I've always thought Conan to be a glimmering light of hope for the entertainment that can prove the industry that not everyone in it is fake and it is possible to be a genuine, thoughtful, well-meaning person and still make it in Hollywood even despite getting screwed by Jay Leno. the late night wars -He gave up his spot on the late show to replace Jay Leno on the Tonight Show - big boost for his career. Jimmy Fallon took Conan's old spot -BUT - when things didn't work out for Jay in prime time - he wanted his old job back - Conan was displaced - but he was a gentleman - and didn't ask to go back to his old show and kick out Jimmy Fallon - he didn't feel it was right- he's a stand up guy.
Nice to know that doing that right thing worked out well for him - we know it worked out well for Jimmy Fallon LOL

My favorite: He was a guest on the "Emily" show. He pours out the contents of a bag...she was saving it for another guest...he finds a chocolate bar in there and starts eating it. She was SO flustered...she said "I don't like you any more!" He brought her to her real, AUTHENTIC self. Such is the greatness of Russell Brand. All done in a spirit of fun and with so much affection.

It's interesting to me how different people read the situation here in a different way. Personally I thought Conan was very annoyed and uncomfortable, but not because he felt intimidated but because Brand doesn't come from a collaborative frame, he wants to show off by navigating the direction of the conversation and dominating him with his intrusive posture and that can be unpleasant and really irritating if it's the most prevalent emotion during any discussion.
iridescentraindrops I like your view point of the whole situation because I see Conan as really liking Russell as Conan has been in show business for YEARS and has come across many different personality types and Russell's exuberance isnt anything new to him.
I get the feeling Conan really enjoys having Russell on his show, like he does when Bill Burr is on....

I love watching the body language of people russell interacts with. He's so unpredictable that conan is terrified to let him into his personal space, he instinctively backs away when russell leans in and crosses his arms.
Russel is one of those people SO full of intense energy. People get uncomfortable by it but then they realize it's all just the most positive energy in the world, and seem instantly comforted by it.

There are many comments proclaiming Russell as a genius. Personally, I think he's intelligent but wouldn't define him as a genius. The type of people I include in the genius category include the likes of Alan Turing, Nicola Tesla, Buddha etc.

Just thought I would mix it up a bit. No, I'm not a Buddhist but have studied some of teachings passed down from Buddha. I was introduced to his work when studying psychology since some of the modern day therapies are closely related to the philosophy of Buddhism. In fact some don't even consider Buddhism more of a philosophy than a religion since they do not worship a God.

I've never seen Conan as visibly uncomfortable with a guest as he is with Brand. The guy has all the exaggerated and aimless energy of Robin Williams without any of the charisma or humor.
I think you're mistaking Robin Williams approachability and unthreatening physical appearance as more charming.
Russel Brand is sexually appealing and his humour is irreverent in some respects yes, but I believe he just as genuine and thoughtful as Robin was. Robin's humour I found lacked an intellectual component that Russel's exceeds at. All respect to Robin for the wonderful human he was, I personally don't appreciate his humor as much as I can appreciate Russel's.
