    Haha Being from the south east US, this sort of accent seems so exotic! Its amazing to me how diverse language and slang is. Im sure most people from the UK would have a hard time understanding me... especially after Ive had been drinking. 😂 Good show!

    Hello Kayley Jade. I absolutely love the Midlands accents and slangs. I am from Texas, US (which has its own accent, for sure). When I tell people that I am from Texas, they begin mimicking a Georgia, US accent. It doesn’t really bother me, but I do understand what your other posters are saying. Also love the “Common as muck” comment. Glad to know there are more of us out there. Thank you, very much for your post.

    I'm from the UK and can tell a "northern" accent but I struggle to say which city/region it is expect for a few that are distinctive.
    Yorkshire = Sean Bean, Neil Warnock
    Newcastle = Alan Shearer
    Manchester is less distinct for me, I think of Garry Nevile probably.
    Liverpool is unmistakable, think John Lennon Jamie Carragher
    Some parts of London seem to sound almost Australian to me now.
    Even in the South West which I know best the Devon, Sommerset and Gloucester accent sounds the same. Think Stephen Merchant or Russell Howard.

    You know like with people like Adelle who say "sumpfing" instead of something? Is that the result of a specific accent or something else? I've grown up with British TV in Canada and like with Jonathan Ross, I heard he speaks with something called a rhoticism? Like the Rs sound like Ws. Is that a regional accent or something else? THANKS!

    if this is a derby accent has a bit of Nottingham dialect in it. the accent changes a lot depending which part of the county youre from. its one of my favourite counties due to its scenery. im from worksop, notts and we sound nothing like Mansfield, Nottingham etc. its more Yorkshire based as its so close to the border of S, yorks.

    In short, the further north you travel trough Derbyshire, the stronger the accent gets. So if you live North of Derby you will start to hear local accents blending with Yorkshire overtones, specially along & around the Derbys/Notts border, where there are loads of slang words thrown in for good measure. South of Derby much clearer pronounciations.

  • @MisterTMH

    It is interesting that like Cockney London English and working class home county accents , your 'T' sounds are glottal stops, you don't use your tongue against the back of your teeth when you say a word such as ' water' . The Strongest Midlands accent I have heard from a well known person is Rob Halford from the band Judas Priest. His vowels are mangled! .

    I'm from the midlands originally but moved to Cornwall when I was 15/16 in 2005, I sometimes think I've lost my original accent, but when I hear myself on videos the old slight Brummie twang is still there, I have a hybrid accent swapping itself every few words or so.. When I hold face to face conversations I don't hear anything out of the ordinary but I only hear it on videos. I do have some southern in me now as I am 24 so I have lived in the Southwest for nearly 10 years. But I don't think you ever fully lose your accent... I heard accents develop through copying others around you when you first begin to speak and your vocal chords stretch to a certain point and obviously remain there when you reach a certain age. We all have the ability to change our voices and I love to mimic other peoples accents, I think I can do a decent Scouse, Geordie or Scottish impersonation, but accents like Irish and Welsh English I cant do to save my life lol. The English language is amazing! So versatile for such a small island.. Is there any other countries with as many accents as ours?? I've heard a few Spanish accents, but only about 3 or 4.. I was brought to this video by searching for Derbyshire accent, because I couldn't remember it :L. Great vid though! :)

    • @MitchyTheDon
      @MitchyTheDon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did invent a name for my accent because I would confuse myself... "Brum'ish" is my accent, a cross between Birmingham & Cornwall.. My parents are both Brummies and my brother also has a similar accent to me. What a result lol... Anyone else with a hybrid accent??
