I've been playing Path of Exile for going on 13 years ... not only am I excited to move on to POE2, I genuinely don't understand the trepidation surrounding their new project and the possible ending of their old one. It's a company staffed entirely by passionate people, they've shown that over the years, and I celebrate that they want to make a new project and possibly don't want to be shackled to their first one. They said they'll continue POE1, it just may not be forever. All great things come to an end, it's not the end of the world, and GGG is basically just making the same game but better IMO. It's totally ok to feel saddened, or even crushed by the thought of your favorite thing going away, but GGG isn't, their design philosophies aren't, currently their management and development teams aren't, it's just going to be a new chapter in everyone's ARPG playing life.
It is hard to wrap my mind around, it looks better, it's more thought out, choices appear like they're going to matter more, there's several new systems they wanted in POE1 but didn't have the time and ultimately the foundation to add at a later date. They've learned so much from 12 years of POE1 and this is the level up. I think once people get out of their own ways and try it out for themselves they'll come to the other side. But only time will tell. Note: It reminds me of hardcore and how people think its so insanely unbelievably awful, like I once thought, but then I tried it with an open mind and realized why it exists. It makes you so much more invested into every gem, every orb you pick up is valuable, every tree point, your positioning, everything just becomes magnified, and it gives you such a unique and profound RPG experience that's so much better than regular. Yea dying sucks, a LOT, but it's the cost of having such an incredible experience you can't get otherwise.
@@PherPhur To help you wrap your head around it - just because something looks better or has other systems, etc, doesn't mean it will end up being better. Just like it was with Dungeon Siege III, a total downgrade in playability, albeit with better graphics, at which the series stopped... Hell, just look at Age of Empires 2 versus its next installments. I personally don't play games with slow, annoying animations, and that's all that has been shown from poe2. Also, I hate when the player is forced to fight trash mobs longer than needed. MAYBE it won't actually be like that in the endgame, but from experience I prefer to be sceptical. The only thing from poe2 I like is WSAD movement. I don't wish them a failure with poe2, I just don't want it to affect poe1 negatively. Bringing mechanics like gold (or WSAD at some point, hopefully) is a positive and welcome. But the worst part is the community division that will happen, in my opinion.
@@Kuzka_ Makes sense. I think you're worry is unfounded though, everything ive seen from GGG and having played the crap out of POE1, they know what they're doing. They'll play off of that slower pace to allow speed/casting/attack increases to feel even better. The endgame will be wild I have no doubt, yet still retain some level of attention on gameplay and not a drool on your keyboard level of spam Graphics aren't that important, it's just a cherry on top, it's mostly all the other things.
I hate to say it to the people who are already planning to primarily play POE1 over POE2, but the moment they split the games, I knew that POE2 would be GGG's priority. Which means that this delay that they are getting with the POE1 season to next year is just the start of POE2 getting prioritized. This is a good thing for me, because I am just so burnt out of the POE1 campaign, and I love the direction they are taking POE2. Honestly a new season only adds so much to a game when the base game essentially stays the same (Settlers was the sole exception in years), and I am looking forward to playing POE2 where everything is not already figured out and then distilled down to the most efficient methods possible.
idk if thats the way i see it, just this is the early access launch its obviously going to take prio, the game lives or dies based on that, but once thats done leapfrogging leagues should be fine?.
There is no evidence at all that they would prioritize POE2 over POE1. It's the launch of POE2 right now. Obviously, right now, they would focus on that. Doesn't mean anything when both are launched and stable.
I think the primary issue is the setting of expectations around the 2 games tbh... maybe they would have been better off just stating they are planning to quasi-sunset POE1 instead of implying that the development wouldn't be affected, which it already has. Edited to mention I'm saying this as someone who is more invested into POE1, as I think with follow up games a lot of people are projecting what they want it to be when we just don't know(technically better doesn't necessarily mean it has the right recipe, which POE1 still has for me). Also I'm feeling extra doomy since my two favorite games have gotten hit by dev issues(POE and Football Manager).
I played PoE1 in the closed beta. I got invited in November 2011. I loved it back then, but admittedly, the content was lacking. I probably spent 40 hours in the game in that era, total. Maybe made two characters. I was 22. I grew up playing Diablo 2, and this game really felt like a spiritual successor, even in its bare-bones state. I remember when they added act 3 in 2013, what a massive expansion that felt like. 50% more content! I got another 40 hours or so of fun until I put it down again. This was before we had any tools. I remember making forum posts to engage in trade. Can you believe that? Thousands of hours later, I'm so damn proud of this company. They are world-class. I would happily wait another year for POE2 if I needed to. Let them cook!
How could it possibly be the "dark age" of poe when they're about to drop an entirely new game? "But muh poe 1 league 😭😭" People reacting like that are not only ridiculous, but so entitled it's funny
No the problem is that it'll be 6 month leagues for both games due to alternative development. This might end up losing player retention over time and destroy both. The player retention rate decay indicates that 3 month cycles are around the sweet spot for content novelty. So what they need is for the same players to be playing both games. But looking at the direction this is going and the stark difference between the games and the division this is generating makes me think that the players of one game might not necessarily be interested in the other and that's terrible for GGG. The 6 month content draughts for these players playing a single game might end up causing them to drop it entirely. So the challenge is to create leagues with plenty of content that can last 6 months or somehow maintain 3 month leagues for both games which is way harder. They'll probably be forced to expand their studio and recruit more employees to maintain them.
