSA. But Travis did have the power and fame to start an empire..... but he doesn't care about that, he just cares about pro wrestling, anime, and retro or indie games.
This leads into NMH3. FUs friendships only exist due to the POWER he holds. But how about Travis?
Travis and Bishop nearly have their own self radioshow/podcast about Miike films.
When Travis visits Shinobu in the ER, Shinobu is having dreams of pro wrestling.
And when Travis tries comforting Bad Girl, he's recommending anime to her.
Ironically, Travis being a 'LOSER OTAKU' had grounded him into always being a fan. And found a way of having a healthy relationship with fandom, by nerding out with his friends about the weird entertainment he loves.
In contrast, Henry gets blindsided with the MCU and has a toxic fandom relationship, using it as an excuse to satisfy his fantasies. Yet again, with geekdom becoming mainstream with MCU, this actually has happened to a lot of normies. There was in fact a mass depression after Avatar(blue alien movie lawl) came out cus so many people that never seen 'nerd shit' before now realizing the appeal of fantasy escape.... But not being able to maturely handle it.
Basically, Travis is 'healthy fandom', Henry is 'toxic fandom', and FU 'no fandom' (well, more only a fan of himself).

I like how NMH3 flips the meaning of the title on its head from Travis going "there are no heroes only assassins" theme of the first game to "im no hero, just a guy looking for revenge" to literally making so that theres no more "heroes" because they're essentially alien invaders

NMH3 is a rollercoaster of mixed feelings, as Suda stated, there is a lot of cut content, and I noticed it A LOT while playing it, but then, jeez, I loved it's narrative as it is the more Suda-ish of all the four games, not because the bizarre stuff, but the subtext, it is also the game in the franchise with funnier gameplay and mechanics, but the cherry on top is F.U, what a great antagonist, it's my favourite in the franchise with Juvenile, I know most of people don't notice it, but, NMH3's subtext is not even about violence on media anymore, it's a game about friendship, wich is a werid ass topic for a Suda game, but that's what it is, and the fact F.U, as an antagonist, also follows that topic, was a great surprise.

Something I also like about Fu is that his first phase even plays like a NMH1 boss where they're invincible until their attacks are finished and Fu's boss design is very similar as you can't hit him until the eyes close and they only do so after he wiffs an attack.

The beginning for FU was like NMH2 when they killed Bishop. Travis would've done the same thing if he didnt have to play by the rules of the UAA.

Travis touchdown: goes from careless and trigger Happy to merciful. When he begins no more heroes 3 he's moved by the possibility of saving the world
FU: literally calls himself Hero, and does absolutely nothing else
Interestingly FU is a clear expy of Cell from dragon ball cell (goes more unstable as more time passes)
Frieza: Evil aristocrat that has a very bad temper
Homelander from the boys comic: was once decent... Once

I feel like another thing that could explain Henry's story contradicting Jeane's is that they lost their memories (Henry only says HE lost his memories but considering the 3 siblings were all kidnapped by the same group, it's reasonable to assume all of their memories were erased).
Worth noting that Henry knew about Jeane yet Jeane never implied she knew about Henry.
My own personal interpretation (assuming Henry's telling the truth) is that they escaped their serial killer father and then after having their minds erased, Henry was given to new family while Travis and Jeane went back to the old one. Or maybe they also got new families idk

I also love how Travis makes makes time to hang out with friends, whether it's him and Bishop hanging out with a mike podcast inviting other friends along he way.
Visiting Shinobu and Badgirl to check up on them throughout the game till they're ready to fight back
Asking Kamui to hang out with him
It's subtle but a strong indicator that Travis is alot more laid back and happy to live with his friends then chase ambition

wow when you said that travis can't kill that past that really drove down your entire point from your other video about travis' tragedy. I'm also wondering now if these are the consequences he lives with now from killing his past in the first game and all the bloodshed that led up to it. which I guess maybe is the point of the second game with its theme of vengeance. but even now its like he is stuck in an endless cycle of killing that he can't escape and like you said he can't kill his past
