I owned one of these gems back in '66. Bought it at a music store off Wall St. in NYC brand new for less than $100 including case. I taught myself how to play on this beast. Sold it to a college buddy, purchased a Goya classical guitar and then a Guild D35. Wish I still had the 1260!!

Have a 1971 H1260 and it is louder than my not-so-old Martin. These guitars need a case and a humidifier. An EXCELLENT sounding guitar. Some have warped themselves out of playability and when the top warps - the pick-guard ejects. If you see one of these you ought to play one. A very different type of guitar that is very well adapted for old 12-Bar Blues and Folk. Made in the U.S.A..

+Megastring My pick guard fell off too, although I never suspected due to warping but it makes sense.
This is the only guitar I've ever played and it's really hard to buy #2 because I don't know how they would compare with this one. I'm not good enough to tell.
I will say though that the distance you have to press the upper frets is painfully impossible for me.

Former Searchers member Mike Pender also played an H1260, but it’s not known if he played the guitar on any Searchers recordings.

Best kept secret in vintage guitar circles. The back is a solid single piece of Honduran mahogany. Martins were 2 piece. Martins also didn't have an adjustable truss rod back in the 60's. A mid 60's Martin D18 will set you back 2 grand easy. One of these might sell for $500. Bridge and fingerboard is Brazilian rosewood. Top is red spruce. hide glue join and shellac finish. Neck is one-piece solid Honduran mahogany as well. New guitars can't have these components regardless of the price. Honduran is never cut that wide any more. Brazilian is illegal to import.

+Joe Shmoe I received what I suspect was this model as a gift decades ago, but how do you confirm the model number? I can't find anything on it to tell.
I'm a pretty bad player but I sometimes enjoy it for a few weeks a year. I'd like to buy maybe a smaller, lighter sounding guitar as my second one.
I don't want to overspend my abilities though. I was thinking of a Jasmine JO-36 Orchestra. Truly low end but again, I'm a bad player.
      Any thoughts?
      Thanks

If it has a pin bridge it is probably a cheap Asia's copy. Inside there should be a stamp saying H1260

This one bought new, for $60.00, in 1968, I was in the US Navy at the time. Still plays great!