I've been playing since... Domination League? Warbands? I don't remember which came first off the top of my head. Back then, I couldn't even get past Cruel difficulty back when the campaign was 3 acts with 3 difficulties and Piety was the final boss (Cruel Daresso can eat a cactus, by the way). It was extremely slow and pretty boring after a while, but watching Kripparian was super cozy. Ascendancies were a game changer and helped to hone build ideas into archetypes. Legacy league holds many positive memories for me. Delve league helped me bring my friends into the game. Betrayal was one of the best leagues we had ever played. Seeing PoE go through the catastrophe that was pi-league, ESPECIALLY when Archnemesis went core and implemented the way it was... it was depressing, extremely disappointing, and I was beginning to lose faith in GGG. Right now, I truly believe Settlers is the best league, period. Everything about the league makes it extremely welcoming to new players, so players like me and my friends were able to utilize it and get further than we've ever gone before. Previously, I had never defeated any endgame boss - I had gotten close many times, defeating some Shaper and Elder guardians, etc., but that was it. In Settlers, my friends and I were able to use the Settlers league to print currency so freely, allowing us to experiment with ease and take risks, and we ended up defeating every non-Uber pinnacle boss for the first time. I even brewed my own Quin69 build as my league starter and was able to tackle nearly all the content. This brought my faith back in GGG, and I hope they continue this streak in PoE1. My friends and I are also extremely excited for PoE2. We don't care about the delays or any of the other drama, we can just play other games to keep us busy. All we want is a good, enjoyable game. We're hopeful that Jonathan and his team can deliver a banger.
It is pretty obvious that for GGG, having PoE2 launch EA in a decent state is much more important than starting a new league. PoE2 NEEDS to hit it BIG and while the game looks good and press coverage is nice, it isn't a home run by any means. GGG can't falter with PoE2, it has to live up to expectations or GGG might have bigger issues. We also already know that smaller leagues, like Crucible can be made by very few teammembers. So there is no "worry" that PoE1 will not get support or no new content. Just let the team cook. Have them release PoE2 EA and in Feb we can hopefully enjoy a PoE1 expansion instead of just a league.
Ehhh this is a bit nonsense tbh. First off, PoE's leagues have ALWAYS been a bit random. This isn't the first time there has been 5+ months between leagues. Also let us be clear, Path of Exile 2 is the future. No developer puts that amount of time into significantly overhauling their engine and doing all of that animation and rigging work to not use it. Path of Exile 1 will die, it is just a matter of when. Likely within the next 5 years. I do think they should have done a bit more for the Settlers refresh though.
If "certain" content creators wouldn't signal boost the supposed "problems" for clicks there would be a lot less "drama" or "controversy". But there must be content for content sake otherwise those dollaridoos stop.
poe2 is objectively a better game. i played the beta months ago. but i dont play ARPGs like i would play something like dark souls. i play ARPGs to relax, blast maps, watch tv. POE2 needing to actively block, dodge roll, play wow piano on my keyboard to spam 6 different skills is not something i want to do. i played diablo 2 thousands of hours. i played POE tens of thousands of hours. i played dark souls for 40. POE2 will probably get a lot more players. but i will always like poe 1 better
At this point I don't even really care about poe 1 anymore. I played almost every league since 3.0 but I feel in the last couple years GGG squeezed every last drop out of poe 1 by giving the players absurd amounts of loot and power creep. You kinda get numb to it when Divines drop like chaos orbs used to drop every league... I just hope that GGG learned from poe 1 and won't do the same mistakes in poe 2
My stance consists of bits and pieces from this video. I'm upset/disappointed with the PoE 2 beta delay, but I get it. I've been playing ARPGs since around January 1997. That means I was there for Error 37, PoE 1 open beta, Last Epoch 1.0, Diablo 4 1.0 and 2.0, etc. I would've been there for Wolcen, too, if I'd decided to play it on launch. I'd much rather wait another month or so for a "new" game (even if it's just a beta) as long as that month makes the difference between an acceptable launch and a disastrous one. The first time GGG announced a substantial delay to PoE 2's beta, my response was, "Let them cook." I'm also not feeling like PoE 1 is in its final days. I know PoE 2 is all hands on deck, and will be until it launches its 1.0 patch (which won't be on December 6). Unlike Blizzard, GGG still has my trust, and that's basically what they said would be the case. While the situation is disappointing, at least Settlers is arguably the best league they've ever done, and is my personal favourite (I've 40/40'd not only it, but Betrayal, Synthesis, Delirium, Ritual, Archnemesis, and TotA), so it's not like the 6 month league and reboot event are during the Lake of Kalandra patch or something. I've also been there for GGG's Christmas leagues. They usually sucked, and badly. Balance/tuning issues as well as bugs took forever to fix because they were running a skeleton crew. Why? Christmas and summer holidays are at the same time in NZ, so they're barely able to do anything beyond fixing crashes until personnel return to work. A league would have to come out several weeks before their holidays, or in February to avoid this (January launches are financial suicide). At least the content we're "stuck" with in the interim is solid, and it gives us an opportunity to play different modes such as Ruthless. I've been enjoying that quite a lot. As for anticipation of the game, beyond just wanting to play the content for myself, I never truly hyped myself to extreme positivity or negativity. I wasn't part of that major hype lull the community saw after the 2nd ExileCon showed more of the game, and it was received pretty poorly. I feel like it's akin to trying to write a full movie review based on a collection of 15-60 second trailers you see on TV or as previews for another film at the theatre.
