I Found a FLYING DRAGON in My Giant Wetlands Vivarium

- I can't believe I found a flying dragon (Draco sp.) living in my Giant Tropical Wetlands Vivarium! As crazy at it sounds, I suspect it snuck into the tank via the driftwood. This incredible reptile was a dream lizard. It also eats ants and was perfect for my canopy vivarium. But in trying to catch it, it eventually showed me something that made me change my mind regarding my future plans for it. Meanwhile, below the waters, a 'Green War' was taking place, for which I had to ensure the right team won. New aquatic creatures were sent into battle! Hope you enjoy this Season 4, Episode 5 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

Heeeeey dude I just wanted to say thank you for your vids you really help my ptsd stay chilled out instead of firing off all the time so thank you for that ❤ I have to catch up on all the other vids I stopped watching due to a breakdown but I’ll get there 😅 hope you have a beautiful and calm week
Hello!
It breaks my heart to see just how much the tank was leaking, I believe it's beyond repair and has to be replaced. Hopefully you can save as many creatures from the tank as possible. This tank is my absolute favorite, it is so stunning. I hope you find an expert team of aquarium builders who can help you make a replacement for the Bermuda Rectangle. At least we should be happy that the tank failed now, and not when it was full of life already. The glass had no soft padding to make up for the weight of the water in there, so if not now, it would have burst at some point in time.
Yeah he needs to find a new team of builders every tank he’s had water in has leaked that is not normal at all just sub par work
This was predicted by many viewers when the build video was released, the way the tank was constructed really didn't make a lot of sense
Yh
These builders are screwing him over build quality also usually looks poor. I just been holding my tongue out of respect for AC. I love his creations he needs a contractor on his level.
That’s just terrible. He was ripped off!
AntsCanada, if you ever build another massive vivarium, you should consider a desert-themed design with an oasis at the center. It would be fascinating to see how different ant species adapt to the arid conditions while utilizing the oasis for survival. This setup could also support a variety of desert creatures, creating a balanced and self-sustaining habitat. Watching the interactions between ants and other wildlife in such a unique environment would make for incredible content.
This is something I keep mentioning to my roommate (we watch the videos together) I think it'd be really cool to see! I don't know how hard it'd be for him to put together but I hope he considers it at least
There is one ant species that lives in africa.Call the silver ant and it lives at the in the Sahara Desert. It can always stay there on the surface for about a minute before it dies. But I don't think it desirable work due to that would require a lot of power and since he's typically stays local, I don't know if the philippines has desert
yes would love to see scorpions and desert spiders and bearded dragons in there
The problem is that Antscanada lives in a rainforest environment, not a desert... and he's got a very firm ethical principle that he will not keep ants that aren't native to his area, for fear of adding to the invasive species problem if any should ever escape. Even though desert ants would probably not survive in a rainforest if they did escape, you can't entirely tell what will adapt to the new setting and what won't... and the Philippines do not need more invasive species to deal with.
We gotta get this guys to the top of the comments
As a tank builder myself tanks that size are extremely tricky even with the best skill. From the videos I can't get a good view of what could have happen but there are a couple of common problems.
1. Is there a cross support going along the tank? If you look at larger aquariums you can buy in a store like a 55gal (208 Liters) and up you will notice that there is cross piece of plastic or glass in the center. This helps keep the aquarium structurally steady to be sealed. This is very important for very long tanks like you have.
2. Is to make sure all the corners are supported. When you fill a tank with water all that pressure goes to the corner of the tanks. You can leave the bottom and edges free floating but you've got to have those corners fully supported. Some hobbyist like SerpaDesign uses a self leveling mat for this reason. Usually you can uses those floor stress mats made of EVA foam that you can buy at a hardware store but I'm not sure being how big the tank is I'm not sure if that would be enough.
Another suggestion is you can go super old school and try sealing the aquarium with specific concrete like putty and a metal frame along the edges. Unfortunately I do not have the book on me with what type of concrete but it was from an aquarium manual from the Victorian period. I'll have it tomorrow and I'll update when I get it.
I really hope it goes well. I love Flying Dragons and I had a couple myself awhile back. Mine which where draco volans would sleep upside down like a bats. I've consider getting more but I want to make a special setup for them.
I personally prefer ottos over algea eater. They are peaceful and schooling.
