- The restoration of my 1974 Toyota FJ45 Landcruiser restomod continues. As this will be a frame off restoration right down to the last nut and bolt, it is time to disassemble the vehicle completely. In this episode I document the disassembly process of my 1974 Toyota FJ45 Landcruiser in preparation for sandblasting.
I uncover some nasty surprises in the form of rust, fortunately nothing that cannot be repaired.

Good job mate, gr8 vid, like what ur doing, it is in a pretty decent state to start with, but still a lot of work, but Im sure it will be beautiful when ur done. I have a hj45 with a nice original motor but a shit load more rust, I’d love to do a full resto on it, but I dont think I am up for going that far now days with what else I have on my plate.
While I do like the idea of a clean stock resto & they’re possibly worth more later, It’s pretty hard to stuff up an old Toyota no matter what u do to them, they all look good! Look forward to bingin ur vids. Cheers

Starting to look interesting Terry, I helped a mate do a ground up rebuild of a 40 shorty years ago. We put a 351 and 4 speed top loader in it, what a weapon. Yours should be even better. Cheers Steve

Deadly serious David. It was 39 that day and the shed is usually 5 or 6 degrees hotter than the outside temp. I actually when down with a little heat stroke that day, it was not pretty. 23 degrees in Gippsland? Sweet sweet cool air. Bring on winter! Lots of hard work involved there Terry but I'm sure it will all be worth it. Feel free to ignore me if you wish but I noticed you were using your angle grinder without its guard. I mention this only because I have personal experience of what can happen if it all goes wrong. I had a cousin who was doing the same thing. Disc shattered and a piece hit him in the neck and he bled out. A friend was also using one, again without a guard, when it bucked and tore through his foot. Naturally he was wearing a pair of great Aussie workboots at the time. Be careful mate. Those things are dangerous at the best of times and without a guard they can be deadly.

Well I'm excited to see how she comes along slowly.... I know Patriots are in the process of restoring one too but this is the one I look forward to seeing once it's finished. I'm sure Justin will be very hands off and get everyone else to do it while it's just you by yourself (for the most part). If it were me, I would try and keep it as original as possible and drop the idea of the 79 scoop on the bonnet... but you're the one restoring her and ultimately it is your choice. Have you seen "Elsie" on Overland Travellers? BTW..... what have you got hiding under that car cover?

I’m sure it will be top shelf, but I prefer backyard guys as that is the stuff that’s within reach of the common humanoid. The Patriot boys or Jas and Simon are in a different league to me I’m afraid.
I hear ya about keeping it close to original. That’s the beauty of these projects, everyone’s taste is a little bit different. Definitely going full restomod on this one mate, but it will be tasteful (in my humble opinion).
I have seen Elsie yes, looks like an excellent tourer. I like that channel but they are really walking a fine line on the sponsorship front. I don’t know why that subject gets me offside so much, but it really does. Maybe I need a therapist🤔😂.
Under the cover is a Candy Apple Red 1957 Chev with a twin turbo V8. Took me 8 years to build that one from the ground up. It’s a weapon😎👍
Can you buy new wiring harnesses Terry?

How long does it take to dismantle the when truck?
They are very easy to pull apart. If you don’t have to deal with a lot of rusty bolts, you can have the whole vehicle disassembled in a day. Cheers 😎👍

It was in fact a brake booster. I’m not sure what the original owner was thinking, but it’s in the bin now👍😎

Hey mate, love to see a detailed build like this! Just out of curiosity, if you don't mind me asking, what did the blast/spray of the cab cost you? Currently in the process of finding a sandblaster for my 45. Cheers
Thanks for watching Ollie, I sincerely appreciate it. I can’t remember the exact cost but it was between $1,500 and $2,000. That was blasting the tub, bonnet, roof, back panel guards and the chassis, and then shooting it all with an epoxy primer. I did not need the doors blasted as mine are toast and will need replacing. The details of the blast mob that did mine are in the video, it’s the same guys that Mr Landcrusier use. Cheers👍😎
Just starting my own build, previous owner has sandblasyed chassis and body and painted. I'm hoping the engine can be saved, would love to keep it original. What was your reason for the engine you chose?
Great to see another 40 coming back to life James, just awesome mate. Wether stock or modified, it’s all cool in my book. I have owned a ZL1 Camaro and a Maloo R8 Ute both with the LSA motor and I loved it. I’ve been a gear head all my life and V8’s are in my blood.
