Yes it really does take team work and I hate when people judge just because they see someone sitting down for just a second you don’t know what that person did prior to them sitting . If you see me sitting for just a few best believe I busted my azz of working so I deserve a second and when you have a good team behind you they understand trust me.💖💓
Start by filling out the application you just never know fill out everywhere then try to take a class and get certified go to job fairs apply for different positions in the hospital that’s close to spd then move your way up towards spd
Hello! SPT here. I will say the pros of sterile processing would be that you get to learn literally every instrument there is in the facility. We often get new trays so there’s always something to learn. Being able to identify and ensure the cleanliness and organization of surgical trays is very rewarding as we are the heart of the hospital. There is no surgery without SPD! Cons would probably be that after a while your back hurts a lot. But that can be determined on the equipment at the facility you are hired at. Some spd departments have equipment that is adjustable to one’s height. Nonetheless the job has to be done correctly. Take every day as a new chance to learn and remember that mistakes will happen. Don’t beat yourself up. And EVERYONE is teachable. Don’t be afraid to share ideas as well as correct those around you when needed. I hope that helped you.

There are online courses and 2 main kinds of certification: CBSPD and HSPA (Formerly IAHCSMM) Most hospitals don't require experience and do on the job training. But they'll require you to get certified after working for 1 year. Companies like Steris offer additional services but they are not hospitals. They have lots of job availability in the East Coast and the South
