    I just shot my first wedding with the 6K PRO and it was amazing! Granted I had it fully rigged up with a shoulder rig, follow focus, V-mount batteries and an external screen. The whole rig was pretty heavy so I brought along an EZRIG and pretty much stayed on that for 12 hours with the exception of a few tripod shots. I really dislike gimbals and monopods so for me shooting this way gave a more natural documentary style and feel to the footage. The ND Filters are a game changer. It is really hard for me to go back to Sony and Canon cameras that don't have that feature. As for AutoFocus it looks terrible when your camera is hunting for the subject. Manual Focus all day.

    Because of the general size and shape of the BMPCCs, hybrid shooters tend to expect that Blackmagic wants to compete with stills cameras, except the company has a strong bias towards “production” and live-switched video environments, which means they tend to design with a different hybrid concept in mind. If you need to navigate a crowded dance floor either handheld or on a small gimbal, other cameras will offer a more compact form factor, no doubt about it. However, if you plan to livestream the wedding ceremony (or even live-switch record a service and upload later) the Pocket Cinema Cameras run circles around stills bodies. Put an ATEM Mini Pro (especially the new Extreme ISO) into the mix, and all of a sudden you have integrated remote camera control and color management. With the ISO you can have an instant Resolve timeline to adjust your cuts and do rapid color correction and have a refined version of the stream/recording online in no time. Go to the next level and attach SSD drives to those cameras, and you can instantly substitute 6k BRAW for the compressed HD which came off the switcher, and end up with a near instant 4k archive of the ceremony. And now, with the bidirectional micro converters they have come out with recently, you can incorporate SDI length cable runs into what is otherwise a less expensive HDMI workflow, and run all of it on batteries if needed. Oh and let’s not forget that the latest ATEM Mini Pro firmware incorporates cellphone tethering, which means your chances of pulling off a stream in a venue with sketchy internet, go way up. Those switchers are also very data efficient, you don’t need conference center grade Ethernet to get a basic stream running. And let’s face it, the world is not going back to the old normal. Even with vaccines, a fair number of people will remain reluctant to travel, and brides will still want to reach those friends and relatives on the special day. BMPCCs make that workflow so much easier and quicker.

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. I own 4 BMPCCs and 3 ATEMs! Love em (and use Em at weddings). That being said, for many wedding filmmakers the lack of AF and IBIS and the fact that they don’t care about live streaming are a deal breaker. I just live BRAW but the A7S3 is no slouch. - Jay

      @waveland 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WeddingFilmSchool I understand that the needs vary, but the vast majority of comparisons focus on what’s missing compared to stills cameras, without taking the time to unpack the many aspects of the BMPCCs which stills cameras can’t touch. In that way reviewers miss opportunities to expand operator’s options.

      @@waveland I’d say if you look at our channel you would see that is NOT how we treat the BMD cameras. We talk endlessly about how incredible it is on our show. We will also def be reviewing the new Pro. I do believe that for most wedding filmmakers it simply doesn’t work within their workflow though. Many wedding filmmakers shoot exclusively on a gimbal, for instance. Many really rely on AF or have a handheld style that requires IBIS. Many just don’t own EF glass and don’t want to switch. That fact is this is not a new camera in most respects (although it’s a nice upgrade) so I’d you weren’t sold on the workflow with the BMPCC6K you won’t be sold on a camera just because it has a flip screen. Me personally... They had me at BRAW. - Jay

  • @alantuttphotography
    @alantuttphotography 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The lack of IBIS or AF can usually be worked around, but not having both takes it out of the running for most run-and-gun scenarios. Otherwise, looks like a great option.

    • @WeddingFilmSchool
      @WeddingFilmSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      We think it’s still incredible! Just not as much of a one-size-fits-all crowd pleaser as the A7S3. That being said I think it’s the most beautiful image under 8k. It’s gorgeous! - Jay

      @alantutt a classic statement from someone that doesn't actually know how to operate a camera properly. And I just looked at your work...confirmation that I am right! BM cameras are perfect for any situation if you know how to use them.

    • @alantuttphotography
      @alantuttphotography 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevendukedesigns First, I'll agree that BM cameras have a lot of great features and work wonderfully in the situations for which they are designed, which is mostly narrative film work. Secondly, I may not be at the top of the food chain, but I'm far from an amateur. Whatever you saw didn't include all the videos I've produced for private clients who wouldn't want me to post their projects on my channel. On that note, your channel has no public videos at all, so where's the proof that you know how to operate a camera? Anyway, my original point was that when shooting a live event, and working to create something better than the old-school "set it on a tripod with everything in focus", modern standards are such that the final footage needs to be both relatively smooth and have the primary subject in focus with a soft-focus background. Personally, I find shoulder rigs too bulky for too little improvement in stabilization. That leaves glidecams and gimbles. Handholding with IBIS allows for focus control, but the minute you try to focus the camera while on a glidecam or gimble, you've also eliminated most of the stabilization effect. This is why I said that the lack of IBIS or AF can be worked around, but having neither doesn't really work in these types of situations, unless you want to hire someone to run a follow-focus control remotely. But weddings aren't a Hollywood production, and most of my clients want the photography/videography to be more-or-less invisible.

    Dual IS and a more or less reliable AF is a must for a wedding A-Cam imho. Especially as a solo shooter.
    I cant see myself using anything but the GH5 (low budget) or the A7S3 (medium budget)

      i waited for the EOS R5 (having all the canon eco-system already from the photographer world) to start doing film work, because i wanted ibis and great autofocus. what can i tell you, after working for some month with it, i tend to disable image stabilization (can lead to unnatural movements and feel wobbly) for 95% of the time, and mostly use manual focus now because of the greater control.
      but there are situations where i would miss both features on the 6k pro. nevertheless i am very tempted to get one as an A cam, and put the canon mainly on gimbal and/or telephoto lenses as a B cam.

      You talking about post production software? That's a completely different category imo. That would be like saying gimbal stabilization is way better than ibis......I mean yah it is but it gives a completely different look, so not really a great comparison in my opinion. Unless I'm misunderstanding? Software can definitely be a help in stabilizing but it doesn't replace ibis, rather works together with it

    • @legendp2011

      @@WeddingFilmSchool sony catalyst requires you to disable the camera ibis and lens stabilisation to work. maybe they can make a version that deosn't require that. just my thinking is.........you're shooting braw anyway, likely editing in davinci, so it makes sense to add a hardware module. the results from gyro are far better......and DO require a hardware sensor.
      If we can have both great (ibis and gyro). but I would prefer a gyro sensor (also they could add one to the existing cameras as a little add on box like stead xp+).
      in order what I want
      1) raw video (we have)
      2) dual gain output sensor (like c70).
      3) autofocus (phase detect or lidar module)
      4) gyro sensor
