Thank you Randy and Julie for a wonderful tour of this very historic Fort. Your narration with all the facts and details was excellent ! ... God Bless you both ... Robin :-)
@@AmericasParks Yes sir, preacher Randy! I’ve been there several times, and I sure hope you guys got to enjoy some of the incredible food, but also the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park. That is literally the spot where the founding of the United States took place.…Come back as soon as you can. I can’t wait to go again.
We visited the Castillo San Marcos a number of years ago and it was the culmination of a childhood dream of mine, born from my fist sight of it on my ViewMaster. No, I don’t even expect you to remember those. I’m old…… Thanks for taking me back there. Nice fire…. Happy wife, happy life!
Wow great another wonderful visit to a park we did drive by but because of my bad knees we (my husband ) and I couldn’t go in. You and your wife do such a wonderful job showing us the most important points of interest. Thanks again ,keep on keeping on . Love it 😊 praying for your safe and trouble free trip 🙏💜
Thanks for another wonderful video. I love the state park ideas as well! The island camping looks really unique and off the beaten path. Had to look that one up after watching:)
LOVE St. Augustine! Went to that fort when I was about 9- just went back with my family about 5 years ago. So many great memories. Thank you for giving this fantastic location a bit of spotlight- best I’ve seen online. Love your work!
St Augustine is incredible! We are so over due to stop by again and explore it again. What a rush making it to the island hahahaha! 🏝 and campfires always make it special.
Excellent video! Very informative. Thank you! I visited St. Augustine during Christmas a few years ago. Stayed at The St. George Inn across from the fort. Perfect location for visiting the fort, historic downtown St. Augustine and enjoying the beautiful Christmas Nights of Lights. I visited that same ice cream shop each night too. 😋 It was at the fort I purchased my senior lifetime pass into all of our National Parks for $10.00! The nice park ranger in the ticket office told me about the deal, as the price was going to increase a good bit in a couple of months. I'll forever be grateful to him. Since then I've visited Yellowstone twice, Acadia, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Glacier and Grand Tetons National Parks. And I'm looking forward to more National Park adventures.
You did not buy a senior lifetime pass for $10.00. Since 2017 it's been $80.00 for those 62 and older. If you did, it was pre 2017, which is more than a few years ago.
@@alexnutcasio936 I did pay$10.00 for my senior pass. It was in December 2016. When purchasing my entrance to Castillo de San Marcos the ranger told me about the $10.00 senior pass and the cost would be going up in a couple months. It was too good to pass up. So that was a bit over 5 1/2 years ago now. I guess I should have said I purchased it "several" years ago instead of saying a "few" years ago.
We visited Jacksonville August 2021 with three goals: Zoo, Disney, and beach. After planning and executing all three a local family we were visiting mentioned an alligator farm in St. Augustine and something about a Fort. After the alligator farm we stopped here briefly and glad I did. Great to see a video on a park I visited. Was a brief but memorable visit. Thanks for sharing and keep em coming.
Another great video, Randy. It brings back great memories , too, from many years ago. Thus site was part of the 3rd grade Social Studies curriculum when I was a teacher…had to go visit personally! Our kids were quite young then, but they enjoyed it too.
First off, I didn't even know they had a fort in St Augustine, Florida! Also, what a cool looking one at that! I'm glad that your campground on the island was he able to ferry you out there after hours.
Beautiful city went there years ago sadly didn't have a chance to explore the fort! Thanks for the tour! There's a fort I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head in Pensacola Florida went on a deep sea fishing trip there one time and the captain took us to an old ship that was sunk right off the coast by cannons fired from the fort you could look down and see it perfectly intact it was really cool! That's where we caught our bait fish!
I finally got across to Matanzas on the 8th time. You can only miss the ferry or the ferry be out of commission so many times! I love living out west, but miss these historical ones back home. Thanks for the vid; your family and friends make our Sundays watching your channel.
Hello America's Park's😊😊😊, my son and I visited the fort in St. Augustine in May of last year and we loved the fort. The whole area is just beautiful. Fort Matanzas was closed which was a bummer because I wanted to get in there. I drove from RI to Miami, and down to Key West where we got absolutely hammered with really heavy downpours. Hahaha, at Biscayne National Park the mosquitos, Ohhh those biting mosquitos were something else! We're going back to Miami and Key West but this time we're going in late July and will visit the Dry Tortugas. Hopefully the weather is better this time. We're also going to bring lots of bug repellent this time, as we didn't last year. Awesome video my friend👍👍👍👍👍.
Very cool Randy. Great job showing us around and providing some very interesting narration on the history of Castillo de San Marcos. It’s has such a fascinating history and is equally fascinating in its construction. Hontoon Island SP was also really cool. I had to look that one up. Sadly, it looks like it was impacted by Hurricane Ian. As a family, we went to St. Augustine and saw the fort a few years ago. What and awesome area. Insider tip, don’t go Memorial Day weekend. I made it back down this way in March. My middle and I went camping near Timucuan Preserve and also visited Ft. Matanzas. We had an awesome time and also did some kayaking in the salt marsh/ocean estuary. Holy cow, that was a challenging paddle, probably the hardest to date. Fought the wind going out and fought the current coming in. Beautiful but exhausting. You could see the current being pulled out to the ocean.
Randy, very cool adventure! To find out - surprise, you can’t drive to campground, it’s on an island! Oh, my. I don’t remember an experience like that in my travels. Great tour of the fort, and I like hearing from you and Julie about the history. And BONUS a campfire - THANK YOU FOR SHARING, . . . Mike
We are visiting here next week! 10 nights in St Augustine. And I just found a neat historical fiction book to read to my kids that takes place at the Fort. It’s about two young girls in 1875 - one a Comanche and the other, an American and their friendship. It’s called Paintbrushes and Arrows by Finotti if anyone else wants to get it.
Ok was totally loving your facts, information and Julie then there was the tidal toilet. Perfection, because as a 30 year liveaboard boater 🤣 Story telling was the best Randy!
that fort is amazing/ not sure about the tidal toilets though hahaha... nice remote campsite and what a fun tour, lots of great history thanks for all the information... interesting to think about the 60 days supply, long for those times/ i bet modern forts are prepared for a lot longer... thanks for taking us with you and glad you could escape the winter for a bit.
Man, you lucked out with that timing! The history surrounding the fort is interesting. Crazy that it changed hands so much. Hahaha, you're fire building sounds like ours - the size depends on how many logs we have vs how much time in the park, lol. We rarely consider buying more, lol
That was a really fun to watch video Randy.funny, we had camping issues over the weekend as well. Got down into the low 30s, making sleep very difficult. Got to get to Florida someday! Amazing weather. Hope you have good weather when you head west. It's been beautiful.
Appreciate that, Robert! Low 30's... that's some really cold weather. Things have been crazy... looking forward to checking out your new video. Take care!
Randy and Julie, somehow I missed this video a year ago. I'm glad I finally stumbled across it. Sadly, I realize there's a lot to see in St. Augustine, which I never got to see, since I was always making a mad dash to somewhere south of this interesting city. 😐
St. Augustine may well be our favorite spot in Florida as it blends nature and history so well.
Good taste, Jonathan! Such a tremendous area!

A fire!?! That's an America's Parks rarity! Great history in this one. So many great historical sites in the NPS that I need to visit one day.
Yeah, good observation on the fire! :) So much cool history on the east coast!
