Thank you for this. It brought back many fond memories. I went to St. Angela’s School. Born in Seria and left to live in California, USA on November of 1968. My mom was the school secretary at St. Angela’s and my dad worked for the Shell Oil Company. Both my parents were originally from Rangoon, Burma. I wish I could go back for a visit. I know so much has changed. Life was simple back then. You didn’t have to lock your doors or windows. As I have gotten older, I have come to appreciate life in Seria. The last Shell Oil Company house we lived in was right by the beach. I heard from someone who visited Seria that the house is no longer there, and I think many of the company houses are not there any longer. Those were nice houses, especially the ones in Kuala Beliat. Kuay to Aw (incorrect spelling) and Koo Lo Mee were delicious. We often had both of those to eat. I have wonderful memories of growing up in Seria. It was sad to leave in 1968.
Great video! I was born in Seria in 1955. Went to St Angela's school. There was no TV when my 5 siblings and parents lived there. My dad worked for Shell Oil Co. We left for US in 1968. No one here has heard of Seria. Brunei. Few have heard of Borneo. The first Survivor show was held in Borneo. I would love to go back and see how it had changed and all the progress that has happened thru the years!
Thank you for this. Brings back amazing childhood memories of swimming in the pools. And the bike path that I used to ride to school on. Our last home was in section E1 and I had to cross the main road to get to the path.

Thank you so much for this great video, Stephen. I really miss my place of birth of 21 years. Left in 1990 for Canada but my heart n soul is in Brunei. Still have many friends n relatives there. Hope to visit them soon.
Brought back many memories.I went to school in seria and worked in panaga hospital for 3 years after my training in UK.Thank you for the beautiful video.
Hi Stephen..Thank you for the footage I believe I actually found our house on Lorong 14 at at the 35:31 mark...We left for Australia in 1968...Brought back lots of memories...Thanks Again.
Thank you and well done Steve for your 36 min Drone coverage of Panaga. I can only hope you will come up with a similar coverage of Seria and BSB. My Dad was a Trade School Instructor with BSP during the 50s/60s and my family grew up in Seria. I am an ex pupil of St Michaels School Seria 1964-1966. FEN/UK.
1st time in Brunei : '80 next '82 & 83 (summer holidays F1). Worked for Petrodrill (offshore & guesthouse in KB): 1989, Shell posting 2005 - 2009 (F6) Did see the house. Great footage, many memories.
Thank you for putting this together. Sure brought back many childhood memories. Visited many of the BSP places including the hospital unfortunately 😅. Never appreciated the presence of crocodiles in the backyard until seeing your video!
Thank you Stephen for capturing beautiful Seria oil town where many of the childhood memories are still vividly on our mind. We love the old home town as warm as the summer breeze where everyday is a holiday.
Amazing! Love the aerial drone shots. Life back then was super laid back but it was great! No complaints until we had to leave in 1998 because we were an expat family. If we had a choice, we would definitely not leave. After, returning to our own country, 'Pinas, you can compare the stark differences in lifestyle and economic livelihood. In my opinion, life in Brunei, is likened to a secret escape from reality. It was quite magical, oblivious to the cares of the outside world. Time stood still and if you could freeze time and space and just live in it forever!!!
Just out of curiosity, if seria/ brunei was so good, why did you all leave for greener pastures in other countries? I was born in Kuala belait and grew up in seria and left for the UK in 1978 because life was not good there .Of course we will always remember precious childhood memories there.I personally have been back there several times. There is nothing there ( so boring) only our childhood memories and memory lane .
A nostalgic glimpse Indeed! Thanks for sharing this we miss that beautiful place we stayed there almost 6yrs my husband is working in Anduke as Quality HSc Manager and I miss playing golf panaga golf club and of course my friends there few of them still there few left. Back in 1970 Mr Brunei picked a fight with a 21 foot long python and nearly died Security had to kill the snake to save his idiot life , the sports ground near F20 is still there where this event happend. great memories to this day The SRC was a fantastic club for married women, they were all shacked up with useless army types. The pilots had a field day there for years. Great times.