As a factorio player (I notice so many ppl like both factorio and poe ^^ they should make some crossover event tbh) POE 2 is like the idea of a main bus when you are still newbie or during early game transition to mid/late game base. The thing is if you are not using blueprints from the beginning, you put some soul into your first spaghetti base (POE1) but if you want to progress further you need more resources, more factories, better base layout so you often HAVE TO abandon your first crash-landed base in favor of the main bus (POE2). People get angry because GGG fucked up. Instead of promising POE1 longevity they should just comfortable delay POE2, while talking care of POE1 (new league every 3 months) and when they are 101% ready that they can transition just announce it like 1 month in advance and say goodbye to POE1. Just man up. The only reason they say POE1 will be competitive and alive after POE2 launch is to avoid possible backlash D4 got after people realize game is looking good, campaign story is nice but endgame do not exist. GGG will then say oh just go play POE1 if you CANT WAIT for proper endgame.
I understand why some people are upset about poe season being delayed, but I believe in GGG, this is just temporary until poe2 is out the door, we will have some sort of normal scheduling once this crunch time is over.
Even when I'm somewhat out of the loop, watching your videos is always a treat simply because of the passion and grounded positivity you bring to the table. Thanks for the content as always! I personally think GGG has accomplished enough with PoE to deserve trust in their vision from the community.
Honestly..it makes sense. Great for me, sucks for poe1 only people (who aren't even sure of themselves since they haven't played poe2) but as a company and in general it makes sense to move on to poe2. poe1 isnt going anywhere, and its already had 10 years of the limelight. I still think they are going to stagger leagues like they said they would. Everyone just needs to chill out lol
Great video, really really nice. I was honestly surprised GGG promised to continue supporting PoE1 when they announced PoE2, and was even more surprised people did not anticipate a delay on the next PoE1 league. I was sure they would simply skip 1 league, which the PoE2 early access launch would fill. Perhaps that was their plan all along, but GGG might not have wanted to kill the hype for PoE2 with the news of a PoE1 delay.
The PoE1 shills need to make their own private server, GGG certainly will not comply about that in the slightest. It's time to change, whether you all like it or not, because we'll be sure to have what we had in PoE1 moved as developing ideas in 2, more story, seasons like in 1, more items being added, skills and more. I for one, welcome the change. The people over-shilling 1 are looking like WoW classic andies.
They will definetely not shut down PoE 1 after PoE 2 release as many thinks. It's like dividing your playerbase wich u get cash from and then removing that playerbase? PoE 1 will be fine, they probably even gonna recruit new people to the team and make both games completely different from each other as Jonathan once said (the difference part). PoE should remain fast af gameplay for people that like flashy flash bing bang gameplay and PoE 2 will be for people that prefer more strategic approach or for some people both games will be fine. They said that leagues of PoE 1 and PoE 2 will not be at the same time so u can jump in, finish league challenges and league in other game starts/already starts so u can hop on and play there too! Have more faith people in GGG even tho they fucked up few times they still didnt let us down like Bli$$ard or (at least for me) LE devs...
GGG never should have said that POE2 wouldn't impact POE1. I can understand the really angry people going off. Remember, GGG said this before about Ruthless not impacting the normal league. What happened? We find out that new Ascendancies were put on hold because they were fiddling around with Ruthless, and worse, there were almost no changes to the META, yet Ruthless had pages of Ruthless changes. Also, why does anyone think that POE2 will get a million players at the release of Early Access? That seems a bit over ambitious. I'd say 400k would be really good.
Where exactly did they say it wouldn't impact? All i remember is they saying they would keep developing leagues for both games, not necesseraly that one wouldn't impact the other. There are plenty of QoL changes that are coming from PoE 2 to PoE 1, that is an impact of one game in the other, just as much as the delays...
I just want to point out, GGG never said that PoE 2 wouldn't impact PoE 1. They've commented on this two times: during Exilecon 2023 and in an interview with Subtructum. At Exilecon, when asked how they would manage both games, Johnathon said that they are incentivized to have a staggered release schedule for both games, and with the way things are they can have two separate teams working on both games. In the Subtractum interview, Chris went a bit further and said that towards the end of PoE 2 development, they want to free up resources to PoE 1, and have it so that leagues are staggered, with one league coming out around 2 months after the other.
@@AdamColladoJ Exilecon 2 (Exact time 2:06:20) they said they will be seperate games. Idk about you but when I think seperate games I dont expect my gtaV launch to impact my elden ring launch, or even my gta6 launch tbh.