I also think acrylic is better for big tanks than glass. More expensive, but you dont as much of a risk accidentally cracking it. Plus two leaks is just too much for anything long term. I try to salvage and start over (easier said than done.) Set up a bunch of temporary tanks for the plants and creatures. New tank. Plus id even install an overflow catch on the floor like the ones waterheaters have, that way future leaks can be caught and redirected thus not ruining your house.
Ottos are amazing. Really fun little fish, and super helpful too.
@@nicked_fenyx ottos are much better. The Chinese algae eaters get large and become aggressive.
The Chinese Algae Eaters will eat the slime coat of of any other fish you add. You should replace them with more Flying Foxes. Love you ❤
Yeah, I also heard they're not that great algae eaters.
They ate the fins off a couple of my long finned fish😮
That's not good, yikes.
I agree with this comment!
Yea this needs to get bumped up lol
13:10 "...but my team of tank builders had built many tanks and ponds in the past..."
I wonder what kind and size of tanks, considering the workmanship.
I've watched quite a few "Tanked" episodes so when I saw you using glass instead of acrylic, and not using something like egg-crate light diffuser like I've seen Tanner (of SerpaDesign) use to distribute the weight of islands, I did grow concerned about the the stability of the set-up but I figured you knew and researched the best construction for what you had in mind. please consider replacing at least some of the glass with acrylic, and make sure that the islands' weight is more evenly distributed across the bottom. Hopefully this is just a leak in the seal and not cracked glass on the bottom. and i hope that everything survives. I think it would also be worth it to try and get in touch with Tanner for any advice he might have, since i believe you're already acquainted with him.
In this case, he hired people to build the tank, expecting them to be the experts. so I can't really blame him. You expect the ones you hire, to know something better than you do.
Tanked AND AntsCanada is the cross over i've wanted for a loooooooooooooooong time now. How cool would that be?!? They are the best at what they do
I always set my glass tanks on a sheet of dense Styrofoam to distribute the weight.
@@Helveteshit Yeah guys wearing flip flops while transporting big glas plates and installing them are definetly experts. They came in regular clothes and flip flops like they wanted to join a barbecue party or soemthing.
Acrylic tanks are more of a US style, glass tanks aren't an issue normally, just tricky to seal once. You'd also need alot thicker materials if going acrylic.
I would talk to the guys from the show Tanked. They regularly build large, complex aquariums more difficult even than yours. A freshwater vivarium is different for sure, but with the leaks you have had, it is clear that you need an aquarium team help you here.
They mostly do acrylic though.
Tanked ended several years ago because one of the main guys was caught cheating with the other guy's sister I believe
Which one thou 😂😂@@Brandinisnores
Would like to see the return of longer episodes. Feel like were getting a lot of short ones lately.
Provably hard to do considering how much work goes into rebuilding a tank. Even the first leak was a big set back. The only thing that takes longer than scaping, cycling, and stocking a tank, is having to redo it all over again.
I'm mostly surprised he hasn't hired an editor to handle some of the load. unless he has, but it feels like he's scrambling to get things done.
I agree. We need more... MORE!!!!!!
@@BouncingTribbleshe has. But filiming these weekly so we can be aling for the journey would be pushing the editors and him to end til upload.
Him always getting our imput on anything in the videos will always cause this rushed feeling
He's been traveling quite a bit on his other channel so I think that's why
Throughout the video, all I wanted to say was that you should remove those Chinese algae eaters. But by the end, I thought-never mind. Looks like everything is coming out anyway. Sorry about the leak; it really does seem beyond repair.
As for Chinese algae eaters, I made the mistake of getting them as a rookie fish keeper. They’re quite aggressive and will chase peaceful fish to suck on their protective slime coat, which stresses them out and can eventually kill them. I had to rehome mine.
People often recommend them, but bristlenose plecos are amazing at keeping algae off the glass. I have several tanks with bristlenose plecos and a couple without-only the ones without need manual algae cleaning. A more popular alternative to Chinese algae eaters is the Siamese algae eater, but I still think bristlenose plecos are better. Plus, they come in so many varieties-red, lemon, calico, long-finned, short-finned..
Draco's life expectancy now should be longer than in the wild.
Let's hope so!
@@AntsCanadathose tank people ripping you off brother

Next month's update: connected the bridge, eaten by a croc.
I hope you have a water leak detector (the kind you put under a dishwasher) that will alert you to leaks right away, rather than waiting until the next morning when you walk in the room.
For the snails name, S.W.A.T, snail water algae/attack team
If they even survived the leak. There is almost no water in the tank at the end

