Wear braids but call them their name (cornrows) & don't call them ghetto because when black women wear them they're deemed "unprofessional" or "ratchet" so it's not just a hairstyle its part of our culture.. 1)Do people not know how diverse Africa is? People there have naturally straight, blond, wavy, curly/kinky hair. People are so quick to say oh well black women appropriate blond/straight hair but they don't see that some tribes have that trait.
    2) The problem with the appropriation issue is that the media tends to give credit to people who didn't create it and the fact that they would say it looks unprofessional or "dirty" on someone of color.
    3) Braids aren't a way of hiding natural hair, some people use it as protective styles. It's hard to have to constantly moisturize, comb, style, etc natural hair every day, especially if you don't have time. Also they are used to protect hair from harsh weather.

And the only one who tried to keep the christian fools away, and save our culture! they even made him look like a person he 1000% was not !! But the christians necked him and then they erased as much of our viking culture as they could get to, and they still do it! back then, they even stole our beliefs and made it look like its an Christian thing and part of the christian culture .... christmas (Jól-Jul its means to wait - is from pagan -Viking culture its an party for the light and sun heat that will soon return to us, its a party for drinking and fun and to pray for a lot of things. We call it Solhverv and we party for alot of days, and the christmas tree is a part of this midtpart winter party drinking Jól-Jul bcs its the only tree that is still green in the vintertimes
den 21. december is one of the big days of Jul, the day they say Jesus was born Pfffftttt. the mistletoe is from a viking story about balder he got killed with an arrow made of mistletoe wood. Alot of English words are really viking words, Santa is not who you all think he his. He is really the viking pagan god Odin my father. And he is not red and white, even dovh it is the Danish flag colors, it was the christians who made us change it to what it is to day, his real colors is green or blue if i remember right! ............... but they did all of this BS to get the pagans / vikings in to the i love Jesus wagen!

Its true that braids do not ‘belong’ to the black community as there is evidence of braids being used traditionally in many many other ancient civilisations.
In ancient China, maidens traditionally kept their hair in braids until their fifteenth birthday, when they go through a coming of age ceremony, where they let their hair down to show they are eligible for marriage. While for men, China’s final dynasty gave rise to the Queue braid, a style that involved shaving off most of one’s hair and pulling the rest into a long plait. Non-comformity was considered treason which was punishable by death
The ancient greek/roman women’s hair length traditionally represented your class/wealth. Basically, the higher in the hierarchy you sat, the longer your hair. Women with high wealth would wear their hair in twists, curls and braids to truly showcase the length of their hair.
The celts and vikings also braided their hair for both these reasons. Higher class women would braid their hair and adorn them with straps of leather and ribbons to decorate, while young unmarried women often supported long, loose hair styled in braids.
HOWEVER braids are a huge huge part of black culture and represent the overcoming of the oppression they experience and have experienced in america.
“A sculpture was discovered the ancient Nok civilization of Nigeria circa 500 B.C. which shows a figure adorned with cornrows. In Africa historically braids could be used as a way to express religion, kinship, status, age and ethnicity, among other attributes.
When the people of Africa were brought to the New World as slaves, they were initially confronted with a loss of identify. As they traversed the Middle Passage--or the voyage by ship from Africa to America--their heads were often shaved for sanitary reasons. But their hair grew back, and with it so did the culture.
In slavery, many Africans brought back the braids both as a way to stay connected to their heritage and to assert their independence. The style also fit with the requirement that their hair be neat and tidy while working on plantations.”
This is the reason why braids are so important to the african community especially in america as its a part of their culture that americans TRIED to take away and now all of a sudden they’re using it and trying to take it AGAIN. The argumment isn’t so much about the hairstyle itself, what the hairstyle means and represents is what is so important. This particular reason explains the hostility the black community feel towards american mainstream media using braids, which is totally understandable.