@@soso7o7 When GTA 6 is given an official launch date, I will guarantee you it will effect the release date of every single game that's being developed, because nobody is going to want to release a game around the same time as GTA 6. Similarly, with GGG developing two games, not only do they have to share resources (which implicitly effects the game), but they won't want the games to be released around the same time as each other, as it would cause splintering of their player base and will cause them to lose money, since their monetization is based around supporter packs. Makes way more sense to spread them out so you can maximize your profits. Also, again, saying the games will be separate is NOT the same as saying PoE 2 won't effect the development of PoE 1.
If you still enjoy PoE1, I'm glad you can still enjoy it. I haven't enjoyed it since probably Harvest league, and it wasn't because the league was good, it was because my friends played it still. I haven't been able to play a league without having friends to play with since probably before 3.0. It just isn't the game we started playing back in beta, or the game we kept playing through 1.0 or later. The way I see it, PoE1 is already Final Fantasy 11, and Final Fantasy 14 hasn't even launched yet. Just don't put Chris Wilson in charge of it.
This is a great take on the recent events and a good recap of how it was before. Played PoE since 3.7, it where my name came from ^^ I admit I have kind of been in group 2, really worried that their attention on PoE 2 is a lot more harmful to PoE 1 then it actually is. PoE2 will be great no doubt and I have some Hope that 3.26 will be a big core expansion, just cause it lands in the timeslot where core expansions happened before. I like both Neversink and your take and I believe that once PoE2 is out and we get stable releases, that it will be a golden age for both.
I think the garden metaphor was really fitting and I mostly agree with your take. Most of what I would've said was already mentioned in the two comments you replied to, so instead I'll go off-topic and thank you for reminding me how much I love the Age of Mythology soundtrack. I haven't picked up the remastered version and haven't heard it in... at least a decade? But I instantly recognized it. Talk about nostalgia. Also I'm definitely in the hyped out the wazoo camp, I got tired of PoE1's hyper-optimization, 1 Button playstyle and (IMO) over the top speed years ago, and PoE2 is basically what I fantasized about when imagining my ideal game. Haven't felt like this since Elden Ring, in fact I think I'm reaching levels of hype I've never experienced before. 29 Days.
Crucible was my first league playing PoE and it’s one mechanic I wish would come back. Even if it was rare like Wildwoods showing up in maps today, I was a noob and missed out on crafting some dope Crucible items!!
idk how to feel about the whole thing. I probably wont be playing sok pt.2 bc I put over 700hrs into SoK as like a send off for the "last" league thinking poe2 was around the corner. I did everything this league I have been wanting to do in poe1 for a while, played 14 builds to 95+, did the challenges, made a dozen mirrors sent dozens of 50mil ships etc etc. SoK 2.0 doesn't seem that appealing so I just will play other games until poe2. I also was thinking the whole time the next league wouldn't be dropping until next year, but I didn't expect poe2 to get delayed again.
Honestly, they're just games. I really don't understand why people get so upset about delays when they are usually for the benefit of players. Go do something else with your obligatory time off around Christmas, it's not the end of the world. In all honestly GGG could have said they weren't going to support POE once POE2 released and you would have to transition across; what would people do then? In many ways it makes little financial sense to support 2 F2P games and the architecture they require but they have committed to doing so and for that the player base should be thankful and grateful. Also makes no sense to honour existing POE purchases into POE2 but, yet again, GGG break the mould and promise to do so; how many other developers, including multi-billion $ ones, would even remotely consider doing this? You can probably count them on one hand. I'm not saying people don't have the right to feel frustration, of course they do but outrage at a game delay baffles me!
Yeah, very reasonable take. I personally have literally 0 negative feelings towards the PoE2 beta delays, or even it affecting PoE1 at this point in time. I've seen enough to be certain that PoE2 will be great and to trust them to know if they need to cook it for a bit longer. I'm also reasonably happy about the current PoE1 state, and have enjoyed my reworked Gladiator to the ridiculous amounts - and frankly, I can use a small break from it, given how much I've played the last league. At the same time, I also recognize the delays suck from the devs' point of view (they must be exhausted as hell), and it messes up content creators' schedules (and we need this amazing community to stay on deck and be able to afford the living doing their invaluable part) - so the only 'issues' I have are related to those two.
I'm surprised that people don't see it Infront of their eyes - poe1 league delay is there so to not tear apart people who want to play both games. Imagine for a second how bad it would be if GGG launched poe2 EA and poe1 3.26 back to back. This would be the worst possible decision. They couldn't have launched 3.26 early so not to rush things and it would only mean a longer delay of poe2 EA, and they couldn't have launched them simultaneously. When else were they supposed to do other than delay poe1 league? Not only that but they also have said in the past that poe1 and poe2 leagues' releases will be staggered so NOT TO DIVIDE PLAYERS' ATTENTION. Dark age, bah
I am the kind of player who goes hard on every second or third league. I never did 36+ challenges in two consecutive leagues. So the league I would probably skip anyway just does not exist.