@ is it gonna leak forever?
I hope you have a water leak detector (the kind you put under a dishwasher) to raise an alarm about leaks immediately, instead of only the next morning when you walk into the room.
for something this size, this is an excellent idea. can't imagine waking up to 100 gallons + of water in my living room.
you would think so, especially after the sprinkler system failed in Pantdora and flooded it.
Oh no!!! One of my worst nightmares!! 😫 I’ve experienced this 2 times in my aquarium keeping. Nothing worse than coming home to see your tank very low on water. I know you and your team will get this under control but oh man, it’s such a let down. Good luck Mikey. We’ll be watching! ❤
Hope the crisis can be over soon. Really hope that you're ok, mike
i miss the long videos.
ill still watch of course. love the content. just wish it wouldnt end so soon
same... , thought this was really short compared to past ones... (sigh)
It’s like a tv show , we need long videos
100% agree, since this third vivarium series started the videos are like half length, bums me out.
I just don't think enough is happening to make it a 30-40 min video
Now your going have to introduce an fish that eats the snails. Maybe a puffer fish.
This channel is so dramatic and I love it it make the small world of ants and other small things feel like a Action movie
I'm just imagining Mr.Ants sitting there with a cigar, watching the snails destroy the algae.

Please update us on Orcadia and Pantdora!😊
What about the ANTS. You know, the reason this channel was started.
Antscanada after you recover from the disaster, you should consider adding hillstream loaches (Balitoridae) to your algae cleanup crew. Some of the species look like miniature rays and skates. They are a small fish with a lot of personality, also they are native to your location.

They have dragons in wales?? Or are you just being patriotic now 🤔
Your dragons are probably escaped pets of the druids.
Youre telling me had to kick a little Dragon out yesterday it snuck in and nearly set fire to my sofa before i could shoo it out x 🏴
@@PatcyprittyHave you ever met a Welsh woman?
There's Dragons in Wales.
I really wish these episodes were much longer ! ^^
Frankly, it wasn't a very good build design for that amount of water, aquariums have different requirements. I expected this might happen, but really hoped that I was wrong.
Good learning experience
@@jordanvance1657 More accurately, an expensive learning experience
Honestly as soon as I saw the “professional” caulking being done on that glass in the first video I knew leaks were going to be an issue for a long time, man’s hand was as steady as an alcoholic going through withdrawals, seems poorly done, I’m sure they’ve built plenty of tanks but I doubt many of that caliber at all.. seems like poor work from a bunch of random guys in street clothes, kindof a wonky design in general but I’m 100% wishing you the best, aquascaping/fishtanks are honestly so difficult
Waited this long for a 14 min video 😞 I neeed moorrreeee!
I warned you about this, that's why I told you, I hope you have a proper drainage system in place, as that tank had failure written all over it.
And it was all going so swimmingly. Well, it wouldn't be AC if it didn't end on a cliffhanger. Best of luck fixing it, Mikey. It's disheartening to think that so much hard work has been undone, but if anyone can solve this conundrum, it's you, your team, and the AC family.
It's not a real leak. That leak footage is the same from 2 weeks ago.
@NatureWar1 Dude, I just wasted all my time searching for that clip in the video that was 2 weeks ago, and I didn't find it. It's not a clip from 2 weeks ago.
Tbh its not worth fixing , trying to fix it will most likely lead to having to fix it again
It would be best for him to scrap it and get a acrylic tank
Some thoughts: 1. Safest is to use a bracer/cross beam to stabilize a tank of that size and some form of leveling mat under it since it's rimless. 2. Chinese algae eaters are excellent at eating algae when young, but as they mature they mostly stop eating algae and become carnivorous and highly aggressive.
I can just imagine draco just swooping down on the ants like a real dragon attacking a city. Would be cool to see a shot of draco doing that in a future episode!
Fr
8:30 a snail on it back trying to right it self grabs another snail passing bye and in the high speed its just spinning the another snail around 🤣
I cant imagine the despair for that leak the next mornin! I hope most of your aquatic life survived!
Yea he probably called it an apocalypse because everything survived. That makes sense.
Don't know if others are saying this but would really love for these videos to be longer, anywhere 40-60 mins would be perfect imo, proper episodes. Love the content and I appreciate that will be a lot of additional work for you, just want more of it!
I'd like longer videos too but that's A LOT of work on his end to get done in a week when you consider the vivarium care, filming, editing, scripting and plotlines.
@lucyhaikyuu yeah totally appreciate the extra work, but this is a channel with millions of subs, that gets millions of views, and releases 1 video a week. I think 40 mins is achievable and a fair goal to set
@@doggoronnie3387 He could afford a team to help him, definitely. If that were the case, I think 40 minutes is achievable (and better than shorter videos)
I did not wait a week for a 14min video
Hey any Canada if the snail situation gets out of control you can try assassin snails, they aren’t technically snails but they eat them and can keep the population under control, while adding biodiversity into the tank.
I would have liked to see another 5 or 10 minutes with some updates on Pantdora and Orchadia. After a weeks wait 15 minutes feels like not enough. Maybe hire in a camera assistant to just come in a couple days a week and film around all the terrariums to free you up to focus on scripting and building?
That's what I was thinking about. 15 minutes isn't enough 😢
He probably doesn’t have trouble getting footage. The real challenge is stringing the footage together into a narrative, writing a script, and editing.
I'm glad the name will be changed, because I literally saw not a single comment asking for it to be called 'bermuda rectangle' lol. Hydromeda/Cascadia are so much better and were in the popular comments.
Definitely did see comments asking for the Bermuda Triangle just fyi but it surprised me that he chose it too