It’s a protective hairstyle and if there is a lice breakout in school it actually protects the hair from contracting lice. Everyone of all races does it since before the 80s. What bothers me the most is that if black person in corporate America tried to wear cornrows to work, their choice of hairstyle would become an "issue" (of professionalism, of cleanliness. of "distraction"...whatever excuse). Cornrows on non-black/white people gets the thumbs up as being "cool", "trendy" (at best); puzzled/shocked stares or comments on how different it looks (at worst)...but are generally left alone. It's a matter of perception. Same goes for large lips, hips, dark (tanned) skin. Natural physical qualities or cultural expressions in black people are seen as a "problem" but celebrated as unique in others. Cultural appropriation is not only the denial or not giving credit to the original source but also the denial of beauty/intelligence/creativity/goodness in non-white communities.

Dreadlocks isn't exclusively black culture and black people cannot claim it. Dreadlocks originated either in India as the Indian diety shiva wears dreadlocks or in Egypt. Even germanic tribes and vikings are said to have worn dreadlocks. So, idk why black people are getting offended about white people wearing dreadlock like I'm against ignorant cultural appropriation but this isn't exclusively black culture. Almost every Hindu monks wears it and as an Indian Hindu I'd not have a problem with someone wearing dreadlocks.

That may be true but braids were started by African and Indians for hair maintenance, eventually it was established as cultural. So when it comes to other demographics they may do “dutch braids” or french braids, but I’m sorry those were appropriate hairstyles from centuries ago. Thicker textured hair are made for braids, while straight hair rarely maintains braids for more than 24h
It’s perfectly fine for everybody to experiment with all hairstyles, but the point is to keep that same energy for white and coloured people. You cant call it ghetto for black people & call it trend setting for white. And don’t take credit for something that is not yours, simple

I think its a shame that someone cant do something from another culture just coz the have a different skin tone (which in itself is kinda racist and exclusive) > Wearing your hair a certain way isnt trying to say "I AM YOU AND I KNOW YOUR STRUGGLE" its just a style. If you want more recognition about things from your own community then make that your mission > start a club > a webpage talking about hair & talk about it honestly and acknowledge all the cultures who have historically worn braids not just black ones. Ive noticed allot of Americans havent left America before and so only seem to know about their own history.

wp do hair styles that aren't for their hair type and wonder why its "so itchy", why "their hair is slipping out" or why their hair breaks off. Thats already a red flag that something's wrong, its not just a hairstyle like a ponytail or something its a protective (cultural) style, and it makes me upset when people only see it as a trend, ESPECIALLY when a white celebrity "names" it something else like they invented cornrows. Even more upsetting when corporate America doesn't tolerate POC with braids, twists or dreads and to this day its seen as "unprofessional" and they are forced to have their hair removed or cut, but when this white woman has cornrows its a hysterical trend she's trying for fun... yeah ok, i wish people would get it.

Black people still get bashed and discriminated for our natural hairstyles while non blacks just wear them for fashionable reasons.

Lol. It amazes me how you say all of this about Kim while at the same time you're wearing a wig or weave of the natural texture and length hair that NATURALLY grows from her scout 😂

Out of her scout or scalp. Start there. Let me school you for your ignorance. Black women dont care about white women wearing braids. Seeing as black women are the ones who they have to go to to get it braided. So stop. However, these styles have been a way of life since birth. But we get told its unprofessional and ghetto. But white girls are put in article ads saying they created this new style and named it something else. Which the name still was taken from black ppl box braids and they called it boxer. Now as far as weave. Many black women and other women including kim k wear weave. However after centuries of being told you hair that grows out of your SCALP is unprofessional ugly and you need to look like the white women. You need to straigten it so its not wild by putting on damaging chemicals like hydrogen chloride that eats through aluminum. Out comes weave. So dont compare systematic opression of black women to theivery of white women.

When culture is everyone's culture no matter what they look like or how they're brought up. If someone somehow stumbled upon a particular aesthetic and embraces it as their own and no one is offended, is a perfect world that does not exist in reality. Everything is judged by eyes of unique experiences.

So question am i cultural appropriating? Even if it’s apart of my culture and I’m half Black.