Imo poe 2 will change poe 1, because they can drop the pretense of slow progression, and make it into a full erikiken/jousis wet dream, prioritizing fun over grind and catering to PoB players But until poe 1 doesn't bring in money with leaguestarts, which is unlikely for the next 5-10 years imo, it will probably keep receiving updates similar to what we've had recently, and my guess would be that then it would keep Standard for years to come. I think the 4 month "slips" aren't just due to poe 2, though key people (there's ony one neon/rhys/Alexander) needing to work on poe 2 might be the thing that tipped the scales with how to the wire they are. People have been calling for 4 month catchup leagues since basically forever every time a league was released with a day of testing and is broken for a couple weeks, and simple qol wasn't added for years. Though imo they should streamline what to do with delays, *cough* bringbackraceseasonsbutwithasyncprogress *cough* I think at some point unless poe 1 dies off, they will bite the bullet and migrate poe 1 to the same engine version as poe 2, that will be an investment but this should allow them to have assets for both games at the same time, and easily port skills and content. In the end we might see a sunsetting plan that basically mostly merges the 2 games back (still with separate mechanics, story, and balance, but with the core of the 2 games being the same.)
I play PoE since 2018 and love the game. What i dont understand. The money GGG makes is only from PoE1. Nobody was mad when GGG delayed PoE2 again to dec6. So my question: Why is it better to delay PoE1 then PoE2? We wait for PoE2 since 2019, what is 6 more month? Who cares? Shareholders? I dont think gamers really care. If you delay a PoE league by 3 months it has a huge impact. I heard they dont like Dec launch or close to winter holiday ok. So why do they do it with PoE2? For me it looks like some 2024 deadline with PoE2 they must meet.
Realistically, they want to split the games and have them be their own thing. For PoE 2, they only get one chance for a first impression. The amount of new blood in PoE has kinda stagnated, only improving because of the people who didn't really like Diablo 4. PoE 2 currently has tons of eyes on it from non ARPG lovers, ARPG lovers who don't like the competition and people who are burnt out on PoE 1. They need to get this right. Even though this is a early access release, because they delayed it once already now peoples perspectives have shifted to now thinking this is basically like a full release. The delay shifted the expectation from track A to track B. I believe Jonathon when he says that they aren't delaying it because of the game, it's the network stuff. They've been focused on end game for months so I don't believe it will be delayed again, so long as the network stuff can be fixed in time.
For me with all the ARPG choices out now, and the fact that they postponed the early release POE 2. I don't know why people wouldn't want to an early release game nowadays, since it basically is an open beta. But rehashing the 3.25 league is not really exciting for me. So I will just bounce to playing the other games, and maybe jumping into POE once in a while until POE 2. While I have played for 10 years I am not upset with the delay. My attention span just isn't there nowadays. lol.
I can't imagine myself playing any other ARPG after PoE2 gives me WASD movement. It is insane to me that nobody tried it in 24 years since diablo 2(well there were hellgate london and arguably borderlands). ARPG's were popular not because of archaic click to move system, it's a rudiment from diablo 1 that was supposed to be turn based and then was changed to real time. Same thing for MOBAS by the way. It only had click to move system because original DOTA was a mod for a strategy game.
GGG remain a relatively transparent developer, better than 99 percent. They should have been more realistic about the inevitable impact of 2 on 1 - they lack the resources, but I can forgive them because I tend to believe that GGG have good intentions and really want to deliver great games.
Sometimes I find your takes a little too hypeman-ey but this video was remarkably grounded. Acknowledging the disappointment but also looking to the future. Sound advice right now. Great vid Tri!
I'm torn. On the one hand PoE2 looks amazing and the idea of having two fundamentally different versions of PoE running parallel is very appealing. I'm super excited for December for reasons I think are obvious. On the other hand, I've know from the start that one of those two games will become the priority and the other will fade out in the long run - with PoE2 being the priority. This isn't good since the split between the games is primarily to justify changes that are fundamentally against what PoE1 offers and ultimately one of these two very different games will be lost. I also don't think PoE2 will be able to exceed PoE1 for a long time. No matter how awesome it's new gameplay and visuals are it simply won't have the content to compete with the first game and I don't expect it to reach the point where it's truly ready to go toe to toe with the original for a long time. There's still a big part of me that wishes they had just kept the scope of "PoE2" more reasonable and delivered it years ago rather than trying to re-invent their masterpiece.
I've played since 2012. I'm excited for poe 2. Fresh start, not so many league mechanics in the base game. It's really weird to say but poe 1 feels like there is too much to do. I can see how if you were a new player it would be very overwhelming.
Great video as always, Tri! Ps. People keep saying that GGG said PoE 2 will never affect PoE 1. Anyone got a clip of that? Or is this a broken telephone type simulacrum of the truth?
Didn't they say it during the announcement of PoE2 back in 2019? I thought they said it during the original announcement to assure players that PoE1 leagues would continue to be unaffected by it's development. And people arguing that case are usually the ones saying PoE2 will ruin PoE1, right? But wouldn't that prove them entirely wrong? PoE1 leagues have continued since the original announcement and continued development of PoE2. For 5 years. 🤷♂ So, either GGG did say it, and it proves them wrong and they've shown us their dedication to continue updating PoE1, or GGG didn't say it, and they've shown us all along that they're still dedicated to PoE1. Not a hill I'd want to die on.