there is a lot of responsibilities for having these things, and plus, there is not much to show yet. i garantee you that when all the animals that he planned to have in this vivarium is added into the tank, he will post longer videos.

The whole point was to have different animals in there . Draco could go to the first tank
I was worried about leaking. Man that sucks! It was satisfying watching the algae eaters though. Love all the great shots you get. Its awesome watching mother nature in action. I get so excited for every new video. Draco seems to like his new home. Can't wait to see him glide. Look forward to next week.
I love the way this vivarium looks, but in my opinion the other 2 look more like a piece of nature than this one. The grey wall behind the Bermuda Triangle, and the windows clearly visible, gives it a sens of being an installation in a home, which it is at the end of the day... but the way you made the rainforest and canopy vivariums really gives the sens of an immersive natural environment.
I think some tannins in the water and the plants growing out, hiding the back, would go a long way
Yeah the plants need to grow in more. That would def make it more naturalistic
I agree with you! Feel the same 💯
Beautiful! I am just starting my first small fish tank at 71 years old... It is almost cycled, I already have a few snails, then I will get some small fish and later shrimp. I often watch my pond snails in my outdoor pond they are so entertaining. I love your videos, please keep them coming!

Replying to another comment reminded me of going to the Belle Isle Aquarium as a kid. One of the oldest in North America. If you have a public aquarium near you, support them. After being closed for years, Belle Isle Aquarium is reopened. If you ever go to Detroit, make sure to go there.
Imagine not listening to expert aquarium keepers whom express concern and continue the shabby build.
"Until one morning, without warning, something terrible happened."
Dude, a whole bunch of experts warned you three weeks ago before you'd put anything living in there!
Why he didn't stop then and make sure to reinforce the tank I can't fathom, given how big and expensive it is, you'd think he'd want to make sure it was going to hold together.
LMAO You think all the people commenting AFTER the fact could do anything about it ? By the time he posted the video of the build, the tank was already done. So all the comments about the build don't do any good because the tank was already done. It's like looking at the leaning tower of pisa and trying to tell the builders why their tower is going to lean and how they should have built it. Doesn't do a lick of good after the fact.
exactly. this guy only reads and replies to comments that bootlicks him. any other advises or tips he ignores because he thinks he knows better.
I’m assuming he recorded all these videos a long time ago and is now posting them all😭
I assume there is a gap between recording and uploading. He was likely already setting up the decor and everything before he saw those comments, and decided to put his faith in the builders instead of tearing it all apart and starting over. He really needs new builders, though.
I LOVE algae, means more algae eating creatures. My kids love their snails, who are masters of algae removal, just pick them wisely. You got some GREAT looking snails! Sorry to see the tank leak, I was one of the people questioning the build, just hoping for the best. Good learning experience though, and, looks like there should be enough water to keep most animals alive for transfer.
Am i dreaming or this video is 14 minutes long?
14 min and ended in a cliffhanger for the ages! I could watch hours of this content.

Ouch, No job is too be big for Duct tape. Sorry -a leaking aquarium is always scary. I hope the repairs work.
He is really good at leaving this stuff on cliffhanger. Makes me wait to watch next week. Hopefully, he can fix this.
Thank God he didn't treat the wood before he put it in. Some people boil or bleach objects like drift wood before they use them.
Because some people don’t want tannings or any creepy hitchhikers but that would defeat the point of this.
@elijahsamuel8177 also for viruses or illnesses. Most store bought animals can't handle due to a weakened immune system from being captive. They're not even supposed to eat wild bugs.
As you add animals/decor to the tank, the weight increases as well as movement on top of hundreds of gallons of water. It seems like the tank gave way at the weakest point. Adding weight distribution like egg crate light fixturea would've helped a lot. I hope you get the issue resolved quickly! I love this series!
I had a Blue Mystery snail I named Cthullu. (I know cliche 😅) He lasted a good half year longer then their normal life span of a year and was so much fun to watch. He'd climb up to the top of his tank and let go to float to the bottom, just to climb back up and do it again. I'm pretty certain he did it simply to have fun. Seeing your snails reminded me of him. 🥰💖
Would've loved a 10-15mins update at the start on the other 2 terrariums

