I have watched your videos so many times and every time I do it just amazes me! You have been such an inspiration to me and given me my confidence back to start drawing and painting again! PLUS, you showed me drawing on a small scale is OK! My art professor was always giving me guff about drawing so small........”make it bigger!”, he’d say.....and give me huge pieces of paper and make me draw using the whole sheet. Aarrgg I hated that! LOL Thank you!

I have tried several permanent markers but they seem to dry up too quickly. Have you found a brand that will last a while? It gets old when you start a drawing just to find out that the pen won't draw properly!! Thanks!

why do some artist make those little dots while drawing between and along the lines?
Really do enjoy watching your videos. I've always, always wanted to watercolour paint, but everything i've ever painted looks a little 'muddy'. My problem is knowing what colours to mix with what, and when.
I notice that you always have the same colours next to each other in your pallet, in all your videos, is there a reason for this? I'm assuming you're safe to mix sap green with burnt sienna and Sepia with Phthalo blue?

Thanks Dan. My colors are set up so those I mix together most often are close together. Your two examples are great mixes.

Great Drawing! Have you done any of this type work with Elegant Writer Calligraphy Pens? I have a feeing the Bleed Type Wash would be wonderful. Barb H
+Barbara J Hackworth . Thank you Barbara. I have tried Inktense pencils, water soluble graphite and non waterproof inks. None really suited my style. I am seriously considering trying a calligraphy pen though. Could be fun to experiment with the different line widths I could produce. Thanks for making me think outside my usual styles.

Really liking these vids friend. Mind sharing what type of paper you prefer for pen@wash. I kind of like bristol or an illustration board for it personally. Now I have it in mind to do some more of these myself...with the holiday card season upon us, ever so closely!
Thank you very much Mars. My papers of choice include Arches 140lb Hot press and Cold press paper and Strathmore 500 series Sketchbooks. All are 100% cotton rag.
The rougher surface of Cold Press makes it the less ideal for detail work, but I like the look of pen on it.
Bristol or an illustration board are great for this but less likely to be archival.
Are you selling your work Peter?
Left my galleries a few years ago as we simply travel too much. I do sell little ones on eBay for fun. Plan to add a few small watercolor on canvas paintings and maybe a site to sell them. These were always great sellers in the galleries.

Love, love your technique (and artistry). I love to draw more than paint and so, so in watercolor. This is absolutely perfect for me. I can get in the detail I want (I am a Virgo) in the drawing and complete it with watercolor. I will pull up and share all your videos with like minded friends in my senior multimedia art class.

I'm going to have to get one of these pens. Seem to be real rugged. Kid friendly even.
They're a great pen. Very waterproof. They are not "rugged" for me as my heavy handed style is very hard on the felt nib.

Thans Peter for your video. I have a question: why paint the roof blue if it's going to be orange-like at the end?
+Javier Sandoval . Thank you for Watching Javier. The roof in this painting is not in direct sunlight so the blue is to tone down the burnt Sienna. The end result is different than if I had mixed the two colors together on the palette.

Hi. Yes, Nil followed me for quite a while when I first started posting and some of his videos and paintings are direct copies of my paintings. He will develop a style of his own eventually, but copied works will always come back to haunt a career.
Do you use references when you paint or is it from your imagination?
Hi Neil. This painting was from imagination. I mostly work from imagination/memory. If I use a photo it will be my own. When sketching on location, I paint what is in front of me. Peter

Sometimes you will learn more by just experimenting without trying to do a complete painting. Glad to answer any questions. Peter

How do you know what colors to use for each piece? Are you going off the color wheel or is it just experience? Sometimes when I see you put down a color I wonder why and then you put another color over it that to me appears that it made the previous color disappear while other times you needed both colors to make the color you wanted or the shading that you wanted.
I use a very limited palette for these videos. Experience will teach you how the colors blend with each other.