There is something that is always true with video game companies that have more than one game. When they are working on a new title and get close to their launch date they will usually need help from their other teams to get the game ready for release in that crunch time. GGG is no different here, so I am not gonna be upset about the delay of the new expansion 3.26. Did GGG said that not long after PoE 2 is released that they release it with the first league of PoE 2. If yes the I would dare say that PoE 1 will be impacted by the release of PoE 2 depending on when it releases. If I made a living creating content for video games. I would be certain to make sure that I wouldn't be only doing content for one game only. I would have other games to fall back on just in case I couldn't make new content for one of the games.
Gotta say that you sir are wrong in your first 2 minutes of video. The Dark Age of PoE truely was back, pre-2015. After that, pretty sure we've had the 3 month leagues for a long time, and people were having loads of fun. Infact, just before Act 4 released, that was when the game was really starting to pick up the pace. It was actually more simple and less complicated to play. I actually got a headhunter pre Fall of Oriath, but I have never once been as rich as I was back then.
Nobody would care about the delay, if the event was at least an event. Ppl are incredibly bored at this point and a bunch of scours and regals wont fix it. If ppl wanted to play settlers anymore, they could just use the league instead of starting over and the loot would be better anyway, because they have fully decked atlas, chars and the whole setup.
Another thing At least the game isnt dead, unlike its competitor "cough d3" People need to stop crying about less league when GGG is doing their absolute best to run 2 games at the same time
Don't get stuck in the past, but conserve things which work. And POE1 works for a lot of people. I think they're being dramatic though and they'll enjoy POE2 just as much if not more than POE1. Some people are just tethered to nostalgia, and while that's cute and important, for the devs with limited resources.. it's impractical. Maybe one day when POE1 shuts down, they'll let private server operators keep the game open.
Idk maybe I am growing old, but I would like 2 leagues/year for each game, which means we could oscilate between the 2 games and get high quality leagues for each(6month dev cicle)... after 3months into league they can do some "event" leagues for the players who want to play just 1 game. I dont understand how people could keep up with 3 league/year for each game without getting burned out quickly. example schedule: POE1 league #1 - 1.1. POE2 league #1 - 1.4. POE1 league #1 events start 1.4. + POE1 league #2 - 1.7. POE2 league #1 events start 1.7.+ POE2 league #2 - 1.10. POE1 league #2 events start 1.10.+
That will be when GGG go through and give PoE 1 the love they've given to PoE 2, and refresh all those old textures and revamp Act 2-4. Act 2 and 7 are the worst acts, because the terrain is bland, and Act 2 was originally designed so poorly, that half the act is actually just gone, and it took ages to get out of act 2 on my first time. I never wanted to go back again.
@@bmpm844 I theorize they will finish or work on the Atlas story in PoE 2 with Zana causing problems. Instead of meeting her and she comes to hideout, you see her trying to close off your ability to map, or she now has minions and wealth from her knowledge running around the the different multiverses or whatever. I always figured she would become a big bad, or accidentally bring a big bad.
@@matthewwhitt5249 theres spoilers already about what happens with alva and its not pretty lmao. besides that, theres zero sense to make the poe1 story in poe2, the timelines are not the same. are u introducing the exarch and eater fight in poe2 with dodge roll? no u are not. just finish it on poe1
@@bmpm844 (meant to say Zana) Nah, you don't get it. There is not need to bring in the PoE 1 bosses, because in this timeline, They've already been defeated and warded off. She already hates the exiles anyways.
The problem is of what they tell us and what not. Someone may not notice but they statment i may be wrong. But they have league ready to lunch but they delay start because delay of POE2 And thier rule to not crunch and make leagues to close to holidays to no need for patching if it something goes bad from home.. If they want Delay POE 2 - on something that should be done long before... They should start POE 1 League as soon as possible, maybe on the day they have to start poe 2 ea.
I do see your point, but I think you are wrong in your conclusion after all. It is the longest drought of new content for PoE1 ever and if you aren't interested in PoE2 then you most likely will suffer under that drought till 1.0 if not beyond
It 100% sucks for the short-term (short-term being the next 6 months-yr). However, for the long term viability of GGG to grow as a gaming studio, I DO think this is the right move if they'd like to support PoE1 + PoE2 for the next 10+ years.
@@TalkativeTri I think it will suck until 1.0 is out. And currently I can't see GGG pushing that out prior to Q4 2025, if everything goes well. I also think GGG is currently not capable to keep up with the demands of the community AND their own aspirations to the highest quiality. And just expanding the team isn't a viable solution either imo. Yes to an extend it can be done, but eventually the studio becomes to big for their own good. They are just maintaining F2P games after all and the more people are involved in GGG the more money the products need to generate. And if GGG doesn't change their ways or actually gets a slam dunk with PoE2 and generate enough to hire and maintain these hires for at least 3-5 years, it will long term lead to "selling out" for a better market share and eventually the fortnightification of another beloved franchise
@@omegasybers1110 They have already sold out though. Their entire company is owned by Tencent, the last % of the shares still owned by the founders were sold fairly recently too.