Man, where am I going to get my ant content from now?!
😂😂
LMAO
I found a few other channels to watch ant contents. Not as good, but at least they’re ant related. I miss Mickey's ant content.
A _Draco_ , an actual _Draco_ ! From where I come from, these are almost mythical creatures, the kind that showed up in a pickle jar on Linnaeus' desk back in the 18th century, prompting him to give it the name it bears to this day. Having one just popping up is ... words fail me...
I love this channel, but call me skeptical. I just have a very hard time believing that during the entire terra scape process that the flying lizard wasn't disturbed or threatened enough to make a leap to safety. It just really feels like a deliberate placement.
You're skeptical
If it was inside the wood, there’s a chance it may have just been hiding inside, since lizards do like to hide in the dark as they feel it’s safe, and it would be risky to just pop out. However, it is rather strange, I wouldn’t doubt it being for dramatic effect
I completely get you, and that is normal.
But wetas (gigantic cricket like insects), which I had as pet for a long time, always hide inside bamboo pieces and never comes out unless I push hard or it becomes night.
And after that, I have foudnout almost every insects, frogs, geckos, lizards, and even fish like small tunnel. So this draco probabbly like that, too.
And when they are in those holes, they never comes out. And that’s my opinion. It was too comfortable to come out.
Totally agree
Out of all the channels I watch for terrariums etc Antscanada is the only one to not wash/clean any plant/wood that's introduced so eventually he's heading for an ecological disaster.
We definitely keep Draco in the Bermuda Rectangle. You saw the way he displayed his dulap in that shot near the end. He was like "I am king here. These are my lands. I shall rule benevolently".
Man, that sucks. But was it really a leak? The overflow at the bottom is suggesting may be the clog in the filtration system causing the pump to drain the main tank. I hope it's not a leak, the filter clog theory is much easier to fix, happened to me before.
In the end he shows the water in the tank being really low, I think it was water from the tank itself that was leaking. Either way I am afraid that by the way it was built, it was gonna break at some point in time anyway because of the massive amount of weight put onto the glass, with the glass having no padding to distribute the weight. I hope he can save all the creatures in there
@@sleepymonsteraddict Had to make another look, yeah, it was indeed a leak. Bummer. I was looking at the bottom part of the video I missed it. Yeah, might need more support and padding for safety.
Oh, Draco is just so cute! Such a sweet little face💕And those snail's, oh seeing them grazing like a little heard of underwater cows gave me such a smile.
I have to admit I was lost between the end of season 3 and the beginning of 4, really loved seeing this new, glorious, space being built and the start of it population moving in! But that leak!! Oh that is so heart-breaking! I do hope not TO many residence were lost!
I think Algae Assassins is an appropriate name for the Legendary Snail Soldiers.
This Channel is starting to remind me of Batman from childhood. It ends with something dramatic and a Stay Tuned on this Ant Channel at the next Ant Time LOL
Keep draco in there!❤🔥
You should get bristlenose plecos, Pictus catfish, and corydora catfish. They are all very awesome mini catfish and will be very good at cleaning near the bottom
You should name the snails “The cleanup crew”
Oh I LOVE nerite snails so much! They are so so cute! And have such amazing little personalities 😍❤️
i love the video can u add fireflies to pandora pls
fireflies does requiring a lot space and i'm concerned it one of frog will eat fireflire and fireflies are poisonous to frogs and not sure what they requiring for their mating ground
You need something in the middle. I know you were going for it to be open but I think you need a large branch that looks like a dead tree in the water. I feel like the water creatures don’t have enough places to hide.
lets hope Draco doesn't get eaten by ol gator
"Draco will eventually have the opportunity to cross over to the old world vivarium, if he wanted to."
Godzilla (Caiman): you ain't gonna see him flying than in the wetlands.
Early in the video you said you literally died, you literally didn't.
You don't know that
If you decide to move Draco to either of the Old Worlds for his own safety while the Bermuda Rectangle is being sorted, you may need to place him in Orchadia and seal off the connection or look at relocating Godzilla to reduce the chances of Draco being eaten by him
Draco needs a partner
