Fletcher's brother said it all to him, I was too stubbornly to declare my feelings. Both fletcher and Audrey definitely need to talk to each other, especially if they get married!!!!!
I'm 1hr in, so far so good. Voice actor is great doing all the characters. She's not obsessed over some rando that's going to be jilted at the end. They won't have to hide the relationship from the brother, since he's involved. Hopefully the rest of the book is as good.
Rarely do series get better as they continue, but it seems you are accomplishing that with the Fernleys. Great story, pleasant narration and generous author. Thank you.
I love this book! I think it's my favorite out of all of them in the series so far. I'm curious as to when the next one will come out.? I'm looking forward to seeing how Cornelius's Love story comes about. When can we expect the next book?! I'm excited!❤
The narrator does a lovely job - quite a soothing voice to listen to. However, I found both the main characters quite frustrating. The hero came across as spineless / without a strong backbone while the heroine as a man-chaser and also lacking in sense. I was in two-minds about both of them the whole time.
Honestly! From halfway through I was yelling at Fletcher to stop being such a wuss. He won’t take a risk. He has been told by so many people that she loves him. Seriously how commitment phobic can one guy be. Argggh! So mad at him for letting her go through her life being controlled and not step up and be a man to free her. He only asked her to forgive him for not seeing her. In my opinion he has so much more to apologise for. My favourite scene though was the fountain scene at Voxhall Gardens. Brilliant voiceover. You really drew me in.
I have now listened to the rest of this series so I am listening again. By now all the Fernley family know that Audrey loves Fletcher and Fletcher is not indifferent to her. So Fletcher taking all these seasons of dancing with and conversing with her is even more baffling. This unrequited love story is poignant and so beautifully written. However I still want to grab Fletcher by the lapels and shake sense into him.
5:00:00 I wish there could be a happy medium between Small PP main characters( /weap/ I am not good enough, my crush would never want to be with me even though they are actively pursuing me) and Big PP main characters ( I will destroy anyone that looks at you). Unfortunately Fletcher is very Small PP. He is interested in her AND everyone in his life, except for Audry, is verbally and literally telling him that she likes him, but he won't pursue her because he doesn't have any self confidence. This guy is a barrister! He went to law school in regency England where everyone lies and steals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I agree. Here is how I think it should have happened. “Well Mr Fernley, not everyone is as graceful a rider as you.” Fletcher was all too aware of the curves of her body slumped against him as they caught their breath. As a barrister he should use his head. But his senses were whirling. She was no longer the little girl he had given a swing. She was enchanting. Almost without thinking he lifted her chin and kissed her. Happily ever after. But we would never have got to know Audrey better, nor Moriah or Andrew.
6:00:00 Honestly, I thought the dad was bluffing the entire time. It's totally fine that he wasn't. If my kid spent their life mooning over some guy that hasn't showed any interest, I would start pushing ultimatums as well. It's absolutely wild that someone making £10k a year would want his future wife's dowry property for his mistress. He could just buy her a cottage. Moriah is my favorite. I hope she gets married off camera to a viscount or something. Then of course her husband dies mysteriously after a few years of a blah marriage and a girl child. Then she becomes the 2nd wife of a duke, that already has an heir. She deserves it from the years of dealing with her siblings.
Hr 2:45:40 I'm really annoyed with the brother being so involved now. Andrew needs to be more of a background character, because why in the world is he so invested with his sister sleeping with his friend? I get that the family is close, but there is no reason for him to be picking out fabrics for her dresses. In other books his character would be either the love interest or the gay best friend, so maybe the author just didn't want Fletcher to have a rival. Maybe he could've been a female matchmaker or even another man that Audry knows she isn't interested in. Audry is 23, it's completely possible that she is so obsessed with Fletcher that she wouldn't even consider another love interest.
Overall, a great book. But why do you keep calling her a wallflower after saying she's refused suitors her father recommended because she wants to marry for love? She's a potential spinster, but not a wallflower. And what man on the planet would just forget to read the note AND fail to speak up when he knows the woman he loves is doomed to misery? All Regency conventions aside, at that point he no longer deserves her.
2:12. Fletcher says “I cannot imagine Yorkshire without Audrey there?” Andrew says “You do realise if Audrey marries she will no longer live at Eastwell Manor.” One has to wonder why a seemingly intelligent man, a Barrister, cannot see what his best friend is saying. Audrey will be forced to marry and he must DO something. Even this early in the story Fletcher does not deserve her.
The sibling relationships are delightful and welcome change from so many other novels. It's very sweet

Oh dear. Fletcher is the ultimate coward ever!

Narrator is good, the book waffles in the mid section wich lost my interest a bit, i feel this book would make a good short story.
