    Losing money to milk spots and scratches is just another reason why I don't spend my money on coins and instead prefer the cheapest rounds/bars I can find.

      Generic bars and silver for me too. And if those aren't available, the cheapest sovereign coins (krugerand, Philharmonic, kangaroos) next.

      I bought a couple of generic rounds and I hate them, so never bought generic again. Prefer real coins and willing to pay a bit more for them. Will get more when I sell them anyway.

    Hey Yankee. I'm 22 and just started stacking silver to protect my wealth.
    I'm in the trades and make a lot for my age...at least I did before Brandon and China flu. I went from having enough to pay bills with plenty of spending money (on top of saving money) to having enough to get by with my cash savings increasingly becoming worthless.

      As of now I have 2 type 1 silver eagles and 1 type 2 silver eagle. I also have 2 2 oz Scottsdale stackers.
      I'm about to bite the bullet and buy a tube of type 2 eagles, but I've been eyeing buffalo rounds too. Can get 20 oz of buffalo generic for almost 3 dollars over spot vs virtually 200 bucks more for 20 oz of type 1 eagles. Type 2 I can find for split down the middle.

We also have ABC mint located in my city so a 20 minute drive and I can go into their showroom and purchase bullion direct from them also. Mainly gold from ABC and my bullion coins from the Perth mint. We are lucky in that way. Premiums on eagles here are even crazier then the US though, about $60 Aussie dollars for 1 ASE .

    My local bullion dealer (in Europe). Pays a good fair price for any modern 1 oz bullion. Only insignificant differences between Eagles, Philharmonics, Brittanias, Krugerrands, Kangaroos etc. nothing to really to worry about - at the insignificant digits. However when they're selling there's more of a difference but still nothing to really brag much about except a few very collectible like f.ex. a 1967 Krugerrand when they once in a blue moon have one.

    When Tim says dipping the coins and you can tell. Is that a good or bad thing? A local coinshop sold me a small container of the solution since I noticed some of my family members older coins (2011) have some black spots on them.

      I think in terms of GRADING, its a bad thing. As for your bullion stack, its more of a good thing if they have alot of unwanted tone or spots. Ppl like to buy with their eyes, and seeing shiny silver helps seal the deal.

      @@johnmosby2631 Because Morgan & Peace dollars are the hottest things in numismatics right now, with more newbies getting into them and more demand as a whole. I could make the argument that in a real shtf scenario, only food, water, ammo and tools will have legit value. Those will be at the top of the barter pyramid. Would silver & gold be bartered too? Probably, as they always had value, but with so many counterfeits out there, I think many would be skeptical of them......who knows though?

    • @johnmosby2631
      @johnmosby2631 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thesilveraura2177 Initially that would be true about food, water and ammo...... but there would be a need to return to some form of normalcy, and the use of gold and silver as currency would facilitate that, and people would catch on fast as to what is real, and what is not. I myself, having a small farm would, right from the start, take payment of silver for the food I grow... gold would be for larger valued purchases..... and gems, jewelry and the like would be out of the question.

    New to the stacking world. Haven't made a purchase yet, still learning a lot. Tim said he would pay a little over 'melt' for one of those coins. Melt is the value of let's say melted jewelry, I understand that. What is 'spot' is it the same thing?

    What about graded Modern coins? Curious about what LCS's pay for those. Example NGC MS-70 (No First Release) 2021 Morgan "O" and "CC" privy? I assume it would be case by case since the prices are all over the place depending on Mintage, etc. Just trying to get an idea of the best route to go if I was ever in need of selling all of my coins.

  • @toddhower8215
    @toddhower8215 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    My LCS uses the term "scuffys" to reference blemished coins. Personally I am wondering if I should only buy "scuffys" . When our fiat currency fails we will use items of real value as money (like gold and silver). At that point I suspect that the melt value will dictate the value of the coin. So if I am stacking silver for it's melt value I suspect I am over spending if I pay more for coins in good condition. Additionally, if I start with "scuffys" then I am not concern with how I store and handle my coins as they are already "scuffy". Heck, it might be fun to play checkers with them.

  • @gordonkistler4640
    @gordonkistler4640 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    melt value right now for a silver eagle is $21.90, which is the paper spot price, now I have checked what the major bullion dealers will sell cull and damaged eagles for and the cheapest is $33.00 so the cull eagles are not cheaper!

    Just got a clean out where the walls in the bedroom were lined with dressers COVERED WITH JEWELRY and there was also one of those 3ft tall jewelry chests. looking everywhere I can nothing like that! Trying to find some constitutional very good price but I guess everybody is huh! I have been doing house clean out for a while but I always sold the silver and gold I got and I really kick myself right now! I dealt with the same person for years and he always give me like twenty 30% below spot! Only saying I took care of me and the great deals get me! I guess was taking advantage of me this entire time? Majority of the time it was jewellery many times it's very nice jewellery though! many times I sold him constitutional and I think I sold him a bar once or twice nothing big sterling probably 1oz bars or something like that you know like 1/2 or 2 inches long by 1 inches wide and 1 quarter inch thick. Don't get me wrong I've been doing the pretty long time and no quite a bit as far as real fake what I'm looking at etc but I never really knew supposed to get and it always kind of made sense they would buy it for below spot because how else would you make money. I had also called shopped/ called around to get prices in the very beginning and made sure to sound like I knew what I was talking about and every place was pretty much the same price. So I just picked up the person who was close to me and was very nice and I went there tonight in the beginning I would go to 2 or 3 places with everything to get their prices before I would and it was always pretty much the same I started just going to him every time. I started to save stuff about a year or two ago and it sucks because I ended up bad spark and end up having to get rid of almost all that turn it up being around 2500 and I kept some of the constitutional that I had as well as a few little pieces of silver and gold not much. But with the last one I got and actually just got another small one with 3or4 nice chunks of gold. (Rings) so I was able to start my collection up again is a decent little start. I would like to get some coins/rounds/bars/constitutional/ etc just because it might be a bit harder to use gold/silver for trade etc if really needed because it's jewelry so I don't know if I should sell it and get coins etc or what 2do... either way would like to buy I guess some constitutional because it is cheapest and still very recognisable