Honestly. i played POE1 for a logn time.. and I do nto see why new leagues even are interesting. Only sometimes we have real changes. Just an extra mechanic to grind is not even interesting at all. I gave up on POE1 when noticed it is always the same... it starts moderately interesting but after first fight with kitava it becomes keep button 1 pressed until everythign is dead.. in different scenarios for this expansion (with a few exception leagues that brougth interestign stuff)
The "garden" metaphor doesn’t fit what’s happening now. GGG did try to grow new plants in the existing PoE1 "garden," but it led to controversial changes-like 3.15, Archnemesis mods, and Kalandra League-that left lasting marks. When they realized these PoE2-inspired changes were clashing with what many players actually wanted, they decided to make PoE2 a separate game instead of just an expansion. This was their way of acknowledging that they couldn’t reconcile both visions within one game, especially after the backlash and resentment from the player base. Splitting the games made sense but raised a bigger question: What happens to all the PoE2-driven changes made to PoE1? Even if PoE2 turns out to be amazing, some players will still feel bitter about the path GGG took. If PoE2-inspired changes didn’t already split the community, this announcement certainly did. And honestly, if your old "garden" is wilting while you build a new one, maybe it’s not the time to start a new one. They could have brought in more resources to maintain PoE1 without taking away from PoE2. Sure, it’s easier said than done, but if GGG is set on handling both games, it’s only fair they support both with separate teams. Instead, they poured everything into hyping PoE2, leading to major management and resource gaps. Now we’re here - looking at a potential 6-month league for 3.25. This strongly suggests that PoE1 is being given a back seat and that there may not be a dedicated PoE1 team with a plan for 3.26; they’re simply hoping PoE2 Early Access will carry them through. This is frustrating for people who just want to keep playing PoE1. Now, the community feels fractured into camps: some players feel PoE1 has been twisted and neglected due to PoE2, leading to more resentment. Others are apathetic-they used to care but have come to terms with PoE2 eventually replacing PoE1. While GGG says PoE1 won’t be sunset, it’s hard not to feel like PoE2 is their new favorite child, and especially with the actions they are taking right now. When players still feel angry, it shows they care; once they stop, GGG may have lost them for good, and loyalty like that is hard to rebuild. PoE1 may fill a niche no other game does, but GGG shouldn’t take this advantage for granted. Let’s be real-new players will come and go, but longtime players are PoE’s backbone. And then we have the people that are eagerly waiting for PoE2 and some even think that PoE1 should fade out. Final Thoughts In the end, GGG might be underestimating their core PoE1 players-the ones who’ve stuck around and helped the game thrive. If they want PoE2 to succeed without alienating their dedicated base, they need to actively support both games with planning, teams, and resources, not just promises. Actions speak louder than words. PoE1 doesn’t have to be a casualty of PoE2’s success. But if GGG doesn’t commit to PoE1, they may find that loyalty, once lost, doesn’t come back easily. And yes, vote with your wallets. I haven’t spent a single cent on any of the bad leagues so far, but, as I mentioned before, it feels like I’m fighting a losing battle. Does it even matter if I vote with my wallet? No, and it shows. So I’ll just dip my toes back in occasionally and accept the current outcome and any possible outcomes yet to play out. tl;dr Disgruntled, apathetic PoE1 player ranting. Thanks for coming to my ted talk. And I'll be playing Once Human, Warframe and Factorio until GGG does something. Maybe I still care a bit if I'm able to rant this much, I mostly bottle up and move along. Huh.

It does, YT deleted my own link, but on PoEDB, it has the best by far, 15% of player peak on the last day of the league, easily double the next highest. I shoulda put the graph in the vid.
@TalkativeTri Even excluding end of league events, there are a bunch of leagues over 20%. Even some at or over 30%. Nice video btw. Fun piece of content.
Well said, dude!
Pure farming to make the daily revenue and content for the waay to many streamers out there + players are like society, faster and dumber everyday
The endgame will be wild I have no doubt, yet still retain some level of attention on gameplay and not a drool on your keyboard level of spam
Graphics aren't that important, it's just a cherry on top, it's mostly all the other things.
Honestly a new season only adds so much to a game when the base game essentially stays the same (Settlers was the sole exception in years), and I am looking forward to playing POE2 where everything is not already figured out and then distilled down to the most efficient methods possible.
couldnt agree more brother...
Totally sensible opinion. Cannot wait for you to see the vid!
idk if thats the way i see it, just this is the early access launch its obviously going to take prio, the game lives or dies based on that, but once thats done leapfrogging leagues should be fine?.
They ain't dropping full game and it's Closed Paid Beta of Poe 2 you may even not get it to play.
@@wexoriann 30e, feels worth it
No the problem is that it'll be 6 month leagues for both games due to alternative development.
This is the golden age of PoE and I plan on playing both
Man that Age of Mythology music is so fking iconic i recognize it anywhere
I love Age of Mythology musics!!!!
The best case study is Everquest 1and Everquest 2. Both release content every year... for 20 years.
this comment made me wanna try everquest
My favorite types are the ones setting the bar so high that PoE2 better cure cancer when it comes out
At this point I don't even really care about poe 1 anymore.
The first time GGG announced a substantial delay to PoE 2's beta, my response was, "Let them cook."
I'm also not feeling like PoE 1 is in its final days.
There is still people who believe they will get to play poe 2 in december 24 and sadly, I count myself among them
We cope together.
