I have used the 2000xl since 2015 and thoroughly use the lack of technological advances of the newer MPCs to hear the machine in its raw form (no FX, no plug-ins and very limited touches to the recording). In my book, the stripped down approach works for me. To this day, I have many beats that take me back to '97 when I had the 2000 originally. You said it, the greater reward from the manual work and time invested. Thx!!
NIce! Bought my 2KXL at the end of the last century for round about 3000 german marks (with 32mb ram and output board). Later on I installed FX-board and timecode chip so it's fully loaded now and after replacing some knobs and switches some years ago it's working perfect for a long time now. It's so much fun to make beats with this classic. I agree, the workflow is slower compared to newer MPCs but it's the sound and the groove what brings the joy. I also like the lesser oppertunities and using buttons instead of eyes and screen; you are forced to use your ears. Like you, I like to switch MPCs after some time. Got a 1000 (with JJOS) and a Live 2 also. MPC alongside a DAW and some hardware instruments is studio paradise to me.Thanks for your content Malo! :-)
I have to say I agree with you. I love love love having a 2000 XL. it’s what I started with back in 2001 and I regret selling it both times. But when I decided to go back to having an mpc I realized the smart decision would be to go with the 1000 & the 5000 for older machines. So far it’s worked out very well for me on my channel. I do have the studio 2 to work with the newer software, but I have a hard time connecting with it like you said. Eventually, my plan is to buy an X, and maybe another 2000 XL at some point just to have one because it was where I started.
Whaddup malo! Haha what u said at 6:00 is so true man hahahaha. And like cause u spent so much time on that beat you will invest more time. The sunk cost fallacy, some do it with investments, women, freinds and of course the beats 😂😂😂
@MALOBEATS bro you summed it up completely theres a connection to the grind with these old MPCs i had my favorite vinyl releass just with a 2000XL, and knowing the history, sitting there knowing Pete Rock made sick beats on here gave me the juice, even though i was making house music. It was a struggle but there was a real wax on wax off element to it, 36 Chambers of MPC 2KXL OS hahaha.. Great content bro. Respect from a London house head. Keep going ❤
Hey Malo! Love your content on all things MPC! I see you have the Tascam Model 12 or 16? How do you like it? I'm looking for something that has that analog feel but can work with Abelton. Would love your thoughts on it!
@@malobeats do you mix/master in the model 12 and finish your beats there or do you still export into Ableton? I’m having the worst time trying to get a decent mix and Ableton is cool but I’d rather not have to use it. I typically go with Ozone 9 instead of even opening Ableton
Loved the video and LOVED the beat. But, I have to agree with you: At my age, with work and a family, the XL just takes too much time. If I were a professional with a list of clients and regular placements, it would be worth it, but as a hobbyist, I have to stick with the newer generation MPC. Time is a valuable commodity at this point in my life. Blessings!
Love it love it love it - am sending my MPC 2000 (I started on this 1999) to get an overhaul - i’m a purist - thus is the real deal of sampling - no touch screen (though I love it) ⭐️⭐️
Love what you said about the work this machine requires, and the reward associated with that. I feel like If I had a kid giving them one of these would have a huge impact on them.
Yo! I own same machines as you: One retro and the XL. I also barely touch the XL for the same obvious reasons. However, you can use them together. For example you could sample and chop up with the one, and then sample the chops to pads on XL, it goes pretty fast and you get more crafted cuts rather than just slice by grid. You should try it out ;) also on the XL when you move around the sample dont forget the use shift+slider for a more convenient browsing.
Yo!!! Nice workflow I’ve been doing this lately with my mpc live and it’s o much faster. I just wanted to focus on the XL for this video since I had tons of people asking. Also for the slider, unfortunately my slider don’t work on my xl ☹️. I’m thinking of remodeling my entire XL soon. 🔥🔥
@@kamikaze6295 well the idea is just to use your mpc one like you would normally, create your sample program there, and then simply run the outs from one to stereo IN on the XL, then you can rekord your mpc to XL, just like start rec sample on the XL, play 1 pad and place ot, then the next and so on... the idea is that you can create your chops VERY fast on the one, it would take ages on th3 XL, and when you rekord your chops then to XL it doesnt really take that long when you rec them just by the chop: rec, press pad, stop, place sample.. repeat bang bang.. hope i made sense
Hey brother, I was just watching one of your videos as you’re digging through records and I saw your message pop in lol. Thank you so much for the love and taking the time to share this comment. Much love and blessings to you brother. 🫡
Omg. I was never so happy about starting beat making with the mpc one than after seeing this video. The workflow is horrible. Thank you for opening my eyes
Dude, I’m so glad you pointed this out, despite all the controversy that is going on at the moment, I respect both sides, but if I could only choose one, I’ll definitely stick with my newer MPC’s lol..
This is a weird request but any chance you can send me a high quality sample of the 2000XL metronome? lol I cannot find it anywhere I found some MPC metronomes but not MPC 2000 and I really want to use it in my DAW, please if you could would mean a lot and I can compensate if necessary, ty
Hey Malo, what do you think about the Ableton Push 3? Is it a viable replacement for the MPC Live 2? Would it be a good 'brain' for a dawless setup especially if the plan is to finish the music in Ableton?
If your an avid user of the Ableton daw then I can see this being somewhat helpful, but I would not get rid of my Livemk2 for the push since the price is much higher, and it only gives you two outputs. Even if I’m tracking into Ableton live, I need to be using those external outputs to run my signal through some type of outboard gear, it would’ve been nice to see them add the capability to expand your input, an output with an external Interface, but I don’t think I saw that.
@@malobeats I don't use any DAW at the moment. I am still exploring my gear (microfreak and 404mk2) and I don't own the MPC yet but it was all in plan until the Push 3 release.... that's where my dilemma started. I needed your opinion as a MPC power user on how the Push 3 stacked up. The limited number of outputs is a concern as you have stated. I guess I should wait a few months and see how everyone is using theirs after they are done glossing over the new piece of gear.

