I have a 997 GT3 RS, and what a special car it is. I've owned dozens of fast cars, euros, JDM, muscle cars, etc...there is absolutely nothing like it. The one car that I will keep til my last day!
The Fun Factor is a 10. The reasons are the usual stuff, like the notchy transmission, the Mezger engine, and how involving it is. But add in the durability and that you can drive the sh*t out of one without it breaking and minimal value depreciation for higher miles compared to other cars.
absolutely. These cars are all about maximum driver input and enjoyment vs a car designed to shave milliseconds off a lap time at the sacrifice of driver experience. .
I have one of these with the GT3 RS 4.0 lighter flywheel and clutch, and did an upgrade to the toe links, motor mounds and did a Guards LSD upgrade (along with having the coolant lines pinned). Can't get enough of this car!
Nice ride! I have a 997.1 TT and the fun factor is off the scale. It's also very practical for road trips. I found that my mileage on highways is ~29-30 MPG at speed limit+... Around town, I'm probably at 12-15 MPG. But I get plenty of smiles per gallon, the benefits of which are difficult to quantify.
Good review. I have this model but its a Cobalt Blue RoW spec - no sunroof, no bumperettes, no TPMS, etc. I find the clutch perfect in weight and feel, not heavy at all - as compared to say the power assisted clutch in the 997TT which is way too light. My fuel consumption around the city is about 17-19mpg, and on the curvy roads closer to 25, and I have seen 30 in the right conditions, so it's not a fuel hog. I came from the air cooled world, and the steering feel, precise shifting and that awesome engine which howls at 8400 is amazing. I sold my 993TT when the market peaked, bought the 997.1GT3, pocketed a wad of cash, and have zero regrets. :-). I have other friends up here who are also selling off their air cooled cars and moving into GT3, but not the other way lol.
I added a 97.1 gt3 clubsport to my fleet. Not because it’s the fastest but what an all round driving machine…. I have a tuned turbo S but this is different with the revs climbing and pin point handling. 🍾🍾
As time is already stating to show all 996 and 997 generation cars will be recognized as the last of the great analogue cars for all as mentioned in this vid .. GT3 997 of course !! and along with all 996 & 997 cars .... especially for daily driving and weekend cars ...they are ALL way more car than most public roads can handle or deserve and with some mods make great weekend autocross or enthusiast track cars .
Really good review, well done !! In my opinion 997 is close to peak GT products because of Engine, overall size, production numbers off, electronics and still remaining relatively inconspicuous visually. That said the rear aesthetics design of the 991 is the best looking visually.
Yellow??? All the colour combos that I have ever seen for a black 997 have been the 'Halloween' combo of Black and Orange. Orange or Yellow? (BUt in the closing shots....the seatbelt and then the outer colours did kinda look yellow.)
What a beautiful noise! Its amazing how much the models can change in size, handling, hp, etc and yet still stay instantly recognizable as a 911. Damon, would you say this GT3 has been your favorite one-mile-review?
@@PorscheClubofAmerica maybe YOU WILL ENJOY my video from VIR last summer!!! Merry Christmas from Pennsylvania!!😁😁😁🚘🚘🚘🏁🏁🏁🏁 th-cam.com/video/sn5ATwL0ilc/w-d-xo.html cheers!!!
Owned a 2007 GT3 for 3 years. Enjoyed it very much, but the rawness and track focused nature of the car made it a poor road car for anything but short blasts. Replaced it 6 years ago with a 981 Spyder which is beats it hands down in every way for road fun. The 997 GT3 wouldn’t see where the Spyder went on normal roads. I expect there may be some dissenters out there lol
@@space_114v2 Yes unfortunately slow. And I'm comparing it to my 996.2. One the track the GT3 is a little faster mainly due to the extended rpm range. 997 GT3 is the worst GT3 hands down. Sorry for my honest opinion.
No need to apologize, we welcome all the opinions on this channel, as long as you are Porsche fan🤣 Glad you enjoyed the video, we appreciate the support.
It's a North American thing and Porsche gave you one as a standard option on most models unless you "optioned out" the desirable sunroof delete "option" ....Go figure >>
@@space_114v2 it’s very strange! And you guys don’t get the factory buckets either (guess must be a safety legislation thing). Here in the UK 997 GT3 with sunroof are very rare.
Here in the US, the 997.2’s did not come with sunroof. I also prefer that the .2’s came with Centerlock rims that are 1.5 lbs lighter. US .2’s also did not come with Cosmoline on the engines for overseas shipment, so the underbody looks much better too. The .2 front bumper also came with screens where the .1 did not. Quite a few other improvements which led me to the .2, & the last 4 yrs of ownership have been BLISS. It’s a dead mans car for me. My kids will have to figure out what to do with it when I’m gone. Lol.
Stick with the impressions and leave off the ratings. We want to know what it's like and to see more video of the cars driving. The ratings aren't meaningful (and take too much time) because many, if not most, of the cars featured are second or third cars, not everyday drivers.
997.2 GT3 is much better. I’ve owned both. Better for track, mountains, road trips, and daily driving in and out of city. Besides better interior and cleaner bumper design - it’s just the right amount of power w/ 3.8 L vs 3.6 L, better front end geometry and available PSM for safety. Come to Atlanta and you can do a test on track or mountains or city.

Good point Kevin. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on it. We glad you enjoyed the video.
Not notchy at all... To me, it's precision. On another note, pity the US never gets the carbon bucket on the RS, it looks odd without it 😁

Once you start, there is no going back😂 Glad you enjoyed the video.
Did you also add a crank damper? ive read stories about how a damper becomes necessary with the flywheel or else harmonics go out of whack.
Guard LSD is a must in these cars
did you have any increase vibration in the interior w 4.0 kit? tks
Pinning my coolant lines also. Love it 997.1 GT3

also own one and look forward to road trips w the kids, who can actually sit and ride comfortably in this car.
You could not have said it better. The smiles definitely make it worth it🙌

best 997.1 GT3 Video on TH-cam and data is very accurate except I find fuel consumption on my GT3 997.1 decent. Thank you

I would make an argument that the 997.1 GT3RS is a perfect car.
🙌
Wonderful car. Love them. Most car enthusiasts do also which is why they are so desirable. Have a ‘11 GT3RS 3.8.

Too 🐌 slow ?? Perhaps a little when compared to newer cars ... but most cant drive in the first place except in a straight line ..

Why so many Americans spec’d car with sunroof? 😕
I can't understand why that was an option on a GT3?!

try a Carrera for a passenger car and grocery getter ... GT3 are road/track and pure Porsche ethos

wrong .. .2 more refined = less feel, less raw less pure 911 … oh and hideous steering wheel style
A mile 😂😂what a plum