Isn't it December 6th? Wdym by the 24th?
@@zerenityzerene4410I mean the current year haha
The PoE1 shills need to make their own private server, GGG certainly will not comply about that in the slightest.
It's time to change, whether you all like it or not, because we'll be sure to have what we had in PoE1 moved as developing ideas in 2, more story, seasons like in 1, more items being added, skills and more.
I for one, welcome the change.
The people over-shilling 1 are looking like WoW classic andies.

Off topic but imagine if GGG did an Elder Ring -like game. That would be the most epic Scheiße ever! The boss fights would be so insanely good!
@@soso7o7 "Exilecon 2 (Exact time 2:06:20) they said they will be seperate games.", alright, but when did they say one wouldn't impact the other?
If GGG changed endgame pacing or style. Endgame players will freak out, and GGG will change it. End of discussion.
Played PoE since 3.7, it where my name came from ^^
I admit I have kind of been in group 2, really worried that their attention on PoE 2 is a lot more harmful to PoE 1 then it actually is.
Honestly, they could end content updates on PoE1 with Settlers and that would be perfect.
???
Path Of Exile progress over the years, from the garage to the hall of fame
I forgot how bad PoE looked when if first came out
Imo poe 2 will change poe 1, because they can drop the pretense of slow progression, and make it into a full erikiken/jousis wet dream, prioritizing fun over grind and catering to PoB players
But until poe 1 doesn't bring in money with leaguestarts, which is unlikely for the next 5-10 years imo, it will probably keep receiving updates similar to what we've had recently, and my guess would be that then it would keep Standard for years to come.
Though imo they should streamline what to do with delays, *cough* bringbackraceseasonsbutwithasyncprogress *cough*
I think at some point unless poe 1 dies off, they will bite the bullet and migrate poe 1 to the same engine version as poe 2, that will be an investment but this should allow them to have assets for both games at the same time, and easily port skills and content.
So, either GGG did say it, and it proves them wrong and they've shown us their dedication to continue updating PoE1, or GGG didn't say it, and they've shown us all along that they're still dedicated to PoE1.
I've played Poe 1 since the original beta I can care less for Poe 1 now just give me Poe 2 already!
Aint no way 2 games can be ran at the same damn time. 3G gotta Highlander this ish! POE Dads know what I'm talking about!

Out with the old in with the new. Progress and evolve. Don’t get stuck in the past.
@@PherPhuragreed
Idk maybe I am growing old, but I would like 2 leagues/year for each game, which means we could oscilate between the 2 games and get high quality leagues for each(6month dev cicle)... after 3months into league they can do some "event" leagues for the players who want to play just 1 game. I dont understand how people could keep up with 3 league/year for each game without getting burned out quickly.
example schedule:
POE1 league #1 - 1.1.
POE2 league #1 - 1.4.
POE1 league #1 events start 1.4. +
POE1 league #2 - 1.7.
POE2 league #1 events start 1.7.+
POE2 league #2 - 1.10.
POE1 league #2 events start 1.10.+
Sometimes I just wonder if there will ever be a 4.0 patch in poe1
That will be when GGG go through and give PoE 1 the love they've given to PoE 2, and refresh all those old textures and revamp Act 2-4. Act 2 and 7 are the worst acts, because the terrain is bland, and Act 2 was originally designed so poorly, that half the act is actually just gone, and it took ages to get out of act 2 on my first time. I never wanted to go back again.
one would think they want to at least finish the atlas story lmao
@@bmpm844 I theorize they will finish or work on the Atlas story in PoE 2 with Zana causing problems. Instead of meeting her and she comes to hideout, you see her trying to close off your ability to map, or she now has minions and wealth from her knowledge running around the the different multiverses or whatever. I always figured she would become a big bad, or accidentally bring a big bad.

@@bmpm844 (meant to say Zana) Nah, you don't get it. There is not need to bring in the PoE 1 bosses, because in this timeline, They've already been defeated and warded off. I mean to be fair PoE1 was a EA game for 8ish years....
Sometimes u just need to let fly and start with what are u working, POE1 it was a pleasure but is time to fly
The problem is of what they tell us and what not.
Someone may not notice but they statment i may be wrong.
But they have league ready to lunch but they delay start because delay of POE2
And thier rule to not crunch and make leagues to close to holidays to no need for patching if it something goes bad from home..
If they want Delay POE 2 - on something that should be done long before...
They should start POE 1 League as soon as possible, maybe on the day they have to start poe 2 ea.
I've been following and playing Path of Exile for a better part of 30 years. It's time to move on boys. It's time to play 2.
woah

Great vid, and It will all be fine, PoE & PoE2 will be great
Did you get new lights or camera? Your setup looks great!
No, ty! Just changed the colored bulbs.
Final Thoughts
In the end, GGG might be underestimating their core PoE1 players-the ones who’ve stuck around and helped the game thrive.
So I’ll just dip my toes back in occasionally and accept the current outcome and any possible outcomes yet to play out.
tl;dr
Disgruntled, apathetic PoE1 player ranting. Thanks for coming to my ted talk. And I'll be playing Once Human, Warframe and Factorio until GGG does something.