why you choose MPC X ?
@ all the buttons at your fingertips and very little menu diving. Haven’t bought it yet. Not in a rush.
That beat is knocking 🔊🔊🔊 Great job Malo 💪🏻
Hey carbon, thank you so much brother this really means a lot coming from you
Love the XL, it's got that sentimental value. Dope beats, Malo!
Excellent work out 💪🏾 on the 2000XL 💯💯💯

My main man, MALO!! Yo I bought one of these today, just like that.
You do nothing but inspire people all day everyday! 🤘🏾✌🏾🤘🏾✌🏾✊🏾
One of the Best MPCs ever. Still have mine.
Came for some inspiration. Got it. Dope video once again man. 🙌🏼
You have a blessed memory 😇 like a lot of musicians n creative people 🙏🏾 use it wisely 🙏🏾🙌🏽
I save every beat on my XL. Some I came back a year later and heard the chops differently. Love my XL... even when I don't want to lol
Yessir!!! That Warm Analog Sound!! of the XL 🔥🔥🔥🔥 The knock is 👌🏾👌🏾🧑🏽🍳🎯 chef approve keep inspiring us King 👑 Malo 💯
Love the Beat💎💎💎 This shows how we are blessed with our MPC's today😅 there was alot of wasted time for simple tasks!
I agree 100% lol thank you for taking the time and sharing your feedback. 🫡🤜🏽🤛🏽
The best ever 🙏🏾

Thanks for sharing! I like your style and positivity. It’s inspiring.
This beat was absolute flames my brother!!!🙏🏾✊🏾💚
Much love brother. Love this showcase
You gonna make me want to get my MPC 1000 out
This is so dope. I had the MPC 2000. I always wanted the 2000Xl with the 8 outs and the effects chip. I saw a young guy who recently got that setup.

I got the 2000 XL exactly like that one
You got the Model 12! That's next on my list.
It makes it so easy to mix using feeders versus touching the touchscreen to adjust levels.

I love this track
This joint is him 🔥
Dope work 🔥 do you have a tutorial on the model 12 and how you use it with your work flow ?
I know you don’t create in the box but maaaan that new RX1200 plugin! I threw your drums on there 🤯

Dangerous kick and clap
Not a MPC head but can you have the pads cut each other off on a 2000XL? No chime group?

Just compare this sound to his last video with the mpc one+ the difference is night and day (assuming he is using the same outboard gear) WoW🔈🔉🔊

What sample is the choir
That snare
Crazy how converters are really being talked about...I miss my mpc 60 cuz!!!
As far as the programs choking the other up maybe check the poly and change drums from mono
I don’t know if is just me or does the Mpc 1000 makes the drum punch harder than usual?

Sample ??

Recycle bro, chop in recycle put it in the 2000xl, save a whole lotta time
Nice beat but turn your inputs down in the sample in it was peaking and clipping like a mug 😂😂😂
